  1. Do automakers expect all their buyers to lease their cars now? That seems stupid when you think about it.
  2. I hope so. I will know when EVs are truly mainstream when the used car market is flooded with ICE cars when people consistently trade those in for BEV cars. Ideally BEV cars start at $20K, not $35-40K.
  3. This is good news. In order for a BEV to defeat ICE, the energy density problem Must Be Solved to the point where ICE becomes uneconomical (or at least makes ICE look expensive). Imagine your next vehicle having all the conveniences of ICE but it is battery powered. No more gas station visits. Much less routine maintenance (especially fluid changes!). And hopefully: lower prices than ICE. Most people cannot afford to BUY (not lease) a new car because the median price is almost $40K. I think we as consumers deserve a break; how about $28K instead? I do hope that these solid state batteries will lead to lower prices and push ICE out of the used car market for good.
  4. $100K for this (nearly) new Bronco? That would only be acceptable for a fully loaded brand new Escalade. NO way am I paying that much when I should buy THREE of those at MSRP.
  5. If FORD can have an F150 approaching $75K, why can't Toyota? It was not that long ago where $75K was Lincoln (and MB/BMW/Audi) territory.
  6. Is it really a good thing to be #1 in shrinking segments? I think not. I have no idea when the crossover thing will pass or whether it is long-term trend, but I am not sure whether Toyota wants to be in shrinking segments. Remember: the Avalon dies after this model year.
  7. Being the sales leader in any market makes you a target for all other competitors. Now Toyota faces what GM had to deal with for nearly a century: everyone is nipping at its heels. The leader makes a few wrong decisions judging the future of the marketplace and everyone else pounces on their mistakes one way or another. Toyota can probably shift from hydrogen to full EV since they have their hybrid lines have taught them a whole lot about the technology and what it takes to deliver. This is NOT GM of the 1970s and 1980s, where GM was struggling to contain and defeat Toyota and Honda in competition for Boomer buyers. GM lost a LOT of market share from 1968-2009 (about 1 percentage point per year), which allowed Toyota to surpass them on the sales sheets. EVs to the left, with Hyundai/KIA to the right, Toyota looks like they might be squeezed if they are not careful. If Toyota's days at number 1 are numbered, that may not be a bad thing. If they lost the prize of being the number one sales leader, that would allow Toyota to focus on making the best vehicles, not just merely moving the metal. Is GM in better shape now, or in 2004 when they ended Oldsmobile, with the last one off the assembly line as an Alero? GM has not been in as good of shape in at least 15 years or more than right now. And some of that is AFTER it lost the #1 title to Toyota. Toyota fears being surpassed by cheaper competitors AND better products that fit tomorrow's markets better than what is currently on offer. Imagine if FORD or GM had a true Tacoma killer. Imagine if FORD or GM had an EV that renders the Prius line completely obsolete, at prices Toyota cannot or will not match. New competitors will give Toyota executives some sleepless nights. In a competitive environment, NO LEAD is safe from being surpassed. Ever. Just ask GM.
  8. This is just great. You made my day.
  9. Unfortunately, these Hummers will be matching Tesla in pricing (like Tesla X pricing). Other than that, things are looking up for GM in this department. I wonder how long it will take for all this tech to filter down to the price of a base model Chevy Trax or Equinox.
  10. I do hope that the casualties do not match the proportions of the Spanish Flu of 1918-19.
  11. I never thought that Toyota would end the V8 on BOTH the Lexus LS and the Tundra. I wonder if they will end the V8 on the 4 Runner/Lexus LX. That is possible and would be rather sad if they do. So why can't FORD/GM/Dodge defeat Toyota in the midsize pickup segment, here or elsewhere? I do not think that this new Tundra is as competitive as Toyota thinks it is.
  12. Who thought that this yoke would make a good steering wheel? It belongs on an aircraft, not a car. Bring on NHTSA and the lawsuits.
  13. I doubt that Tesla yoke makes it to production.
  14. You are right. The Bolt is simply much too small to replace an Impala or Fusion. A BEV Equinox would be a better replacement.
  15. Car interiors for decades have either been cheap, forgettable or lame. Only in the last 10-15 years have interiors actually improved to the point where you actually see a car as more than just a transport device. By today's standards, no car built prior to 2002 is even worthy of praise for its interior. Virtually all car interiors were cheap and often forgettable for a very long time. We should enjoy what cars are offering us NOW because a lot of us remember what car interiors have been: cheap, forgettable, lame or a combination of the three, regardless of automaker.
  16. What are the differences between LFP and NCA batteries?
  17. What I find SAD is that GM essentially pushed a lot of their traditional customers (those who bought RWD B-bodies and RWD G-bodies) out in favor of those who wanted FWD (J-bodies, N-bodies, FWD A-bodies, the U-body minivans) and it still did not save GM from losing a lot of market share from Toyota and Honda. If GM had made a modern RWD sedan for Buick and Olds and Pontiac in 1990 (and hopefully sooner than what we received in the new GTO/G8/Chevy SS), maybe GM could have saved itself from now about 20% market share (and perhaps bankruptcy). Now it is all CUVs and more CUVs. I suspect that I may replace the Lucerne with that new Envision they have out now, given that no one buys sedans anymore. The fact that many car magazines were a little too enthusiastic for European sports sedans and Japanese ones too (for years!) is a sad development. Then again, does anyone read those anymore without looking at other sources?
  18. And when Elvis died, he was carried out in a hearse that looked A LOT LIKE that Cadillac wagon.
  19. A lot of our problems can be safely boiled down to a LOT of poor management and a lack of leadership, and not just in business.
  20. I have no anger about this issue at all. I just wanted to know if selling these high-performance vehicles are bringing in more customers who end up buying a CUV instead of a Camaro or a Mustang. Thanks.
  21. Does the cray cray factor convince customers to go into a GM showroom and buy a crossover instead of the competition? If not, then the halo car effect may have been diminished beyond detection.
  22. Wow. Ford cannot build profitable cars in India. Yet it might move an entire back office to India instead. A Sad Day for Dearborn.
  23. Mercedes needs a new naming scheme for their EVs. And a design language that is not so pitiful/ugly.
  24. Imagine an upgraded Amtrak (or any train-type public transportation) doing just that in the United States.
  25. I hope that they ditch the yellow; it is truly disgusting. The more important question is whether Genesis can actually make more sales (than currently) going full EV in only a decade.
