Porsche Reports May 2018 U.S. Sales

  • Porsche clocks second month in a row with more than 5,000 customer deliveries

ATLANTA, June 1, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Porsche Cars North America, Inc. (PCNA), importer and distributor of the Porsche 911, 718 Boxster and Cayman, Panamera, Macan and Cayenne model lines, today announced May 2018 sales of 5,005 vehicles. This represents year-over-year growth of 4.2 percent, the fifth consecutive monthly record since January. Overall, sales for the first five months are up 6.4 percent from a year ago to 24,529 vehicles.

"This is a new level of Porsche fascination. May was the first time our dealers delivered more than 5,000 cars a month for two months in a row, after April's all-time record of 5,570," said Klaus Zellmer, President and CEO of PCNA. "The story of this year so far is the strong performance across our model lines, from the iconic Porsche 911 and 718 to our new generation Panamera and best-selling Macan."

May growth leaders were the 718 Boxster and Cayman, which combined grew 31.8 percent from May 2017, followed by the Macan at 29.5 percent. Panamera sales rose 16.7 percent from a year ago and the Porsche 911 was up 6.7 percent.

We clearly have European, Asian and Americas auto fans. I feel this is a good place to discuss the sales of segments, models, etc. here. I have pulled the latest Statista data that can be gotten for free to show here and discuss.
As such, there is clearly a leadership perceived image that BMW and Mercedes-Benz have carried the last few years. Yet with that, you look at over all sales and both these companies have flipped and flopped leadership of the year in specific luxury segments but lack over all auto sales in the US.
Based on the reports that @Drew Dowdell posted in January 2020 on 2019 auto sales:

Last month, Porsche unveiled the Taycan Turbo and Turbo S, the two top trims of the Taycan, priced starting around $155,000.  Now, Porsche is debuting the Taycan 4S, a new lower price model.
The Taycan 4S comes with a single-layer performance battery with 79.2 kWh as standard, the two-layer performance battery plus from the Taycan Turbo is available as an option.  Regardless of which battery is chosen, the Taycan can accelerate to 60 in as little as 3.8 seconds.  As of yet, range estimates for the U.S. have not been published, but assume somewhere north of 250 miles on the performance plus battery.
All-wheel drive is standard on the 4S, with a dual motor setup and a 2-speed transmission on the rear motor, the overall motor package is smaller and lighter than in the Turbo and Turbo S.
The Taycan can charge at up to 800 volts at a high-speed DC charging station. That can bring the charge from 5% to 80% in as little as 22.5 minutes. Porsche has partnered with Amazon to have 240 volt home chargers installed at customer's homes for an additional charge.
The Taycan 4S will start at $103,800 for the base model and $110,380 for the model with the performance plus battery.
Ordering of the Taycan 4S is available immediately.
