Right now I own six Chevrolets: one daily driver, one parts car, and four project cars.

I think I'll be needing a change once I get through this batch of projects.

And no, I'm not thinking of jumping into the Jag project.

Come on, man, you're too young to be wearing adult diapers.

I guess that depends...

I really doubt that it will be a Buick, but I'm not sure what vintage I want to do next.

I wish you were around the corner though, I'd love to give you a hand with yours!

Had to throw that Wawa perk in, didn't you?

I'd love to give you a hand some weekend along the line.

It's been quite a while since I did any work non-solo, even the race car work is all me.

Nothing wrong with Chevy, just have to use some imagination. How about a rear-engined 1959 Impala wheelie machine? :rwd:

Nothing wrong with Chevy at all!

But I'd like to do something else for a change.

I also want the process to be different.

For something offbeat, how about a ground up restoration of an '80s Aries, Tempo, or Cimmaron? Or other '80s non-classic.

"Offbeat" would be putting it mildly.

No FWD - ever!

I am thinking late 50s - early 60s...

Hmmm...how about a Studebaker Lark, Rambler American, or one of those hideous '60-62 Valiants? That would be offbeat.

Wait- you sounded reluctant to work with others.... here's your chance to work solo. :??:

ah- HA !!!

Come on down! You're the next resto-modder on the World's Quickest '59 Buick !

In response to a phantom, and in the vein of an Elky :: ever think of an extended-deck coupe with an Elky-esque greenhouse (in size), or a 3-seater 'sports roadster' ??

'58 Biscayne 2-dr, extended deck. It'd be the only one.

'nother question: What sedan deliveries were still in production during any of the years from '59 to say '63ish?

Chevy's last was '59 or '60. Ford's was '59. There was a Falcon sedan delivery from '60-65. Don't know when the last Mopie one was or from the independents. Rambler had one based on the Rambler 2dr wagon at some point, seen a pic of one from the late '50s.

Hmm, can't say I ever considered that recipe.

I do think I'd like to stick to the "longer, lower, wider" era this time around.

The "58 is a bit of a chunk.

As far as a phantom, a '59 Chevy coupe with El Camino doors and roof could be interesting, w a lengthened decklid or shortened wheelbase. Something like that would be fun to build in 1:25th scale.

Trying to stay away from Chevy...

A Pontiac El Camino could be interesting, though. Been done before, tho..

Chevy : '59-60.

Ford : '59-'60.

'61-63 (Falcon-based).

Stude : '59-60(?) Lark

I will caution you thusly- there is a huge difference in GM between '59 & '64 body construction. The later you go, the.... more logically things go together.

Understood.

I will have to decide just how far to venture out of my comfort zone.

The '58 Chiivy is a chunky monkey, but it has real solid cut-n-weld possibilities.

I completely understand wanting to stay away from Chevys... :P

I would have to go independant- esp if you were looking to get radical.

'59 Pontiacs are best left mild- a LOT of contours to deal with.

'60s-'62s lend themselves better to 'alternate visions, IMO.

I can't warm much to intermediates- the Falcon is interesting & rare, but there's not much material to work with. That one does look slick tho, moltie.

Seen 'em and like 'em, but I think I want to stay within GM.

A sedan delivery phantom based off one of the '61-63 GM compacts could be interesting (Tempest wagon, F85, Skylark)

I think if I were going to have a mild custom GM from the early '60s, I'd want a '61 bubbletop...my favorites probably being the Olds w/ it's skegs or a Pontiac. Keep the body work stock but custom wheels/tires, etc.

I love this '61 88 I saw in Santa Monica a few years ago..

Did the BOP divisions have 2-door wagons in the '61-'63 years?

Nope..would be a phantom. GM didn't have any 2dr wagons in the '60s except for the '64-65 Chevelles, I think.

Can't find that pic.

No 'O' or 'P' 2-dr wagons... only thing here is the '62 Chevy II 100 & 300 2-dr wagon. :(

(Like Rob said; until the '64 Chevelle...)

How much of a project as far as alterations are you looking to do ??

Never heard of that..thought all Chevy II wagons were 4drs. Got a pic of one?

Unsure.

I just know that I want to have the project firmly in mind before finding the project car this time around.

This is just a brainstorming session, really.
