    Mercedes-Benz Announces Pricing For The E400 Hybrid

    Mercedes-Benz has announced pricing for the 2013 E400 Hybrid. For $55,800* (excluding $905 destination charge), you get a a 3.0L DI V6 engine good for 302 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. The gas engine is supplemented by an electric motor which is rated at 27 HP and 207 lb-ft of torque.

    EPA hasn't revealed official mileage numbers for the E400 Hybrid, but Mercedes-Benz expects it to get 24 City/32 Highway/27 Combined.

    The E-class Hybrid is priced at $55,800 and the E-Class Bluetec diesel with 400 ft-lb at 1500rpm is $52,200 which is only about $1,200 more than the gasser E350.

    I think I know which one I'd go with.

    Will be interesting to see how this sells and how the customers respond. I suspect we will see two messages.

    1) it is a slow car with ok gas mileage

    2) It is a nice car by why is the gas mileage so bad.

    Performance folks will complain it is not fast enough and tree huggers will complain it does not have good enough gas mileage.

    The problem with the E400 is the diesel is better. They should put the hybrid system on to the Diesel V6 or even the turbo 4 diesel if they really want to sky rocket the fuel economy. I know diesel-hybrid is a bit harder to do, but I remember reading that Mercedes has pretty much got it figured out.

    Why would a diesel hybrid be harder to do?

    Apparently the stop/start feature of hybrids leads to some refinement issues on a diesel engine, but a review I read of the E300 Bluetec Hybrid says it is pretty seamless. Cost is a factor also. It must not be easy to do since no manufacturer outside of Mercedes and Puegot/Citroen makes one.

    The E400 isn't the car we want though, the better choice is the E300 bluetec hybrid because it has 224 hp and can still get the E-class from 0-60 in 7.5 seconds, but it gets a Prius beating 56 mpg.

      Mercedes-Benz Reports November Sales Of 30,363 Units, Up 1.1%
      ATLANTA, Dec. 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) today reported November sales of 30,363 vehicles, increasing 1.1% from the 30,043 vehicles sold during the same month last year. Mercedes-Benz Vans also reported November sales with 2,564 units, and smart reported 563 units, bringing MBUSA grand total to 33,490 vehicles for the month. On a year-to-date basis, Mercedes-Benz retails totaled 308,226. Adding year-to-date-sales of 30,444 for Vans and 5,025 for smart, MBUSA posted a grand total of 343,695 units in November, increasing 0.6% from the previous year.
      "As we begin the last month of 2016, November momentum positions us for a strong close to the year," said Dietmar Exler, president and CEO of MBUSA.
      Mercedes-Benz volume leaders in November included the C-Class, GLE and E-Class (including the CLS) model lines. The C-Class took the lead at 7,261, followed by the GLE at 4,694. The E-Class, rounded out the top three with 4,642 units sold.
      Mercedes-AMG high-performance models sold 2,590 units in November, with a total of 20,135  units sold year-to-date (up 37.4%).
      Separately, Mercedes-Benz Certified Pre-Owned (MBCPO) models recorded sales of 10,091 vehicles in November, an increase of 7.1% from last year (9,422). On a year-to-date basis, MBCPO sold 112,347 vehicles, an increase of 3.3%.

      Ever since Mercedes-Benz introduced the new E-Class earlier this year, there has been speculation as to when its sister model, the CLS would be redesigned. A new report says that it will take place in 2018.
      According to Automotive News, the next-generation CLS is expected to go on sale in the summer of 2018 for the U.S. The model will use Mercedes' Modular Rear Architecture (MRA) that is not only lighter than the platform underpinning the current CLS, but also bring more room. Spy shots reveal that the design of the next CLS will evolve, but will not depart from the current look. There is talk that the new inline-six that Mercedes announced earlier this month could be used for the CLS.
      The interesting bit about Automotive News' report is that Mercedes could move the CLS name to a new four-door sedan that AMG is currently developing, while the standard model would use the CLE nameplate. Also under speculation is that CLS shooting brake will be dropped when the next-generation model is introduced.

      I was thoroughly surprised when I came to read this and read the results and I think it is the best looking of the group and it sounds like it(and all new Cadillacs) have been nailing the driving portion of the car. But a major bummer on the interior and yet again CUE. How long will it take them to sort that out???  It looks like Cadillac was going for "value for size". rather than just being the best and that's disappointing.

Cadillac had its old Northstar V-8s, Mercedes-Benz a 4.3-liter, and Volvo a 4.4-liter V-8 in the mid-priced offerings. But downsizing is all the rage these days, and all three of those manufacturers’ new mid-priced offerings are powered by diminutive 2.0-liter four-cylinder engines. Although the 2017 Volvo S90 T6 AWD Inscription makes just as much of a visual impression as the Caddy and Merc, it differs ever so slightly under the hood. Yes, it too has a 2.0-liter four-banger, but the S90’s is twin-charged, featuring both a supercharger and a turbocharger. The end result is a potent little engine making 316 hp. That’s V-8 territory.

      Those who were hoping that Mercedes-Benz would bring the X-Class pickup to the U.S., we have some bad news for you. Dietmar Exler, Mercedes-Benz USA CEO tells Automotive News they are passing on bringing the X-Class here for the time being. At the moment, the market doesn't make sense for Mercedes to start selling it. That doesn't mean it will never come. Exler revealed the company will continue its analysis of the U.S. market along with keep track of how well the X-Class is doing in other markets.
      “It’s the biggest segment we’re not in. It’s overall an attractive, huge segment, but we need to make sure it’s the right time for Mercedes," said Exler.
      Exler wouldn't give a timetable of when the X-Class could arrive in the U.S. But he did hint that the second-generation model could be in the cards.
      “Once the next version of the truck comes out -- when we see the next iteration -- there might be an opportunity to bring it in the medium and the long-term.”
