    Ford today released a fix for the recently recalled 2013 Escape and 2013 Fusion with the 1.6 liter Ecoboost engine. The recall involves a reprogramming of the computer to address a coolant pressure loss under certain driving conditions. Only VINs with the eighth character “X” on Escapes or “R” on Fusions are affected.

    Ford Produces Fix in Voluntary Safety Recall of 2013 Escapes, 2013 Fusions with 1.6-liter Engines

    • Ford today announced a corrective action to address potential engine overheating that could result in engine fires in 2013 Ford Escape SE and SEL models with the 1.6-liter engine and 2013 Ford Fusion SE and SEL models with the 1.6-liter engine

    • Ford will make updates to the cooling system software to better manage engine temperatures during a unique overheating condition. Original cooling system design was not able to address a loss of coolant system pressure under certain operating conditions. The new software will resolve this issue

    • Escapes equipped with the 2.0-liter and 2.5-liter engines are unaffected as are Fusions equipped with 2.5-liter and hybrid engines

    • Ford remains absolutely committed to continuously improving and providing the highest-quality vehicles to its customers. When a potential issue is identified, Ford acts promptly on behalf of customers

    DEARBORN, Mich., Dec. 10, 2012 – Ford Motor Company today announced a corrective action to address potential engine overheating that could result in engine fires in SE and SEL models of the 2013 Ford Escape and Ford Fusion models equipped with 1.6-liter engines. The vehicles were subjects of a voluntary safety recall announced Nov. 30.

    An intensive, cross-discipline engineering team at Ford worked to identify the root cause of the extreme engine overheating condition.

    To fix the condition, Ford will make software updates to the cooling system of the 1.6-liter engine available in the SE and SEL models of the 2013 Ford Escape and 2013 Ford Fusion. The software updates will better manage engine temperatures during a unique overheating condition that could occur under unique operating conditions. The original cooling system design was not able to address a loss of coolant system pressure under certain operating conditions, which could lead to a vehicle fire while the engine was running.

    “We remain absolutely committed to continuously improving and providing the highest-quality vehicles to our customers. When a potential issue is identified, we act promptly on behalf of our customers, as we did this time,” said Raj Nair, Ford Group Vice President, Global Product Development.

    Ford is now working to deliver the software and repair procedure to its dealers. The company will begin notifying customers so they can schedule service appointments with dealers.

    Beginning early next week, customers will be able to get the software update at their dealer. The time needed for this repair is less than one-half day. However, due to service

    scheduling requirements, a dealer may need the vehicle for a longer period of time.

    Until the cooling software is updated, customers driving 2013 Escape vehicles equipped with the 1.6-liter engine and 2013 Fusion models equipped with the 1.6-liter engine have been advised to contact their dealer to arrange for alternative transportation at no charge.

    Some drivers who have experienced high engine temperatures followed by engine fires have said that their clusters have shown the message “Engine Power Reduced to Lower Temps” or “Engine over temp, stop safely.” Some also indicated that their instrument clusters sounded a chime and illuminated a red light.

    Ford advised drivers who see any of these indications to safely pull off the road as soon as possible, turn off the engine and exit the vehicle.

    Notifications have been sent to customers affected by the recall. Customers also can see if they are affected by the recall by:

    • Checking their 17-digit VIN, located on a label on the driver door opening, at the base of the windshield on the driver’s side of their vehicle, or on their vehicle registration. In vehicles with 1.6-liter engines, the eighth character will be “X” on Escapes or “R” on Fusions;
    • Logging onto Ford.com, click “View Notices and Recalls” in the “Support” tab and inputting their VIN;
    • Calling 866-436-7332 in the U.S. or 888-222-7814 in Canada; or
    • Contacting a Ford dealer

    2013 Escapes equipped with 2.0-liter and the 2.5-liter engines are unaffected. 2013 Fusions equipped with the 2.5-liter and hybrid engines are also unaffected – as are all Titanium models.

