The whole GM empire can be had for only ~15 billion and still nobody wants anything to do with it.
-
Why is everybody assuming that Ford would follow GM into bankruptcy. Financially they are in better position, they have no brands to get rid off, most of the UAW concessions GM would get if it went into bankruptcy Ford would probably get too. And, what's in it for Ford family since they are large shareholders also?
-
Walmart is doing pretty good in Japan , as well as many other US companies. It's not impossible, you just have to try hard enough.
-
Great post with a nice tad of sarcasm.
We do know its fact that the Japanese Gov't and its people would never allow GM, let alone any other foreign company in. Ford tried building plants there once... Japan said "It's not in the best interest of our people. Sorry, go home Ford."

When was that? -
In the end... GM is worth more than the $12 billion stock price. Period.
[post="44650"]<{POST_SNAPBACK}>[/post]
I know what you are saying, but give me 12 billion and I will prove that everything GM owns can be purchased for 12 billion. -
WRONG! You own a majority of controlling interest but, you DO NOT OWN THE ASSETS! Do not confuse ASSETS with stock... two completely different things...
GM in ASSETS is worth A HELLUVA LOT MORE than 12 billion. 12 billion would earn the right to sell or control those assets but nothing more. Period. GM would still benefit from the sale or your control. Not the owner of 51%, you would only get a dividend check assuming there would be some gain.
[post="44389"]<{POST_SNAPBACK}>[/post]
If 51% allows me to do whatever I want than I own it. Nobody could stop me from selling GMAC, European operations any US brand etc. After each sale I could give it back to the shareholders in the form of one time dividend, that would be 51% for me from each sale. Once you have controling interest there are so many ways to get the money out of the company. -
There ain't that much debt. Guys GM may have some problems but it is worth FAR more than the stock price right now. If GM sold off all of GMAC tomorrow it would fetch a few billion alone. That doesn't include any factories or its investments in other areas such as minority intrest in Hughes, formerly GM Hughes that Direct TV company. If GM is only worth 13 billion then it is a freakin' steal and could be bought up broken apart and sold off in parcels for TONS of money.

All you have to do is buy 51% of the GM shares and you own all of the stuff you mentioned, including worldwide operations. -
-
How is GM worth only $13 Billion when they have that cash? Do we not forget all of GMs operations worldwide? GM is worth WAY more than $13 billion.
[post="44245"]<{POST_SNAPBACK}>[/post]
Number of GM shares X $21=about 13 billion -
My guess is Kerkorian also. If GM stock goes down to $15 I can see him making a big move.

could you imagine if toyota and GM would merge?? talk about unstopable.. other possibilitys would be Honda, or maybe Volkswagen.. none of this will ever happen so we wont have to worry about it..
[post="43798"]<{POST_SNAPBACK}>[/post]
lol, Toyota and GM merging. Toyota is worth over 100 billion, GM is worth 13 billion. Toyota will make about 10 billion this year while GM will probably lose about 5 billion. Toyota can buy GM outright with their 05 profit alone. There is no way anything will happen in between those two but if did happen it sure wouldn't be "merging". -
Why would Kirk allow GM to file a bankruptcy?
-
Why? Ford does it (17%-20% market share) with 7 brands.
Ford
Mazda
Mercury
Volvo
Lincoln
Jaguar
Aston Martin
Ford and Chevy can maintain their volume and Dealer network, but like Ford has done with PAG and already does with Lincoln-Mercury, GM is doing with Buick-Pontiac-GMC... making the brands consolidate under one rooftop. HUMMER & Saturn don't have large dealership networks so their volume can support the delaers but I have no clue about SAAB.
[post="42017"]<{POST_SNAPBACK}>[/post]
Ford has only three true American brands, all other brands are sold all over the world. -
When will the Fusion switch to the new A6 designed by Ford/GM?
-
I would take it with a V6 engine. Why not, it still gets better milage than my 200 hp Escape.
-
This is another example of why GM can't compete. Instead of offering rebates Honda will just cut production while thanks to UAW and job banks GM is forced to produce vehicles and sell them for no profit. You can't compete like that.
-
Isn't the Escape based on the Mazda 626? How long do they intend on keeping that platform around?
[post="31718"]<{POST_SNAPBACK}>[/post]
Next gen. Escape will be on that platform also. -
If GE would do that their stock would go from $33 to $15 over night.
-
BTW, is the laptop mount standard?:D

Acadia. http://www.cheersandgears.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/AH-HA_wink.gif
There's a whole nother reason why it isn't the Envoy. http://www.cheersandgears.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/AH-HA_wink.gif
[post="34937"]<{POST_SNAPBACK}>[/post]
Because there will be no new Envoy? -
So what would be the punishment if GM did over state earnings?
[post="34805"]<{POST_SNAPBACK}>[/post]
Wallstreet would do "the punishment" part. :blink: -
not exactly sure how the government could possibly want to send GM to court... thats like uncle sam putting a knife to his throat.... and i dont mean GM would win the court case, i mean gm would probably lose, or lose enough money that the company would go under...
but... i would prefer that nothing about that company cares about shareholders and shareholders income...
but i think that is all rick wagooner cares about is the shareholders
[post="34606"]<{POST_SNAPBACK}>[/post]
Who should the company care about? The only purpose of any company is to make money for it's shareholders(owners). -
I thought GM was selling at a loss due to the fact that they have American employees living in America at the American standard of living?
[post="32879"]<{POST_SNAPBACK}>[/post]
If Toyota can make cars in the US and make a profit on them that GM should be able to to the same. If they can't then it's their own(and their workers) fault and they should be making something else. This is free economy, nobody has god given right to survive. -
I'll be there. Are they going to show Cadillac BRX this year?
What bankruptcy would mean to GM
