  1. The irony is that DOHC engines are far older than the OHV in-block cam. Before GM's OHV design, most engines in the US market used some type of side valve desig—flat-head, T-head, F-head, L-head etc. The OHV pushrod design gave the compactness, low-cost and the preferred OHV combustion-chamber design all in one package. Given the operating efficiencies of 2V engines at low speeds the OHV in-block cam continues to survive. It could that what the 3.6 needs to improve efficiency is a swirl-control valve commonly used in diesel engines and mercedes' 3.5 L, or the port deactivation system as used by GM in the family 1 and family 0 4-cylinders, and by PSA-Ford in the 2.7 V6 diesel, which has a similar function.
  2. The 3.9 doesn't have dual in block cams. You must be thinking of the 4.3 L XV8
  3. One problem is that that different media around the world have a vastly different idea of what 12.01 am EST means. Given the westerly location of the US, that means pics will be released a day early by uncaring media. You have to question however, what idiot gives advanced material to an obscure Spanish website.
  4. The GS has always been a niche player and the LS has always been far better value. Unlike the LS the GS is just as expensive as its german rivals, and is now smaller than the A6, 5-Series etc.. For a long time the GS 430 has been more expensive than an LS 430. It doesn't take much to price a GS 430 or GS 450h above the new LS 460, and you don't get the space, power or other luxuries. Notice also — Toyota's trucks are all crashing, still, but sales were too low beforehand to have much effect. SUV numbers only look good because the old RAV4 was selling so poorly against much bigger rivals and the FJ Cruiser didn't even exist. Also plummeting — the entire Scion lineup, showing it's age perhaps.
  5. Why don't you just go to thw weick site, autodeadline.com?

  7. Wieck is down, not just GM. That means no Ford, Toyota, Honda or Mitsubishi pics either. too many people hotlinking to the large images instead of downloading them as they're supposed to.
  8. Notice how the hood, headlights and bumper-grille assembly don't match up.
  9. No, it would be a 2.0 L Turbo 4-cylinder.
  10. Based on the preliminary figures, it actually has significantly less room than the current Malibu sedan, and still isn't wide enough for the segment. Epsilon II cannot come soon enough

  14. No, the Daewoo will be an Epsilon II model similar or identical to the next Malibu. Who's to say this car isn't longer than the Commodore. It's not as large as the Caprice, but the C-pillar is vertical for extra headroom. Note to amateur photographers—if you can get this close to a prototype (interior shots were taken), especially parked next to a production model, measure it somewhow, even if you just eyeball it.

  16. This is word association, not sense association. You don't have to know what it means. Transmogrify is an old made-up nonsense word, but the ending is taken from latin -ficare "make", so the pres. part. is transmogrificant, the vbl noun is transmogrification or transmogrifying, the agent is a transmogrificant (from the pres. part.), a transmogrificator or transmogrifier. Making an image of transmogrification would be transmogrigraphy.
  17. Previous thread This is the same car, just one of the photos published by Wheels. The DetNews photo is probably the worst, since you can't see the changes to the rear door and addition of a d-pillar very well (look very closely and you'll see a 6-light design like the larger Caprice), nor can you see the new trunklid and rear lights (again, more like the Caprice). Look carefully and you can see a new headlight design, and a new fender design closer to that of the Caprice than the Commodore. In the Commodre the character line ends behind the front fender, in the Caprice and this prototype it extends over the fender to the front lights.
  18. No, it's not, it's a reader photo of a new prototype first published by Wheels magazine in Australia. The glasshouse and sheetmetal differs significantly from the VE, but as I said in the earlier thread, it looks less like a Pontiac than the VE Commodore. This car resembles more a swb Caprice.

  20. I was thinking of this one: http://www.cheersandgears.com/forums/index...showtopic=14031
  21. It may be warm, but it's not unprecedented. Here in Australia when it should be summer there has been snow in places that don't get snow in winter, and much cooler temperatures everywhere else.
  22. The VE test car was parked on the right hand side of this car (your left). This car has different sheetmetal, different greenhouse etc.
  23. Didn't we have this weeks ago?
