2027 Scout Traveler & Terra | Specs, EV Range, Off-Road Capability

The 2027 Scout Traveler SUV and Terra truck head into production with 350-mile EV range, 500+ mile EREV, 1,000 lb-ft of torque, and serious off-road specs.

Scout, with over 150,000 reservations for their Traveler SUV and Terra Truck, is quickly heading toward full production aimed to start by the beginning of 2027. Test mules have been spotted out and about around the factory in South Carolina. Many things were stated when the SUV and Truck were first revealed back in 2024.

Here we are in 2026 and less than a year away from full production of these EVs. Let's dig into an update on what the details are for the Traveler and Terra.

Shared Specs: Traveler SUV & Terra Truck

First, let's start with some basic details that cover both the SUV and truck.

    • EV version will go 0 to 60 mph acceleration in 3.5 seconds
    • Extended Range generator versions will go 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds
      • Acceleration capabilities Scout reminds us will depend on final vehicle configuration, equipment, etc. The numbers supplied is an empty vehicle with a driver.
    • SUV and Truck are both estimated to produce at least 1,000 lb-ft of torque through the electronic drive units.
    • Projected payload capacity is 2,000 lbs for both the SUV and Truck.
    • Battery size for EV only will be 120 - 130 kWh size
      • Estimated range of 350 miles
    • Range Extender models will be 60 - 70 kWh size
      • Estimated range of 500 plus miles
    • American Axle is the supplier for the front and rear electronic drive axle units.
    • Off-road capabilities have been stated as follows:
      • They are projected to come standard with dual-motors for four-wheel drive, a solid rear axle, a locking rear differential, and off-road drive modes. Plus, the bumpers and rockers are separated from the body and are designed to act as protective elements.

      • For even more capability, customers will be able to select an optional off-road package, which includes off-road tires, special shock tuning, a locking front differential, and more. Scout vehicles will also offer a front sway bar disconnect, designed to improve wheel articulation, comfort, and traction on uneven terrain – offering the best of both on-road and off-road handling. Final details will be confirmed as we approach production.

    • Type of Differential: A standard mechanical-locking rear differential. A mechanical-locking front differential will be part of an optional off-road package.

    • Scout vehicles are designed to come standard with a dual-motor, four-wheel drive system. The rear motor is paired with a standard solid rear axle for enhanced capability and durability.

    • Each Scout will come with a spare tire:

      • Scout Traveler: Offers a rear-mounted spare tire carrier that seamlessly integrates into the vehicle’s body and rear design. It can hold a full-size spare up to 35 inches with minimal impact on aerodynamics.

      • Scout Terra: Offers an underbody spare tire carrier for up to 33-inch tires, with an option for a 35-inch all-terrain tire carrier mounted in the bed.

    • Scout will use an 800V high-voltage architecture with fast charging capable of up to 350 kW.

    • Physical controls: Scout has confirmed that market research has stated that while a big screen is desired for feedback to the end user, a mechanical tactile experience is preferred. Scout has confirmed the following:

      • Mechanical door handles

      • Mechanical grab bars

      • Mechanical switches / dials for traditional things such as heat, cooling, radio, defrost, windows, etc.—a real hands-on experience

    • Scout platform is an all-new ladder-frame chassis designed for long-term durability and reliability on- and off-road.

    • Suspension is currently still not stated, but Scout has stated that they will offer an optional air springs system with active damping working with the solid rear axle.

    • All Scout vehicles will come with USB-C for easy access to all seats and 120V outlets.

    • Scout vehicles are expected to handle up to 100% grade.

    • Water fording capabilities are projected to handle three feet of water depth.

    • Multiple Roof options with powered shade, open-air options with privacy and thermal control.

    • Seating options

      • Captain chairs with multifunctional center console or front bench seat.

    • Community UX interface

      • The Community UX ecosystem will prioritize simplicity and convenience. Instead of hiding features in complex menus, it will combine tactile buttons and knobs with a responsive, right-sized digital interface. This will ensure intuitive and low-effort interactions for all users.

