Replacement for Aston Martin Rapide Will Take Form In Two Models

Two models to replace one? That's what Aston Martin has planned for the Rapide.

Aston Martin has an interesting plan when it comes time to replace the somewhat old Rapide. Car and Driver spoke with Aston Martin CEO Andy Palmer who said they have two new models that will take the place of the Rapide; a new crossover and a sport sedan wearing the Lagonda nameplate.

“However, we have a [further] business plan, and within that there’s three legs to the strategy. First is replacing the entire sports-car range; second is the DBX, and that appeals to a different set of audiences; and the third is the sports sedan, which will carry that beautiful badge,” (Lagonda label pin on his coat) said Palmer.

First off is a production version of the DBX concept shown at the Geneva Motor Show. Whereas the concept looked like a V8/V12 Vantage with an increase in ride height and electric powertrain, the production model will go with a five-door style and come powered with either a gas and plug-in hybrid powertrain.

As for the new sport sedan wearing the Lagonda name, this isn't the current sedan known as the Lagonda Taraf that will be sold in Middle East and a few other markets. Instead it will be an all new model.

    • Things getting more nuts.  I would rather buy Chinese than American, the Chinese are not bombing elementary schools and hospitals.  I look for GM and Ford to become niche players, if they exist at all in 15-20 years is in question.  I doubt any rational lever exists to stop the stupidity.

    • Such a sad state of the Auto Industry as the rest of the world is getting new models, from EVs to Hybrids to discuss. America is now a Dictatorship Fascist state that we have just about nothing new. So Sad!!!
    • Have to say that I have been thinking about what I want to replace the Escalade ESV with and of course at the top of my list is the Genesis GV90. Yet with Incompetence in DC, Genesis, Hyundai, Kia have delayed indefinitely all their new EVs while releasing them into the world globally where they are a huge success. The Genesis GV90 is delayed again for the world as they are now talking about early 2027 for production.   I have also thought that maybe a Scout would be nice, but until recently they have not confirmed if they are just using Rivian 400V system or truly going 800V. Today I checked and saw that three weeks ago they updated to confirm 800V system. Sadly they have been mum on if they will support AA / CP which Genesis will support. Figure I might just be in my Escalade another couple of years. Good thing it is in such good shape. This cracks me up that Pennsylvania never checked if their software would have a problem reading the new plates. How Funny!!! New license plate design has toll cameras malfunctioning across this state
