  1. I don't agree. A lot of people confuse "ethics" as meaning "morals," which it does not. Think of the flip-side...in some circumstances, not doing business with a party for ideological reasons can sometimes result in discrimination...so it can be a fine line.

    2009 Toyota Avensis

I didn't like the front end of the Cruze at all when it was first unveiled, but now after better pics have been released I really like it a lot. Especially since it really is the first new design for a compact since the J-bodies debuted. The Cobalt was really just a redesigned Cavalier with a name change, design-wise.

    Close call

Then explain the really good Fusion/Milan/MKZ...or any Volvo...or almost any Mazda. Ford has been doing a good job with their product planning IMO, with the only notable f@#kups being the Five Hundred/Taurus and the Montego/Sable vehicles. Those were ill-conceived.

    Close call

Ford did an amazing job with the Explorer and Mountaineer. Those two are among the best SUVs ever built.

    2009 Toyota Avensis

No, because the Cruze has cleaner lines. I think the Avensis is a little overwraught-looking, and as always, I find Toyota's proportions to be just a little "off"--enough to look funny.

    McCain's trend

Thanks for posting the link--I've heard this alluded to, but I haven't been around long enough to really be aware of this. I have some new things to research now...
  7. His insecurity is really quite transparent, huh? Yeah, the Americans really need to build cars that last, like the British...WAITAMINUTE!

    Obama TV?

