  1. I hope and pray the production is close to this. If it is, this model could singlehandedly save Buick. The Acadia and the Saturn are mere bit players to this star. And I hope they don't do an entry level model with smaller wheels. Leave that to the bit players.
  2. This is a significant car. A milestone.
  3. No, it's a hydrogen vehicle that GM is working on.
  4. GM’s press release: GM REINVENTS THE AUTOMOBILE: CHEVROLET SEQUEL IS A BETTER, CLEANER, PETROLEUM-FREE SOLUTION SAN DIEGO – General Motors today allowed journalists to drive the most technologically advanced automobile ever built – the Chevrolet Sequel, GM’s solution to provide the world with a cleaner, petroleum-free vehicle that is better in nearly every way. “General Motors is proving that advanced technology can remove the automobile from the environmental debate and reduce our dependence on petroleum,” said Larry Burns, GM vice president, research & development and strategic planning. “Chevy Sequel clearly shows that our vision for the future of the automobile is real and sustainable.” Sequel was introduced in 2005 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. It is the first vehicle in the world to successfully integrate a hydrogen fuel cell propulsion system with a broad menu of advanced technologies such as steer-and brake-by-wire controls, wheel hub motors, lithium-ion batteries and a lightweight aluminum structure. It uses clean, renewable hydrogen as a fuel and emits only water vapor. “Sequel fundamentally changes the DNA of today’s automobiles … exchanging an internal combustion engine, petroleum and mechanical systems for fuel cell propulsion, hydrogen and electrical systems,” Burns said. “In Sequel, GM has created a real vehicle that promises to excite customers and lead to long-term, sustainable automotive transportation.” Compared to other fuel cell vehicles, Sequel has an unprecedented range of 300 miles between fill-ups and spirited acceleration, attaining 60 mph in just 10 seconds. Sequel also has all the amenities one would expect in a premium, five-passenger crossover SUV, including impressive styling, a spacious interior and an all-aluminum body and structure designed to meet all applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. It has a low-profile, skateboard-like chassis that houses all of its main propulsion, braking and chassis components. “Sequel is a vehicle that is better in nearly every way – quicker, more sure-footed, easier to handle, easier to build and better looking, while being safe and emitting only water vapor,” said Burns. Other benefits include: - Unequaled control on snow and ice, or uneven terrain - 70-percent more torque for unparalleled acceleration - Shorter braking distances - Ability to “talk” to other vehicles about traffic congestion or road conditions “Four years ago, our chairman and CEO, Rick Wagoner, challenged us to completely rethink the automobile,” Burns said. “With the Chevy Sequel, we have now met Rick’s challenge by reinventing the automobile and making it real. We’ve proven a new DNA for vehicles that is viable for the future.” Specifications: GM Chevrolet Sequel General Vehicle type: all-wheel-drive crossover vehicle with fuel cell and by-wire technology Chassis: aluminum substructures Body: aluminum body / frame integral structure with aluminum panels and aluminum closures Seating capacity: 4 or 5 Dimensions Wheelbase (in / mm): 119.7 / 3040 Length (in / mm): 196.6 / 4994 Width (in / mm): 77.4 / 1966 Height (in / mm): 66.8 / 1697 Curb weight (lb / kg): 4774 / 2170 Fuel storage system Type: 3 carbon composite high-pressure tanks for hydrogen mounted in the sandwich chassis Service pressure (psi / bar): 10,000 / 700 Storage capacity (lb / kg): 17.6 / 8 Fuel cell power module Power (kW): 73 Battery system Type: lithium-ion high-power battery pack Power (kW): 65 Electric traction system Front system: 3-phase asynchronous electric motor with integrated power electronics and planetary gear Power (kW): 65 Torque (lb-ft / Nm): 1740 / 2350 Gear ratio: 10.95:1 Rear system: 2 3-phase permanent magnet synchronous, direct drive, electric wheel hub motors Power (kW): 2 times 25 Torque (lb-ft / Nm): 2 times 590/800 Gear ratio: 1:1 Total traction power (kW): 115 Total torque at wheels (lb-ft/Nm): 2920 / 3950 Performance Acceleration 0-60 mph (sec): < 10 Top speed (mph / km/h): 90 / 145 Operating range (miles / km): 300 / 480
  5. In 1893 Olds Motor Works sold a steam powered car to someone in India.
  6. All good points. But I don't think Fiero is as damaged as one thinks. I don't see that name in a negative way at all. And I dare say the public won't either. I believe we will see a Firebird and not a GTO. You heard it here, so remember when it all unfolds. I believe GM fans are in for a surprise. Just me thinking out loud. Just mulling over things.
  7. I have no proof of anything. But I'll bet we'll see at least a Firebird and maybe even a Fiero.....not the like the original...but the name used on another car. The Solstice coupe for instance?
  8. Regarding the uneven alignment of the dash and door wood trim....I just can't believe that GM/Saturn is not sweating the details like this! I noticed it too in the earlier photos. Something so obvious can turn people off....it just drives me crazy that GM still let's things like this slide. And why they are using this crap in Saturn interiors is beyond me. Youthful people hate the stuff.