    • I get they are using the Tesla idea to build 3 modules then snap them together, saving time and saving on wiring harnesses, etc.  But I don't think they are really coming out with any super affordable vehicle, they say $30k, but the F150 Lightning was going to be $39,995 and it ended up like $60k.   The ICE Equinox for the first half of the year sold 130,000 and the EV sold 28,000.  Losing that $7500 credit for sure will hurt sales and that EV will be a weak seller for a mass market vehicle. Ford Ranger sold 33,000, Maverick sold 86,000 for the first half of the year.   Even if this new EV truck sells half as many it is 120,000 sales, most of which will probably just be stolen internally off other Fords.  And the Escape starts at $30k and sells 130k units now, they are just swapping product. What the Ranchero won't have is Rav4 build quality, Rav4 reliability or Rav4 resale value.  Ford just announced their 96th recall of the year, there is zero quality control at this company.  My work vehicle has 3 recalls on it right now, the left front door has needed replaced for a year because the door checks are faulty and pull out the spot welds, but they don't have doors to replace it. Same thing for a coworker of mine. What the universal EV may do however is give a 2nd life to an electric Escape and Explorer and the Mustang can move to this platform because there is no way the bean counters will be able to justify spending money on a new Mustang.
    • You are right.  Not every American is disgusting and ugly.  I am wrong to paint everybody in that negative light.  There are many nice Americans that didnt vote for this shyte.  And Ill gladly accept your invite. As I hope you'll accept mine to come to Montreal and Ill show you my city.  For real.   But I will decline that invite temporarily.   51st state rhetoric and unwarranted tariffs on my country warrant me to think about my country first.  Red States follow Trump's word and most folk down in those states now view Canada as an enemy because education is sorely lacking...   Trump has hidden ideas for those tariffs on certain Canadian products.  Lumber, steel and aluminium mostly.  And he has convinced many in those fields that Canada truly is an enemy.  I do not respect that. Also...yes, the internet is full of mis and dis information, but I can filter our the nonsense.  But when I see California and New York sponsored (Blue States) travel ads on MY Canadian television stations telling me they miss my tourism...that only infuriates me more...    Why? Well...I know that my fellow Canadians have mostly stopped from travelling to the States, and all that tells me about those adverts is that California and New York only miss my tourist DOLLARS.  Not that they give a shyte about the welfare about MY country.  Do NOT spend advertising dollars begging me to come back for my money, spend that money FIGHTING Trump and his regime...  THIS is what Canadian tax payer money bought for advertising in those Red States   THIS is what Canada as a country and as a people communicate to try and educate...       Keep your phoquen golf balls...   Apologize because your leader is a tyrant and you dont agree with the 51st state rhetoric. But do not tell me that.  Fight in the streets that you do not agree with the 51st State rhetoric.. .  Promise to fight for your freedoms. Dont beg me to come because you miss my tourist dollars and you will go broke.  Boo freakin hoo.    Do not tell me that Hollywood wouldnt be Hollywood without Canada.  Shout that out loud so TRUMP... could hear you.   SHOW it by fighting BACK at Trump!!!     Again...dont tell me that Trump is trying to make enemies out of you and me. I know that. I aint stupid. But YOU fight back in your OWN country.  California has got 2000 miles of beach coasts.  Well...so does Canada. More actually. And its about time that we...CANADIANS, discover our OWN country. Time for us to love OUR country. You can start loving your own country. Start by respecting each other rather than the almighty dollar... So yeah...Im sure not all Americans are ugly.   But American culture has turned to shyte. To which I say no thanks to!!!     PS:  Huge contrast on how each culture has decided to approach this.  Its like our country is a joke to you folk.  Its like you folk dont even respect your own society so why the phoque am I asking you to have empathy for my country when you guys dont even care for your own???!!!      PSS: Yeah...I know there are public outcries.  The news do not cover that.  Make it so that the news DOES cover it...    Your outcries do not go far enough...  Your society is still to selfish...
    • Both Parties have FAILED America. They both agreed to taxation on Social Security in the 70's when it had none and was solvent. They both agreed to allow borrowing against the SS money to give to the 1% of Defense spending. Yet the BIGGEST FAILURE of both parties is the decades they had to clearly put in place a better way forward for immigrants to come to this country, work hard, pay taxes and get to being an honest citizen. End result is that both Republicans and Democrats have failed this country in more ways than one and should have to pay for their wasteful ways. The American auto industry is at a cross roads that will determine if they live to 2030 or not.
    • While the News can be deceptive on what is going on as they take advantage of the 73 IQ Idiot47, your right not everywhere is totally nuts and I am happy that we still have places that embrace the multi-cultural world we are in. Will be interesting as ICE has stated they will be coming to Washington this weekend and will spend the next few months getting rid of criminals. So far I have only seen a ton of hard workiing people, going to be interesting to see how people respond to this. This was back in June and ICE quickly left the state, so be interesting to see what the news covers this coming rest of August here: Anti-ICE protesters clash with SPD at Federal Building | FOX 13 Seattle
    • Come down to middle of America. I'll buy you a beer here and we can find a classic car show to roam around. It isn't as ugly as you portray it to be. I'm sure it's also beautiful in the PNW where @G. David Felt lives and the Pittsburgh area where OUR leader resides, @Drew Dowdell. There are so many good people from these parts. Don't let the internet make you think everybody everywhere is jacked in the head. The internet can be very powerful and can portray many things that are skewed. There are certainly bad people everywhere, but I don't think there are as many bad people around as you think.
