  1. Food, any raw materials that primarily come from outside the country (lumber and paper will be the biggest of these) Basically, if we were short on it during covid, we'll probably be short on it again.

  2. That's what gonna happen, but unfortunately, @G. David Felt gets it wrong about the cause. The economy heading to the toilet is what's going to cause low gas prices. Yeah, we'll get low gas prices, but we'll probably also have shortages on other stuff more than we already do.

  3. I understand how history buffs love to hold onto everything, but then everything does live a life and then dies. In this case, repurpose as a cool Diving reef, I think scuba divers will enjoy diving on the ship and seeing how things change over the years in regard to the marine life. I am very interested in how they will sink her. 4. R.I.P. Will be interesting to know what the cause of death is since they both died in different areas as did the dog. Deaths of Gene Hackman and his wife called ‘suspicious’ by investigators I would say it will be a combo of both now. Pathetic that we have idiot leadership that is too stupid to not see how Musk is manipulating Idiot47 as well as the rest of the Lemming GOP. Europe, China and Japan are growing double digits this year compared to the 1% gain in the S&P 500 here. Warren Buffett has sunk almost 138 billion into Japan last year and now and so clearly see's value there.

  6. It's been that way for like, what, 10 years..? That didn't happen overnight. Like what? I think @oldshurst442 has something to say about not caring...

  7. At this point I no longer care. The system is doomed to collapse, and that collapse will be painful. Eventually I will move somewhere where I can live near public transport and no longer need to own a car. Ranger is doing great, 106,000 miles, running well. Thinking of buying a Subaru Crosstrek as a mate for it... Its why I bought 99 percent of what I needed. i can harvest my own lumber, and I own a large vinyl record collection. Hiking in the woods doesn't cost me anything other than gas to get there and a granola bar for the hike. The rest of the world can burn to the ground for all I care. I think this is an excellent use for this particular ship. Her sister ship ran aground and eventually broke up. This is the best possible use.... Indeed.

  9. The issue, for me, is that she would be the only American passenger ocean liner for which this (c/w)ould have been done. I wanted to look at it the next time I go to Philadelphia, not knowing this had occurred. I suppose I could go to nearby Mobile if in Pensacola. The QM has a home in Long Beach. The QE2 has a home in Dubai. Thankfully, they went the tasteful route with the QE2 Hotel rather than making it for folks with too many gold chains and pet cheetahs. I feel that the SS United States, a singular piece of maritime history, could have found a home in an Eastern port city as part of a complex or venue. But what do I know? I wasn't putting together the spreadsheets for such an undertaking.

  12. Its lovely, right? <rolls eyes> To be honest... Its damn near IMPOSSIBLE NOT to talk about "politics" when the President of the United States of America has forced his ideals in EVERY aspect of North American life. Even in NHL hockey... And this little thing of tariffs that will affect every little aspect of North American life INCLUDING the automobiles we love to talk about on this website... This is in Germany BTW Just for starters Yeah...aint it lovely???!!!

  15. I imagine we would be talking politics if we were in 1933 Germany or 1789 France. My question now that the Christian cultists have gained control, is how much longer before Catholics and Protestants start hating each other again, and how long until real anti Semitism comes back in the Christian community? We can have a thousand years of European anti Semitism, 1933 Germany, 1789 France, 1970's Northern Ireland, and and economic and social collapse all at once. The average American voter... Will be too stupid to learn anything from any of this. YMMV. MOAR I need to figure out how to change my investment portfolio to match this... This will give corporations time to buy up single family housing as more and more Americans become unemployed. The economic collapse is a feature, not a fault of the current system for the ultra wealthy. Firing Air Traffic controllers will work out so well for us. I may need lower gas prices, to travel by car/truck. Listening to Jazz this morning. https://listen.tidal.com/album/77698531

  16. A reflection and prediction of her namesake. The site might be wonky for the next couple hours. I have to copy all 100+ gigs over to the development site to set up the test for the next version of the software. It is a MAJOR revision and not every feature will carry over. We're easily 4-6 months away from any transition. I'm just setting up the test environment now.
