I think this is one nice looking compact CUV(?) or MPV(?). It may draw some badly needed attention back to Mitsubishi when it comes to the U.S. Mitsubishi should discontinue the awkward looking Lancer Sportback when this model arrives in the U.S. I think U.S. buyers will accept and consider this over an odd looking hatchback. Mitsubishi i-MiEV a preview of automotive future It happened on Detroit's East Side: A driver in a Smart car waved at me. He saw what I was piloting, and it was a sign of the highest respect. What prompted this in-the-club type response from someone committed to saving the planet one fuel-sipping mile at a time? The answer is a car not even sold in the United States: the Mitsubishi i-MiEV. The name stands for Mitsubishi Innovative Electric Vehicle, based on the Mitsu's "i" minicar. The i-MiEV became available for lease in Japan last summer. Since Mitsubishi is bringing the i-MiEV state side in late 2011, they've brought a small fleet of right-hand drive vehicles over …

Mitsubishi has plan to end the skid Hans Greimel Automotive News -- July 12, 2010 - 12:01 am ET TOKYO -- Struggling to revive his dwindling U.S. business, Mitsubishi Motors President Osamu Masuko has outlined a two-pronged plan that hinges on introducing new products and building a new vehicle at an underused Illinois assembly plant. Mitsubishi's sales have fallen off sharply since 2007, when the brand staged a one-year sales revival after four years of precipitous decline. Report: Future Mitsubishi models may each get their own EV variant by Zach Bowman (RSS feed) on Dec 21st 2010 at 2:29PM Word on the web is that Mitsubishi is bracing for the electrification of the automobile in a big way. According to Motor Trend, the Japanese automaker is in the midst of developing all of its future products so that they easily support an EV drivetrain or an internal combustion get up. That line of thinking seems to mesh well with the rumors of the upcoming hybrid crossover from Mitsubishi. The lumbering beast will supposedly take plenty of cues from the PX-MiEV that showed up at the 2009 Tokyo Auto Show, with a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine working…

Next Evo goes diesel hybrid Friday, June 11, 2010 Mitsubishi is planning a radical overhaul of its Lancer Evolution by changing the next incarnation into a diesel hybrid. The switch of drivetrain is designed to save the Evo from tightening economy and emissions regs while preserving its trademark mid-range shove. Mitsubishi is said to have given serious consideration to axing the Evo model altogether. As recently as a month ago, sources in Japan said an earlier project — to switch the car to a petrol hybrid powertrain and base it on the PX-MiEV SUV concept’s platform — was dead. But now the firm’s R&D department has been given approval to push the car in a differe…