      • The system will also offer three customizable information modes:
        • Detailed View: For those who love diving into vehicle data.
        • Default Mode: Displays essential information for easy, stress-free driving.
        • Detox Mode: Minimizes distractions with a clean, simple display.2027 Scout Terra electric pickup truck exterior side view

I want one of these so bad. I wouldn't even worry about the "range extended" version as the EV range will be sufficient enough for me. 350 miles of range is more than enough for me. I'd be fine with like 275+ miles of range.

My only issue is price and if I could swallow a 60-70k depreciating asset.

Oh, I guess my other issue is the dealership/maintenance/repair network situation. I know they're supposed to be building a repair network, but I still worry without any legacy-like established buildings. Yes, they claim to drive to you wherever you are and I'm sure that's only while under warranty, but what happens outside of warranty? Am I paying like a $500 bill to come to my house then to diagnose an issue?

Like you the EV is good enough without all the complexity of having a generator built above the rear axle/electric motor for added maintenance.

Based on my current experience with my EV9 I would have to say that not having a Legacy dealership is fine as maintenance is pretty much nonexistent.

Repairs / replacement of worn-out parts as long as there are some places to take it, then I do not see an issue. I honestly think Scout will do what Tesla and Rivian has done and will have contracts with companies that cover not only warranty but any other service needs. An example of this is EV's Republic of California.

Tesla Maintenance & Repair Services by EV’s Republic

There are also a number of other companies that have contracts to cover service and as such can be found here: 3rd Party Tesla Service: Independent Repair Guide 2025 | Recharged

Rivian is also signing agreements to expand their service / warranty network.

ALLDATA Becomes First Third-Party Provider to Add Electric Vehicle Manufacturer Rivian to Repair Software | ALLDATA

I believe Scout will go this same route with contracts to 3rd party companies for auto repair.

Hyundai/Kia do have dealerships all over the place though. I wouldn't worry about a service location if I already knew where they were located. The issue with Scout is there are no locations as of right now, that I know of.

Not sure if you have any Pep Boys automotive centers where you are, but they have signed on to be Tesla and Rivian service centers which makes it pretty easy to get to one beside Tesla/Rivian having their own locations.

There are certainly some "in the area", but I really don't know where one is.

It's really just a wait and see for Scout, for me. As much as I'd love one, this feels like it may be the biggest hurdle to get over. Price is pretty cut and dry, can I afford it or not? Where or how will I get it serviced, because it isn't set in stone right now, is an issue.

I also don't know which I'd get, the SUV or truck? My first instinct says the SUV, but I'd love the bed of a truck. I only need two rows of seats so even if the SUV offered a 3rd row(I haven't looked into or remember if it does or not), I'd leave it flat more likely anyway.

Okay, well I googlemaped Pep Boys and they are NOT in the STL area. I feel like they used to be, because I remember the commercials, but they certainly are not anymore.

Once the VW dealers stop suing over Scout, I wonder if they'll get the maintenance contract.

Private Equity.  They got bought up by an equity firm that also owns either Advance or AutoZone (can't remember which, if you care enough you can google lol).   The equity firm decided that there was no point having two brands competing on auto parts sales, so they closed down the PepBoys parts (which sucks because they typically had the best prices of the walk-in parts stores) and made PepBoys service only.   In the process, a lot of PepBoys became unsustainable in their current locations because their building footprint was too large for the dollar volume coming through, so many of them closed.  This was mid-late Covid era, so a lot of the service departments simply never got rebuilt.

Sing it with me now... Private Equity Ruins America.

They've been doing that sort of thing for years and maybe the Tesla/Rivian thing will be the one that finally saves them.  They were suppose to take over Saturn and Saab service too.  I think they had Suzuki for a bit. They were the official service center for Daewoo for like 5 minutes.

When it was first announced and everything, I thought VW was going to service them and I had no issue with that. There's a VW dealership about 30 minutes away. That would have been just fine with me. Theeeeeen I read they will have their own service centers and for people outside of X miles, they'd have the service come to you. That sounds good and all but I know that isn't for the life of the vehicle and when something isn't covered I'm sure there will be a distance-like service fee attached.