  9. Under the Big Tops Global auto show scene in transition By BOB GRITZINGER AutoWeek | Published 09/08/06, 10:52 am et When auto show season kicks off in earnest at the biennial enthusiasts’ lovefest in Paris later this month, news about the auto shows themselves might steal some headlines from the car premieres. Changes in the Los Angeles show epitomize what is diff¬erent on the global auto show scene: Los Angeles gets official “international” designation and is moving to a new early-December slot for this year, and early November for 2007 and beyond on the annual calendar. For the past 25 years, when the L.A. show convened at New Year’s or immediately thereafter, it struggled for the spotlight against Detroit’s North American International Auto Show. NAIAS typically draws media beginning in early January and opens to the public by mid-January. Now out from under the huge shadow cast by Detroit, L.A.’s second show of 2006—set for Dec. 1-10 (the first was at its usual time in January this year)—is drawing a strong response from automakers. At least 12 companies plan worldwide premieres at Los Angeles, including Nissan, which is hosting its first global debut at the Southern California show since 1999. L.A.’s stature was further enhanced when it received international sanctioning by the Organisation Internationale des Constructeurs d’Automobiles. OICA is a Paris-based international automotive trade association that coordinates international auto shows, among other functions. OICA also added Chicago and New York to the list of internationally sanctioned shows in the States, joining Detroit. This year Los Angeles shares the international designation with Detroit; Chicago will be designated along with Detroit in 2007; New York becomes the international pairing with Detroit in 2008. The cycle then repeats, beginning with Los Angeles in 2009. OICA has yet to take notice, but the rest of the world is starting to pay considerable attention to auto shows in China. Meanwhile the Tokyo show is changing format. The show had alternated between cars and trucks one year and commercial vehicles and motor¬cycles the next year. Now the show will include cars, trucks, commercial vehicles and motorcycles in one show every other year, starting in fall 2007. The show also is moving to a central Tokyo convention center. Finally, by the time the next British Motor Show debuts in mid-2008, it reportedly will be renamed the London Motor Show. The change is an attempt to raise the show’s international profile by using a city name in the title, like the other biggies in Geneva, Paris, Tokyo and Frankfurt. Detroit, one of the biggest shows on the planet, is staying with the NAIAS moniker, however. Major auto show dates for 2006-07 2006 Paris - Sept. 30-Oct. 15 Beijing - Nov. 21-27 Los Angeles - Dec. 1-10 2007 Detroit - Jan. 13-21 Chicago - Feb. 9-18 Geneva - March 8-18 New York - April 6-15 Shanghai - April 24-28 Frankfurt - Sept. 13-23 Tokyo - Oct. 26-Nov. 11 Los Angeles - Nov. 16-27
  10. The Great Wall Motor Company's Hover utility vehicle of China shipped it's first 500 units to Italy. First Europe and then N. Amercia. This would look good as the next Saturn Vue.
  11. On August 08, 2006, GM trademarked the name '8 Speed'.
  12. I don't typically like small cars because they are often unattractive...but this has to be one of the nicest looking tiny cars I've ever seen. The Daihatsu D-Compact X-Over debuting at the Paris Auto Show this month.
  13. GM reregistered the name 'Fiero' in June/06. On October 06/06, the name 'Firebird' will be 'published for opposition'. This is a required step in the trademark process. This republication suggests that the name may be used again.
  14. I second your emotion. There's definitely a revival of beautiful, gorgeous design in French cars. Here's the Renault Nepta to be shown at the 2006 Paris Auto Show. Interesting details. Take note to the innovative door/hood opening.
  15. I like what Citroen is doing these days. Dramatically beautiful concept. C-Matisse.
  16. I sometimes think this car and others are underappreciated...beautiful lines on the Monte. There's almost a fashionable disdain for '70s cars for some reason.

This is a fantastic looking car. It has a broadshouldered look, a 3/4 Charger.

  19. The ads are fun...funny how the '80s is becoming almost vintage. I too don't understand the S-10 embarassment. Perfectly good ad.
  20. I have heard of a few disgruntled customers of the Dodge Ram. Locally too. What's up with this truck? Fantastic looks, but seems to have problems. http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/artic...388/1148/AUTO01 Wednesday, August 30, 2006 Lemon delivery for Dr. Z Josee Valcourt / The Detroit News Forget about AskDr.Z.com. William Bailey took his beef with Chrysler straight to the automaker when he drove his 2005 Dodge Ram 3500 pickup truck from his Blountsville, Ala., home to DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group's headquarters in Auburn Hills. Bailey mounted a "Dodge Lemon Made" sign on his truck -- which he uses for work to haul trailers -- and circled on public roads near the automaker's building because he said the company sold him a lemon. Bailey said his fan clutch exploded on April 11 and that despite a 100,000 miles bumper-to- bumper warranty that expired last month, he's paid several thousands in repair.
