* Anyone remember me!? Been almost 2 years since I visited and posted. Life is short and unpredictable; treasure every moment. I logged into social media Saturday afternoon (09.14.2024) for the 1st time in over a year and quickly discovered a few more friends had died. One in particular from my "heart circles", Lorraine, was 1 of the 1st to meet up with me after Dan's death because she knew we'd be laughing hysterically as usual from our conversational topics; laughter was surely needed. Another, Rich, from my automotive and Route 66 circles, had shown me his 1973 Monte Carlo he bought brand new when I visited him the 1st time during my 2009 Route 66 road trip (15 years ago now); at the time, it was in his barn and covered in dust, but he'd recently gotten it out and I never had a chance to see it in person. Hey guys! I kind of accidently came across this while just looking for something to fit our needs. I certainly don't need something quite this large, but it does seem pretty awesome. So anyway, I came across a 2017 Lincoln Navigator Reserve priced at 18,7XX. It does have a lot of miles, but all full-size SUVs(regardless of brand) seem to last forever as long as you don't neglect them. It has 128k on the odometer already. It kind of worries me, but it isn't 1990 and vehicles last a heck of a lot longer than they used to. This price is what really made me look into it further because it's really good. Most anything else full size has either more miles or costs considerably more. This more or less "fell into my lap" while just looking for other vehicles to replace the MKC. It's the last year of this generation of Navigator along with the final year of the gen1 EcoBoost and 6spd auto. I would have to imagine that combination should be pretty bulletproof at the last year of production, right? FWIW, this is a 380hp/460tq version of the gen1 EcoBoost. The previous owners seem to have maintained it pretty well with oil change intervals of 5-8k. I have read these EcoBoosts need frequent oil changes and not to exceed 5k with full syn. That part isn't an issue for me, but the previous owners weren't as strict as I would be. in addition to the oil change intervals, Per the Carfax, and what I saw in person, it has all new front brakes (pads and rotors) and wheel bearings. It also has a brand new set of tires on it (a brand I don't recognize and not what I'd choose, but still great to have). My wife and I went and looked at it in person Saturday, after hours, to just get an idea of how clean or not clean it was on the outside. It's surprisingly REALLY clean. I figured there would at least be a scuffed wheel or two, but there wasn't. Well guys, what do you think? Here are some pictures from their website, that I also linked below. https://www.stauntonchrysler.com/used/Lincoln/2017-Lincoln-Navigator-a7f35ee3ac18177fef5a1c1aa81e45c7.htm2 points

She ain't purdy, but she'll do. Keep in mind that while these might be able to run on regular, you will feel the difference both in refinement and fuel economy if you do. They much prefer premium. Other than that, they are fairly solid. Some of them have run into VVT actuator issues that make them sound like they have a valve tap, but at this mileage, if it hasn't already happened, you're probably good. My issue with it is the price for the miles. I think you can do a better price for that mileage or lower milage for that price.2 points

I was reading and analysing your question and came up with an answer: As you know, or maybe have forgotten, I prefer to buy new. I could guess and assume your budget and needs with our long history together, (congrats on your first born and I have come to learn that a second one is on the way!!! HOORAY!!!) And I have come to also learn that a fullsized SUV and that big of a price tag on a new OR used one is not on the menu for you, but you wouldnt want to pass up on a good deal...understandable, even thought this deal is kinda gone now... I actually did come to an opnion for you, and its one that you came up for yourself actually... Id say...save and buy a Ligntning. 1. Its what you want... 2. It is going to be big enough for your family needs going forward whether you say it might be too big for your family. You will find uses for it. 3. its what you want 4. its an EV and we have been down this road before, EVs are the future because it is what the governments of the world want. 5. the Lightning has all kinds of neat features for the house that only EVs could give you. Like acting as a generator to power your home, etc...1 point

Yeah, I own my MKC. Trade is is something like 11-12k. It's also rated the same as the Pilot's 18/26 mpg. See, I don't think there are many major repairs unless the cam phasers or timing chain goes bad. I could be very wrong, but don't F150's run forever as long as they aren't neglected? "Least worst" is terms I can understand with crossovers. That makes the most sense then. I just don't want something that I don't like at all and I feel like that's just most every crossover from "mainstream" brands. I've also been keeping an eye on Q7's with either the s/c V6 or turbo v6. Somebody is already buying it, hahaha Yeah, I get it. I just know that if I'm not buying this, I am likely just not buying anything. I just don't want anything that...sucks... I'd rather wait and save and buy a Lightning.1 point

