So would this be a conversion/coachbuilder or would GM be offering a true replacement for the Astrovan? 189615[/snapback] It's a conversion body based on the two-door chassis-cab, built by a third party but orderable through GM Fleet, something like a panel-van. You can find it in the 2007 MY Fleet guide.
  2. Oh yes. The 6.0 L V12 Biturbo M275 AMG produces 604 hp and 738 lb-ft. Peugeot's 5.5 L V12 diesel produces 690 hp and 885 lb-ft, but that is primarily a racing engine itended to beat Audi's 641 hp, 810 lb-ft racing V12.

  10. I have to disagree with JamesB. Despite our own interests far more Aussies knew about and respected Steve Irwin than they did Peter Brock, even if they only knew him as the "Croc Hunter". Irwin was also a more recent celebrity than Brockie and thus more in the public mind. Brock will be a great loss to the motoring community and Holden in particular, but will not be mourned as widely as Irwin. I doubt a state funeral will even be offered. On another note this will be another, potentially devastating, blow road racing after the Targa Tasmania accident when a car plowed into spectators.

  15. As a concept it is probably not based on any platform. They don't have to meet any regulations and are usually only one-offs, often assembled by outside contractors. Something put together just for this project or a handy available chassis will do. This is merely a styling exercise which may hint at a future compact Chevy being developed by Daewoo on the new European Global Compact Architecture (also known as Global Delta). It helps if you consider Delta not as an solid structural design but rather a set of objectives or design parameters, such as "transverse 4-cylinder powertrain, compact footprint etc.), for which the European Architecture Development Team will provide a specification and common structural components; from which Daewoo (and later Opel) will then develop vehicles around.
  16. That depends on whether there will be a three-door Chevrolet hatch elsewhere. While Opel (and thus potentially Saturn) has the Astra GTC, the 3-door Optra has not eventuated, despite being shown to Korean media; and as you can see this concept is another 5-door like the Optra5/Reno.
  17. It's just the big wheels. Allowing 4" for the massive front wing it would be about the same size as the 5-door Astra or European Civic. Larger 5-doors tend to be fastbacks.
  18. It's a little smaller than the Jeep Compass, a little lower than a Hyundai Tucson, and a lot lower than the Element. Most compact crossovers are either much smaller (Ford Ecosport etc.) or bigger. Since the Focus in question a fastback rather than a 2-box hatch the Qashqai is closer in size to small compact wagons such as the Vibe and Spectra5 than a regular 5-door compact.
  19. Errr, this is the WTCC race version. Expect to delete the agressive wings, ground effects and extended arches from the production Global Compact. The ready-to-drive concept car was developed by a GM team around the globe. It is the optical vision of a new touring car generation and takes the Chevrolet body language to the extreme. It's equipped with a 190 PS common rail turbodiesel engine, based on the 2.0 litre unit that will debut in the Captiva SUV and Lacetti models next year, and unlike most motor show styling studies is a fully-working vehicle, with performance to rival high performance petrol cars. The concept exists as a vision of a new generation of World Touring Cars, and follows on from the success of Chevrolet's WTCC race team, which took its second victory of the season earlier this month at Brno in the Czech Republic. British driver Rob Huff successfully held off championship leader Andy Priaulx in his BMW, and set the fastest lap time, to lead from the first lap.
  21. More powerful yes, but ethanol doesn't have the energy-density of gasoline, so mileage and range will never be as good. However ethanol and bio-diesel are 100% guaranteed to replace gasoline at some point in the future, especially for people who like the sound and performance characteristics of an ICE, no matter how readily available fuel cells and hydrogen become.
