Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon Diesels To Be Further Scrutinized

GM's Upcoming Diesel For Their Midsize Trucks Go Under Further Scrutiny

The Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon Diesels are feeling the backlash of the Volkswagen diesel scandal. According to Automotive News, General Motors has been told by EPA and California Air Resources Board (CARB) will not certify the trucks until they have undergone tests in the lab and on the road.

“The EPA and CARB told us they are going to do on-road testing," said Scott Yackley, assistant chief engineer for Chevrolet Trucks.

GM says the additional testing could push back the launch of the diesel trucks, which are expected to launch in the fourth quarter. But GM is confident that the trucks will pass the tests.

“Part of our development process is on-road and off-road [laboratory] testing,” said Yackley.

Personally I have only been luke warm to the Jeep Renegade with this being the best looking one I have seen.

I also feel that not only should Jeep follow through with this accessory they should build and sell but I think GM should do this for the Colorado / Canyon twins.

I would not buy one but it has that Soul like quality of being different that appeals to many people. If quality holds it should do well.

I hate the tail lights as they look like the eyes of a dead cartoon figure.

:roflmao: Very true the tail lights do remind me of dead cartoon characters but then anime and cartoons are big right now all over especially with Marvel Movies.

What do you think about the trailer? Should GM do something like that for their twins?

No trailer. I would spend the money on more bolt on goods for the Colorado and Canyon. Affordable items that will sell in volume.

I still would love to see a ZQ8 version with proper sized wheels and lowered.

"Look at GM and Chrysler post bail out and GM is already to the point they have replaced most of their platforms with new platforms and are already into the second gen of refresh on some of theses models in the next one to two years. They even created a new Omega platform. Yet Chrysler is left with older and borrowed models. Even the RWD replacements were pushed back."

I think this summed it all up VERY well. I know it put it into a different perspective to me. Thanks hyper.

the only poblem is, he is not being nearly truthful hear.  Most of the GM platforms are older than he lets on.  The Impala for example, just hit a platform Buick has been using for a few years and before that was running a NINE year old design based on a platform more than 20 years.  The Regal, 11-15 Cruze, were both based on platforms sold and designs sold in the rest of world for YEARS before they hit our shores.  The Malibu, 13-15 was based on that older Regal platform.  Alpha really is the only new car platform seen before 16.

Well no.... there is also the Gamma 2 platform (Sonic, Trax, Encore) that came out post BK.   The truck and SUV platforms are new and that's where GM makes most of their money.   You're also incorrect about the Impala.  Epsilon 2 does not equal Epsilon 1.  Impala came out in 2013 using a modified version of the Epsilon 2.... Epsilon 2 came out in 2008... so about 5 years.   The Regal/Insignia was the first car on the Epsilon 2 platform, again released in 2008.   E2XX is the replacement for Epsilon 2 and the 2016 Malibu is the first car on that platform.

So, post BK and pre-2016 GM has released:

    Alpha

Omega (CT6 will be here in December, just making the cut)

    Full-Size Trucks - K2XX

    Full-Size SUVs - K2XX

Mid-size trucks (current iteration started in 2012 in other countries)

    Gamma 2

    D2XX - the replacement for Delta 2 in the 2016 Cruze/Volt

E2XX - the replacement for Epsilon 2 in the 2016 Malibu

    • MECHANICAL PHOTOS The engine bay is neatly arranged as it typically is in GM products, with dipsticks, reservoirs, and an easy to reach battery ... someone would have had to help me find the turbocharger One can see 3 exhaust manifold passages below the engine shroud The engine placard says 1.3 liters and long running OBD II diagnostics - - - - - END OF PHOTOS
    • INTERIOR PHOTOS This is what the driver sees upon entering and the light switches are in their own small panel (set to auto) This is the view from the passenger's door and this provides a good view of the outlets above and buttons below the cubby space at the front of the console The dashboard is very sensibly arranged, easy to learn, and easy on the eyes ... note several push buttons for drive mode, traction, etc. right ahead of the shift lever and various plugs right below the climate control panel.  The touch screen is engaged and the vents above the center stack provide excellent air circulation. This shows typical Chevrolet gauge graphics, a fuel gauge with graphic bars, and an always useful coolant temperature gauge.  Key lights for driving modes (traction, following distance, etc.) are above the graphic display box between the 2 round gauges. This is the typical graphic box in various Chevrolets and, once it has been learned, toggling between trip, vehicle, and eco. becomes easy.  Trip has the most options while eco. rarely needs to be used.  To the left of the odometer is the graphic which shows AWD or 2WD. Cubby hole for phone, outlets for plugs, and push button controls (partial, at the right) sensibly arranged as well as honeycomb hatch to look like it could have been fabric Rear seat legroom appears to be respectable.  The two-tone effect on the fabric is fairly nice and there are map pockets behind both front seats. This shows the rearward view from the driver's seat which would make lane change and parking assists helpful The rear seats follow a "60-40" (long running car jargon) split back, a courtesy lamp, and a groove for the rear cover (which was not present in the vehicle) This gives an idea of the cargo space with the rear seats in their upright position as well as 2 usable storage wells at each side of the rear cargo area
    • EXTERIOR PHOTOS The side view shows the more compact shape and the sheet metal accents, attractive alloy wheels, and a roof rack  The angled rear view shows taillamps which look fairly true-to-form for Chevrolet, but the liftgate is slightly heavy to pull up and push back down ... a person also has to make sure it's fully shut The angled front view shows attractive (LED) lighting
