  1. I would agree, and say IMO a Delta II Buick and Alpha Pontiac make more sense to me than to flip those platforms. But GM is so myopic IMO.
  2. I agree--this isn't sustainable at all. If this car were lighter, and could be had with some turbo 4s, then it would at least be a contender in the coupe market...but honestly it's just way too big even for that. The V8 is priced way too low, and the 6 doesn't get good enough fuel economy. Wrong car for the time.
  3. Agreed on all counts. Britain kinda scares me, but I look at it that they don't have the history and tradition of individual freedom and liberty to the extent that Americans are accustomed.
  4. Doesn't matter to me one bit, as there are some states where that occurance would most certainly be a de facto ban. That kind of outcome is unconscionable IMO.
  5. This is a tough one...I honestly can't pick 1. It's between FDR and Eisenhower, both for similar reasons: national infrastructure. Eisenhower spearheaded freeway development, and FDR made all those wonderful New Deal programs that built a lot of American infrastructure, including some beautiful pieces of civil engineering.
  6. I believe personal charity should be a personal choice, but I'm simultaneously very much in approval of government social programs to help the poor, whether in the form of affordable housing subsidies, welfare, or other aid. I think every American should engage in some kind of personal community betterment--whether it's with a charitable organization or just by doing park cleanups, adopt-a-road, etc.--but I don't think it should be REQUIRED by law.
  7. Not McCain so much as Palin, and honestly I have no idea who the real John McCain is anymore. Is he the one who said he wanted to stick to the issues and not have a personal campaign? Is he the one who wanted to stick to the truth? The maverick? Or is he the old toady who panders to any constituency who might give up a single undecided voter? I honestly don't know what his priorities are NOW other than what he is saying NOW. If he's lying about making a political point like that, then I definitely don't want to elect him anyway because the logical conclusion of that is 1) He's potentially alienating the majority of Americans with that stance (60%+ believe Abortion should be a legal option), and 2) He's trying to get elected by lying to the other 40%. Sorry, I'm not comfortable with that. And Senate confirmation hearings? Uhhhhhh...that isn't too much of a check/balance. Not with fillibusters. The Dems need to get a supermajority for me to feel confident about that, and I don't feel confident that is going to happen, though it may come close.
  8. When I started getting an allowance, 10% had to be set aside for the charity of my choice. I went to a Catholic grade school for 5 years, so there were always food drives, soup kitchens, and service projects to be done. High school always had a "Help for the Holidays" toy/food/clothing drive, and community service was a graduation requirement. Like, the community/environment I grew up in put an emphasis on service, so as a result I have no problem whatsoever with a "greater good," "community responsibility" mindset with regards to my political views.
  9. That's fine...I suppose it's the result of a very service-oriented upbringing. To each his/her own.
  10. Yup! What's really funny, though...is I remember Ross Perot and his charts, yet I was only 6.

You originally said "biting," now you're onto KISSING?? Blu, you're just too much...

  15. I disagree, only in that meth is way cheap and many people look for the short term quick fix to all their problems. Quality would go up, for sure, but people would still do it, and it would still be very dangerous. Meth has fast, lasting consequences on a person's cognitive abilities, and it's the lasting deleterious effects that concern me. Plus it really messes with users' teeth, and like any American, I believe in the power of dental work and orthodontics. Agreed. I mean, I think everyone is a little bit ADD...it's really just impulsivity. Some people have ADD, but not anywhere near the numbers as that are prescribed. Agreed. The drugging of Americans is ridiculous...and IMO it unfairly targets males. I mean let's be honest...the US education system is very feminine, with the sitting quietly and being organized while paying rapt attention to the teacher. Young males love to move, be active, and be hands-on with their learning. It's a biological thing. So to thwart biology with drugs...man I don't even want to think about it.

Prefer not to my friend, that's one fantasy we do not share.
  17. Kinda...individual freedom to me connotes less of the "community responsibility" aspect that "civil liberties" connotes IMO. "With freedom comes responsibilities."
  18. We need a chart, and stat!
  19. I'm not whining! I was just kidding around, hence the "lipstick on a Buick"!

I don't want to fight, either! I thought this was just good-natured ribbing!
  21. BACK TO SARAH PALIN (you know, the subject of this thread)...unless you're gonna put lipstick on a Buick?

I'd rather post a wasted post than live a wasted life. What, is "I agree" much better? Deal with it. I'm not going to waste my time being redundant to everyone else's posts.
  23. Cool, you don't want to talk politics, then don't participate in those threads. But the mods have decided that civil political discourse is part of the site. It has nothing to do with "understanding better" or anything like that--the rulemakers have made a ruling, and the lounge is pretty much the place for everything. Obviously we don't talk about porn tastes in the lounge, otherwise it would have to be an 18+ forum. My point is that, fine, for whatever reason you don't think politics is appropriate on this site--fine. That's your opinion and your prerogative to not like that. But you've stated it numerous times, and yet you continue to post caustic remarks towards the people who are contributing to political threads and aren't doing so in violation of site rules. Political threads have to be tagged as (Political) now, so avoid those if they make you uncomfortable. But don't throw static to the people who are participating in those threads, because the mods have decided there's nothing wrong with it.