If you get the reference, you get a virtual, non-phishing cookie!
  9. What hard feelings? The vast majority of those contributing to the CLEARLY MARKED threads are able to do so without getting heated. If YOU are having hard feelings toward the Obama supporters, that's your problem. I honestly don't care how you're going to vote, and certainly haven't lost any respect for you because of the choice you've made known on this site. What WILL start losing respect very rapidly, though, are silly comments about Biden's hair plugs. There are plenty of substantive reasons to vote for either side in this election, or to vote for a third party candidate. There are reasoned economic decisions, reasoned and emotional decisions based on social ideologies, and purely emotional decisions based on other factors. All of those carry some degree of legitimacy, if they are expressed. But just kvetching and whining about any political talk whatsoever on the site is pretty immature IMO. Ummm...I really don't see anyone partaking in the political threads taking any of it to heart as some kind of personal attack. There really isn't much "ganging up" going on, mostly postings of news and commentary with cited sources so the info can be discussed rationally. That leads me to conclude that YOU are having hurt feelings over it. C&G is a community that thrives on mutual respect...and I'm pretty sure that most of the people on here like you as the person you present yourself to be on here on a daily basis. I'm extremely confident in saying that no one is holding your political preference against you personally on here. Political threads are supposed to be labeled in the subject line as such...if you don't like those threads, then stay out and/or don't post them. But I really don't see how it is equitable to ban an entire topic of discussion because a small group of posters can't help but get sore over it. By that logic, if we have a vocal minority who just can't stand Pontiac and think the site would be less contentious without the Pontiac forum, we should cater to them and ban Pontiac discussion since it might disrupt forum harmony. That's ridiculous. Oh, but this is a GM fansite, so the analogy doesn't work! Right? Meh...political talk is in The Lounge, and like it or not, when Big 3 Bailouts, CAFE legislation, union issues, imports/exports, the trading value of the dollar, outsourcing, and global synergies all play such an integral role in the automotive industry...politics and political talk BASED ON ISSUES is pretty much a necessity.
  10. If you can't stand the heat and chaos, get out of the kitchen. That said, there wasn't a (Political) on this thread title.
  11. This is sad...and hopefully it is a small, rogue group. The Jews are my friends.
  12. BV, quit being a flake and REGISTER TO VOTE!! Hope you don't run into too many American Heroes... http://votergasm.com/Pledge.php
  13. No, that's Ron Paul. Stop getting your politicians mixed up or you'll gain a Palin-esque reputation as C&G's resident bimbo
  14. Maybe the regular TrailBlazer drove better than the EXT, but the EXT was awful. What was also surprising was how poor the space-efficiency was compared to the Explorer. With the Explorer, we could fit all of my furniture and suitcases easily in the rear because it was shaped like a big box. In the TB EXT, the rear opening was a lot smaller than the overall rear interior, the cargo area got progressively smaller the farther back it went, the wheel wells intruded terribly, and it was a complete PITA to get the same stuff into it (in EXT form no less!) than in the standard Explorer.
  15. Moltar that is the funniest thing I have seen on this site in AGES...nearly fell out of my chair laughing!!
  16. Because like Warren Buffet has joked about, he pays a 15% tax rate, while many of his employees pay a 35% tax rate. The graphic shows the increase over the current tax structure, so it's basically righting a wrong where the lower and middle, and upper-middle classes were paying a significantly higher rate than the richest of the rich...and THAT's not equitable.
  17. Hey PCS...why can't I send you any PM's?
  18. In that color red, any GMT-360 is. Bravada actually was one of the better-looking ones IMO. Me? I won't miss the 360s. They were so much wasted potential, with great exterior styling...but the interiors were absolute $h!, and they had a lot of electrical gremlins (brake lights not working !!) and poor reliability of basic components (AC, radio, seats, etc). It's absolute piles of $h! like those that almost make me think GM is getting what it deserves right now...but then I remember all the truly good cars it has and continues to build. PS, I had a Trailblazer EXT as a rental for a cross-country trip, and an Explorer for an identical cross-country trip, same model year, same general level of equipment...yea anyone who bought the Trailblazer over the Explorer did so out of massive incentives, or by inserting their head up their rectum.
  19. The spicy fish salad is amazing, but I believe it isn't on the menu. It's fried little fishies in spicy oil and vinegar, and probably something else. The pad thai is good, and they also have this seafood soup that they light on fire. Fried rice is amazing...and yes it is very cheap for the amount of food you get.
  20. Sorry, that's not accurate. Here's what a lot of economists have been publishing:
  21. I forgot my favorite Thai place upthread... Ruem Pair (Thai, Thai Town @ Hollywood & Hobart)
  22. Cheesecake Factory is the only big "upscale" (snort) national chain I like. Now, if you go there and order a damn thing with their pasta, yea, you're getting ripped off. But they have a lot of variety, and quite a bit of good food. Their lettuce wraps are phenominal, and I'm also patial to the avocado egg rolls. The crispy crab wontons aren't good crab rangoons, but I order those and think they taste good since I know not to compare them. Chinese chicken salad is really good, and the fresh turkey sandwich is also fairly good. I forget what else I've tried there, but I've been pleasantly content. O do agree CF has an overabundance of mediocre chicken & pasta dishes that are just so..."middle class" in taste and positioning. At the end of the day, you're paying $18 for a big bowl of pasta and sauce that cost them about $4 to make. It's just really, really bad pasta. And I also agree that the cheesecakes are overrated, but I think there are a few of them that are fairly good. It isn't too difficult to make a better cheesecake than them, but simultaneously, I really don't feel like it's worth the effort when I can go out and get a huge slice of above-average cheesecake that will last me at least 2 days.
  23. Well you know it's like what Panic! at the Disco says... "I'm the new cancer, never looked better and you can't stand it!" I actually thought Biden did very well at dressing down Palin on the whole "Team Maverick" schtick, and otherwise displayed a lot of knowledge of many of the issues that were discussed. I thought Palin's folksy schtick got real old, real fast. A lot of the insta-polls showed Biden decisively won the debate, but I honestly thought it was a draw. Biden is truly a foreign policy guru, so I'm very interested in seeing what/how he will bring to the Vice Presidency. It also helps that he's well versed in the duties of the position he is running for.
  24. Bob, you did NOT just slam Waffle House. I love the Waffle House. I love my smothered, scattered, diced, covered, and capped hash browns. Another good restaurant in LA: Blossom (Vietnamese, Downtown @ 4th & Main)
  25. Best pizza chain (regional): Donatos ----------------------- I love this thread...I'm such a food snob. Here are some of my picks in the LA area: Chosun Galbee (Korean, Koreatown @ Western & Olympic) R23 (Sushi, Warehouse District @ 2nd & Santa Fe) Roscoe's House of Chicken & Waffles (Soul Food, various locations) Mama D's (Italian, Manahattan Beach @ Manhattan Beach & Manhattan) 888 Seafood (Chinese-HK, Rosemead @ Valley & Walnut Grove) CBS Seafood (Chinese-Cantonese, Chinatown @ Spring & Ord) Phillipe's the Original (French Dip/Cafeteria, Chinatown @ Ord & Alameda) The Larchmont Grill (American, NoHo @ Melrose & Globe) Coyote Grill (Southwestern, Laguna Beach @ PCH & 2nd) Gyu Kaku (Japanese, various locations) Gladstone's (Seafood, Malibu @ PCH & Sunset) The Hat (Fast Food/Pastrami, various locations) In-N-Out (Fast Food/American, various locations) Fatburger (Fast Food/American, various locations) Robek's (Smoothies, various locations) Pinkberry (Froyo, various locations)
