  1. Alfa has a real nice 2.4L 5 cly TDI--200hp. I''d love that in a Cobalt. But this new 2.9L would be very nice for a select few GM vehicles. Although I have to say to all the people who voted that they want it at $1000 premium or the same as a gas engine----your nuts! There is no free lunch here. You have to alway pay a premium up front for diesel. They cost more to design and manufacture.
  2. Some items may been discussed other posts...however... 1. Ponitac going ALL RWD? I saw this in Motor Trend awhile ago--but they are one of the wrost magazines for accurately predicting anything. 2. Solstice coupe...whare does that stand? 3. 4 door Kappa? 4. Why did the G5 coupe NOT get the 2.0 S/C engine? 5. Does Gm want to turn Pontiac into a lower volume, higher profit line of cars?
  3. Heres my short take on them: 1. I mosy see City of Calgary using them for fleet vehicles. 2. Looks are not good. They should have used a TrailBlazer/Envoy front end. 3. Size---I thought these trucks were going to move up to mid sized, close to the Dakota. 4. More power is always good--and with the new uprated engines they are prety mcug spot on. Still a 4.8L would not hurt--along with increasd towing capacity. 5. 15: wheels on the 4X4? No one else uss such tiny rims---17's are pretty much standard these days. Not to mention the rims are fugly These trucks seem half baked to me--a typical 90's GM effort--not something out of this century. Now I have never driven one--just going what by what I see and the spec sheet.
  4. wow--that loos sharp in the blue. Can't wait too seee it in person. Loosk far too sporty to have only 140hp though
  5. Wow----I am gonna have to get me one of these! Powerplants are very good but I would expect that in 09 the 6 speed auto to be paired with the 3.6L and the 6.2L VVT to be in the mix. A direct injected 3.6L would be nice too---and a manula with that. Not that I am complaingin, this car rocks!!
  6. your a bit too eager! Give it a few weeks at minimum. Hasn't even been revealed at the show yet
  7. I cannot comment on the autimatic Civic--I have never seen one tested. Most automatic 4cly with such low/small displacements and automatics are just dogs. The Astra weighs a bit less then a Delta--but the big 2.2L has a lot more torque. Trust me it'll be very slow with the auto
  8. Much better then the odd looking ION---okay the 2dr in RL is good but the rest were fugly. But the sole engine is disapointing. Accleration will be at the back of the class---and down right horrible with an automatic. Fine for base engine--probably gets great mileage. Becasue of high gas prices in Europe buyers often pt up with gutless cars....won't fly here. This is need to be addressed ASAP--half way though model year or next year! The 2.4L needs to be an option--and then whatever 2.0 Turbo GM can get in there.
  9. got any source on that? Maybe then I get get a 6 speed auto/turbo 4 dr!!
  10. wonder if the Coblat is getting a mid life cycle refresh...?
  11. go to my review here--no one bothered to comment At least my pics are good...right?? http://www.cheersandgears.com/forums/index...showtopic=14964
  12. hope so---I wish I lived at sea-level though! The 5000ft DA sucks!
  13. I traded my 06 2.4L SS (5 speed) in for an 07 4 door 2.4L SS--automatic. The "free" XM (for 3 months is cool) and so is the remote start. Plus I like the colour. Tinted windows and 3m rock guard for the nose. The dealer won't tind drivers and front passneger door--have to get tha done at a tint shop. I might get a GMPP intake later. I was getting tired of the rush hour commute in the 5 speed and with a kid now--4 doors seemed right. I wish they made a S/C 4 door auto! Or maybe the upcoming Turbo with 6 speed auto..... Car handles great--but def slower then the 5 speed--oh well--I am sure it can beat a Mazda 3/Ralliart ect (its automatic equalivalints) Taking it real easy for the first 1600kms (1000 miles) anyhow.
  14. I have my doubts as to weather it can do 500 hp with 2V heads.... BUt whatever---it'll be an increase over 425hp 6.1L. These hp numbers are geting crazy! Of course the cars are HEAVY--so its all realtive.
  15. 70 442 And an Intrigue 3.5L---I dove the Century, the Impala and the Grand Prix. The Intruige was best by far
  16. wow--looks great! Is that granite blue? what axle ratio?