Advance and AutoZone are stores though. Maybe there's another service center you're thinking of? Meineke?

I'm not sure what you're asking.

The private equity firm owns both PepBoys and one of those other two.  PepBoys does service, but they ALSO had basically an entire AutoZone and more inside. They had a much bigger and (IMHO) better selection than the other two.  The private equity firm closed out the retail parts & accessories side of PepBoys and made them all service only.  There were some PepBoys that were already like that, but most had a retail parts counter also.

If PepBoys was replaced by either AutoZone or Advance Auto, you're saying a service shop(with a retail store (PepBoys)) was replaced by just retail stores? That's the only reason I was suggesting it may not have been AutoZone/Advance.

I'm saying that the retail store was removed from Pepboys.

    Old footprint:

PepBoys:  Service bays + Retail auto parts and accessories (typically the retail area alone was bigger than an AutoZone)
AutoZone: Retail auto parts and accessories

    New Footprint:

    PepBoys: Service bays only
    AutoZone: Retail auto parts only

    @ccap41 @Drew Dowdell

Pep Boys is currently owned by Icahn Automotive Group LLC

Icahn Automotive Group LLC owns Pep Boys, Auto Plus, Precision Tune Auto Care, AAMCO Total Auto Care

I agree that once the lawsuit is over I can see VW picking up the servicing of Scout EVs.

350 miles of range for the Truck or SUV with AA/CP if they support it on an 800V system is a win and will have me very interested in the EVs to own.

Sadly, my dad had considered back in the 70's of becoming an AAMCO Franchise, but after starting down the rabbit hole, discovered things he was not thrilled with and choose to stay independent. As such, the whole Icahn approach to how they run things has turned me off from these companies.

I have little faith in them being honorable and more about how to take your money and give little back.

Interesting about Pep Boys..I had no idea.  There aren't any in my area, looks like they have a few locations down in Youngstown and in Central Ohio around Columbus.  Auto Zone, Advance and O'Reilly are my locals.   I tend to prefer O'Reilly, if only because I worked on their inventory system for a while on a project when the consulting firm I was at in Arizona had them as a client.

