Modding the 2.8L V6

Featured Replies

You could probably use this engine as a template.

1. Bore it out to 3.4L
2. get the heads from this engine.
3. adjust the carb to dump a little more fuel in.

that engine is only for an automatic. otherwise ive never read about the 2.8L being bored out to 3.4? Its already pretty rough, wouldnt the larger bore make it worse?

Bellhousing bolt paterns are the same, the 3.4L Crate motor will work...and what do you mean by saying its already rough? If your 60* V6 is has a rough idle or shakes a lot you have some major issues w/ that motor.

A 3.1L is a 2.8L w/ 8mm more stroke, now add 3mm to the bore and you have a 3.4L...they are all the same basic engines.

There is also a Supercharge kit that runs ~$1700...

No im saying that the 3.4L crate engine is only for automatic transmissions, ive looked at it before. and yes it has a rough idle... sometimes it runs fine, other times gotta keep the foot on the gas to keep it from dying.

It works w/ a manual, you just have to modify the trans to hydraulic and find a pilot bshing for the engine.
