Last Summer, GM announced that it would be working with their partner in China, SAIC to build a new dry dual-clutch automatic transmission. Now, a patent filled by GM has been uncovered. The patent shows a seven speed dual-clutch transmission for front wheel drive vehicles. It's unknown what vehicles the transmission will be put into, but small cars like the Chevrolet Cruze and Buick Verano are contenders.

Didn't they also patent 8- and 9-Speed transmissions a while ago? Could be a while before we see them but if Chrysler is using dualclutch and 8 speeds then maybe sooner?

If they did, no one has found the patent filing.

Chrysler's Eight Speed transmissions are coming from ZF so they will have them sooner than GM. I don't know if their Dual-Clutch are coming from there as well.

I'm guessing this entire generation of Cruzes and Veranos will pass before it even has a possibility of getting one... not sure why it would be suggested. If they can get it out quick enough, I imagine the XTS will be the first product to get it.
