Call to dissolve the CRTC

Featured Replies

I know we don't have a lot of Canadian members here... but I'm trying to get this message out and far.

Are you tired of expensive phone and TV bills? Do you want your internet to show only what the big companies want you to see and drop everything else?

The CRTC (Canadian Radio-Television Commission) has displayed that it has lost its direction and forgot about its organization motto: to have a fair and unbiased policy. Recent incidents, such as allowing Bell to throttle users connections and introduce Usage Based Billing to its wholesale customers (in order for Bell to control the prices of smaller ISPs) are clear indications that the CRTC has a bias towards the interests of large corporations.

This petition calls for change of this. Re-organize the CRTC so it will actually do what it's supposed to do.

The CRTC is becoming dangerous, so thanks for posting this. I've signed, and I'm sending it to a couple others as well.

Discontent 101: Petitions don't work. Show up in Ontario and picket peacefully...that'll get the message across since you took time out of your life to stand for something.

It's less about the petition, and more about showing people that the CRTC is restricting people's choices of entertainment, in the name of preserving 'Canadian culture.'

I know, I'm just saying the only useful aspect of a petition is obtaining a required number of signatures for a ballot initiative. Otherwise, pretty useless. You'll get more public awareness by DOING something, like a peaceful protest, or some other type of event that would garner media coverage. Even a viral web video would do more.

Too bad you didn't bring this to the U.S.'s attention a year or two ago, we could have invaded and hung a "Mission Accomplished" banner from the CN Tower.

HAHA!! That would have been the best ribbon-cutting ceremony ever.