  17. This will have to do--go here for pics http://www.cobaltss.net/forums/showthread.php?t=43803 and http://www.cheersandgears.com/forums/index...post&id=534
  18. Besides getting to drive this American icon, what else can you add to the experince? How about driving it in Hawaii! :AH-HA_wink: I was just on holidays in Oahu and rented this car from Ferrari Rentals (they rent a mix of high end cars at premium prices). I have never driven a Corvette and it has always been a dream of mie to do so. As an aside--I have only ridden in a Corvette once--with 3 other people--some 70's model--which I hate anyhow. So the price was high but since this is not an everyday oppourtunity I was happy to pay the high price. Hey--it's fun to look rich One of the first things I noticed was how stiff the car was. No cowl shake, no rattles and it felt as strong as a bridge. The steering is pretty heavy but very resposive and direct. My Corvette had the base suspension but handled pretty dam good. In fact I would not want any stiffer--we did go over a few bumps and it was borderline. I liked the interior--not as good as a GTO but nothing to be ashamed of. The HUD is simply awesome! I wish my Cobalt ad this. You can keep your eyes on the road and watch the guages at the same time. I did not think much of the stereo but in a convertible I guess thats the nature of them to not be the best. The 6.0 400hp LS2 is a teriffic base engine. Its very torquey and it likes to rev. Efficeint too---i saw 30 or better on the DIC--on the highway. For being stock the exhaust has a nice growl to it as well. this is the 2nd fastest car that I have ever driven. Nice to have that power there--just on stand by--if you need it. The 6 speed auto is seamless-GM builds great transmissions, so this comes as no surprise. I enjoyed using the paddleshifter most of the time. It was easy to use and works very well. Again,I wish my Cobalt had this feature. While not the fastest power top it does work very well. I did think the trunk cover was cheap--you really had to slam it shut. Speaking of trunks--capacity was very good. To sum up--I really enjoyed my 2 days with the Corvette. I drove that more then the other 2 rental we had. If I could I would go down amd order one today. Foregoing even a Z06--something about the top down expereince that just can't be beaten. Now if I could post pics....notv sure what I am doing wrong, done this before
  19. thats just bad info you have. The 2.0 LNF Turbo is brand new and will be around for many more years. The 2.0 LSJ supercharged, in the Cobalt SS ill be going the way of the doe-doe.
  20. Although I am glad Ford finally updated the Focus---looks are not as good, interior sucks. Same, lame engine? With a reduced axle ratio? 3.73 to 3.34--yeah this is be easy picking for my NA Cobalt SS LOL
  21. I love the Lambadas. Each version looks great and distinctive. My only concern is the weight. Like many other new GM models--these are getting porky. And as good as the 3.6L is--for the weight--it needs some more power. Base 3.6 275hp, optinal 305hp DI V6, optional V8--say 5.3L ? Or just a HF bigger then 3.6L
  22. Be nice if they made a 4 dr Turbo.....and an automatic one too. While there at it...6 speed auto and direct injection for the 2.4L I hope it looks nice. I find that GM usually screws up the mid cylce refresh of their vehicles.
  23. I just came back from holidays in Hawaii. While there I had 3 rentals cars, this one being a V6 Mustang convertible. Over the years I have had my lisence (16.5 years), I have driven and rented many cars. I have never been so disapointed with any car I was with this piece of garbage! Hey GM! You have a real low target to aim for--a V6 Camaro can easily be better then this car. Closing my eyes I felt I was driving a 1980 Mustang. The steering was vauge and lifeless, the brakes spongy, the handling was a joke!! What other cars come with 65 series tires??? Sure some cars have 185/65 but 225/65??? Thats from the 80's!! Powertrian: It sounds like a Deer tractor---as asmatic one at that. From start up to idle to acclearion this engine sounds very bad. Exhaust sound is plain nasty. on the plus side, it does provide pretty decent pick up and strong midrange but did not spin the tires off the line (yes the traction control was off) Ford never should have put this horrible engine in the Mustang. I would accept a slightly slower car if if the egine had an ounce of refinement. NOTE TO FORD: Drop the 3.5L DOHC in ASAP. The 5 speed auto was prety good. It kept the engine in its powerband. Interior: Well retro is not my stlye--so in my eyes, it was...well...an eyesore. Guages are pretty low and not the easist to read at a fast glance. The rest oif the interior seemed very cheap to me. The shifter loooks and feels like a toy--what a joke. Trunk space was good and top operation was fast and easy to operate. I know this is a V6 model--but a decent engine and some handling ability should be mandatory. The whole car felt half baked. I would never recomennd that anyone buy this car. In the future I will rent a GT---I think I could like that. PROS: trunk space was good. With some nice rims and tires they look okay. Coupe looks better IMO. Good acceleration Cons: everyting else sucked
  24. Who would have ever thought that a Chevy gets a car with only DOHC 4 valve per cylinder enignes? Nitpicking, an LTZ should only be 3.6L and the 2.4L should ge the 6 speed auto on LS/LT but thats abuot the only complaint I can come up with. Having driven an Aura XR---I can say taht the 3.6L/ 6 speed is a sweet combination. Time for GM to start dumping the OHV V6 engines for everyting else.