What does the trade-in on the MKC look like? If I recall, it is completely paid off. The problem I foresee with something like a Navigator or Tahoe is that they can really trap you financially, especially at mileage that high. You're into a vehicle with those kind of miles, with poor fuel economy, for close to $20k out the door. If repairs don't get you, the fuel mileage will. A Flex might only be rated for 23mpg highway, but it will actually hit it (and possibly beat it), the Navigator won't. Any out the door savings you might see getting that Navigator will get eaten up in the first 2 years at the gas pump even before you have to start putting money into repairs. Every 1,000 miles costs you $164 in fuel in a Pilot while costing $205 in the Navigator. I didn't say the Pilot was exciting, but of all the 3-row crossovers, it's the least boring and has probably the best engine. It will also start and run every day for the next 100 years or until the salt kills the body. I'm just suggesting it is the most sensible vehicle while being the least worst of the crossovers. Here's a Pilot for just a grand more than the Navigator with a leather interior (easier to wipe up spills), with approximately two average driving years fewer miles. Used 2016 Honda Pilot | Carvana. You'd start saving the extra money after the first ~10 months of ownership. I know it's not what you want to hear as a car enthusiast, but something like this is the most responsible option for a new dad of two, while the Honda V6 is probably the nicest you'll get in a crossover other than a Highlander.1 point

Wasn't familiar w/ Rival Sons, will have to check them out...I like those two clips. I saw a tour ad for them, saw that Fu Manchu was opening for them....I remember liking Fu Manchu in the 90s. Which suddenly seems like a long time ago..1 point

On my vacation of the last week (9 days, 7 states, 2300 miles) I did see a variety of interesting cars. I saw a number of ‘tuner’ style Japanese sports cars/etc on the road an in parking lots the last few days in the Outer Banks of NC. Some slammed, some with cambered wheels, custom paint, giant wings. Acura NSX, 3 Mitsubishi 3000 GTs—incl a beige Spyder and a black RHD GTO, a couple Evos, a gray R32 Skyline GT-R, lots of Civics. Must have been some event going on. When I was in Myrtle Beach last week, I found out had been Mustang Week—-saw a bunch of sweet Mustangs of all eras on the way into town. Saw a white Ferrari Roma today, first I’d seen. Saw a minty gold ‘83 RX-7 on I-64 in VA (guessed it was an ‘83 because the plate said ‘FINE 83’. Also saw a couple nice 90s 993-era 911s in traffic. Saw a gorgeous white w/ turquoise interior '66 Eldorado convertible rolling top down in Murrell's Inlet SC. I did see a Bronco Outer Banks edition in that sweet green in, of all places, the Outer Banks (Corolla, to be specific). I also toured a car museum outside Myrtle Beach, 100 cars from a collection, heavy on the Mopars..several late 60s-early 70s Hemi cars. Some that stood out was a red '69 LeSabre convertible, an unrestored Verduro green '69 Grand Prix, and a turquoise '63 Catalina 2dr SD. 2300 miles of driving over 9 days and 7 states, alas most of the freeway traffic that I saw was pretty boring. I only saw 2 CT6s--both pre-facelift, one gray, one white. A few 2nd and 3rd generation CTSes (no Vs, coupes or wagons), a sharp dark blue ATS-V coupe, a light silver blue CT5-V, a couple regular CT5s. At a rest stop, a mint condition silver early '00s DTS pulled up beside me as I was getting out, older couple...I said 'Sharp Caddy' to the driver, he said the same to me about my CT6. Talk about stereotypes--I was walking on the beach at Myrtle Beach state park and came back to the lot and there were two C8 Corvettes parked side by side--a black convertible and bright blue coupe--both drivers looked north of 70 w/ white tennis shoes, jorts and polo shirts..they were chatting about their cars..1 point

Ran some errands this morning and saw a mint condition CT6 Blackwing in glossy black burbling along the road, sounded really good compared to the crack high pitch noise of the mustangs and other luxury brands. Cadillac nailed the defined muscle sound of the exhaust. Noticeable, but not annoying.1 point

Took a Sunday drive out east into the rolling hills, on the way there saw a gorgeous dark turquoise '68 GTO convertible w/ white interior, rolling top down. Also a gorgeous '69 Buick Electra convertible in a silver green w/ matching interior, top down. Came up behind a black w/ yellow stripes late model Camaro w/ Hertz Hendrick #24 logos...must have been a special edition for Hertz. Followed a sharp recent silver blue w/ white stripes Mustang Shelby GT500 with a nice burble tune. Saw a yellow T-Bucket Model T hot rod w/ an older guy w/ long white hair and beard driving. Saw a sharp metallic gray Ferrari SF90 and a clean black '66 Ford Fairlane 2dr about a mile apart on a backroad..Found a tasty Mexican restaurant in the small town of Middlefield, Ohio. I think I need sheepskin seat covers for the Caddy like I have in the Jeep...black leather seats get warm on a hot day, even w/ the AC cranked down.1 point