    • New York - At the 2026 New York International Auto Show, Kia introduced the 2027 EV3, an entry-level electric SUV that brings the design language and technology of the EV9 into a smaller, more attainable package. The EV3 arrives in five trims — Light, Wind, Land, GT-Line, and GT — with a targeted on-sale date of late 2026. Pricing will be announced closer to launch. Two Batteries, Real Range The EV3 is built on Kia's 400V E-GMP platform with a choice of two battery options. The entry Light trim uses a 58.3 kWh pack with front-wheel drive and up to a Kia-estimated 220 miles of range. The remaining four trims step up to an 81.4 kWh battery with up to a Kia-estimated 320 miles of range in FWD configuration. All-wheel drive is optional on Wind and Land and standard on GT-Line and GT. Output is 261 horsepower on AWD models and 288 horsepower on the GT, which adds a sport-tuned suspension and steering along with neon green brake calipers, seatbelts, and interior accents. The 58.3 kWh battery charges from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 29 minutes on a DC fast charger; the 81.4 kWh battery takes approximately 31 minutes. A native NACS port is standard, and Plug and Charge capability allows charging to begin by simply plugging in after a one-time setup in the Kia Access app. EV9 Design Language The EV3's exterior borrows directly from the EV9, including the star map DRL, hidden rear door handles, and flush-mounted roof rails. Standard wheels are 17-inch alloys; GT-Line and GT step up to 19-inch wheels, with the GT receiving unique 19-inch wheels to match its green caliper accents. A U.S.-exclusive Nightfall appearance package is available on certain trims, adding gloss black wheels, black emblems, bridge-type roof rails, and a dark gray interior. Interior, Cargo, and V2L Inside, the EV3 mirrors the EV9's cockpit with a nearly 30-inch panoramic display: dual 12.3-inch screens plus a 5-inch climate display. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on all trims, and the ccNC system supports over-the-air updates. Available entertainment includes Netflix and YouTube streaming, along with display themes for Disney, Marvel, the NBA, and FIFA World Cup 2026. Cargo capacity is 26.1 cubic feet behind the second row, expanding to 56.5 cubic feet with the seats folded. The EV3 also includes a 0.9 cubic foot frunk. Rear seat backs recline up to 39 degrees. Available Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) allows the battery to power external devices; available Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) via a Wallbox bidirectional charger can return power to the home during outages. Kia's i-Pedal 3.0 one-pedal driving system is standard and now also functions in reverse. Safety All EV3 models include eight standard airbags including rear side airbags, Forward Collision Avoidance Assist with Junction Turning, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Departure Warning, and Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go. Available systems include Highway Driving Assist 2 and Remote Smart Parking Assist. • New York - The second-generation 2027 Kia Seltos made its North American debut at the 2026 New York International Auto Show, arriving longer, wider, and with something no competitor in the compact crossover segment can match: three distinct powertrain options. Three Powertrains The base engine carries over as the 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder, paired with Kia's Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT). Available in LX, S, EX, and X-Line trims, it comes with front-wheel drive or available all-wheel drive. Step up to the X-Line and the 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder develops 190 horsepower, routed through an 8-speed automatic with standard all-wheel drive. Rounding out the lineup is a new hybrid powertrain, pairing a 1.6-liter four-cylinder with a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission. The Seltos HEV also introduces e-AWD, a first for Kia on a hybrid SUV, delivering on-demand rear-axle power without a traditional driveshaft. Kia is reserving HEV performance figures and pricing for a later date. The 2.0-liter and 1.6T are targeted to arrive at dealerships in the second quarter of 2026. The HEV follows in late 2026. Bigger and More Capable The new Seltos grows in every dimension compared to the outgoing model, with the wheelbase increasing by 2.4 inches. That extra footprint translates into more interior space, including an inch of additional rear legroom, along with gains in headroom, shoulder room, and hip room. Cargo capacity behind the second row is an estimated 27.8 cubic feet, expanding to 64.1 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. Ground clearance rises from 7.3 to an available 8.1 inches. X-Line models add a new Multi-terrain AWD mode for light off-road use. Styling borrows cues from Kia's flagship Telluride, including amber DRL framing the front fascia, bold angles, and available auto-flush door handles. New exterior colors include Terrain Brown, Frost Blue, and Snow White Pearl with a contrasting black roof. Standard wheels are 16-inch alloys; the X-Line 2.0L steps up to 18-inch alloys, and the X-Line 1.6T and X-Line HEV with e-AWD receive 19-inch black wheels. Technology Inside, the ccNC infotainment system features a standard 12.3-inch touchscreen. An optional configuration pairs it with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 5-inch climate control display, totaling nearly 30 inches of combined screens, matching what Kia offers in larger vehicles. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on all trims, and the system supports over-the-air updates. Available entertainment features include streaming for Disney+, Netflix, and YouTube, along with customizable display themes for all 30 NBA teams and select Disney brands. The HEV trim uses a stalk-mounted gear selector borrowed from the Telluride and EV9, freeing up the center console for open storage. Advanced Safety Standard on all 2027 Seltos models is Forward Collision Avoidance Assist with Junction Turning, Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Departure Warning, and front and rear Parking Distance Warning. Available features include a 360-degree Surround View Monitor and a Blind-Spot View Monitor that displays a live video feed of the corresponding blind spot when the turn signal is activated. • Again, loving owning the Camry Hybrid, I plan on full EV next car.  The world's opinion will not go back, nor should it.  You do motorcycles, I do Bicycles. Riding around, even in deep red areas I am seeing a TON of EV's here in Ohio.  Its like Diesel vs Steam for railroads. At a certain point, even if you are Norfolk and Western and have tons of near free coal, or Pennsylvania with advanced steam locomotives, Diesel just makes infinite sense. Likewise, EV's. ICE is dead man walking.
    • I am loving Hybrid, I can't wait to do full EV when I replace the truck.
