  1. I've stayed out of this, because even while I prefer a V8 over a 4 or 6, I believe evok is right. Most customers dont care about the number of cylinders, as long as it delivers the power and efficiency they want. The V8 won't completely die, they will still be in trucks, and sports cars, and high performance versions of cars like the 300C and Impala SS. But for the normal passenger cars, the V6 will rule the day. Since I'm not a normal passenger car kind of guy, it doesn't really bother me too much.
  2. I'm a Pontiac enthusiast, but I wouldn't mind if some, or all of those things were changed, as long as they are changed for the better, and don't change Pontiac into another generic brand. GM needs to define a specific role Pontiac is supposed to be, and only give Pontiac cars that fit that role. If thats performance, then GM would need to cut every car Pontiac has except the GTO and Solstice, and even then, the styling needs to be more aggressive for both.
  3. Camaro SS got 13.3 in 2002. The GT500 doesn't even need to be benchmarked.
  4. I saw a black STS-V parked near my work the other day, that car looks amazing. So does the XLR-V I saw near my work the day before. If I had the money I'd buy an STS-V.
  5. I don't know exactly how much it would need to be modified, it may need to be slightly modified(just the exhaust) or it may need to be modified more(the RWD Northstar was almost completed reworked), but either way, why modify it at all, when the 3.6 is ready to go in a RWD car?
  6. Well if GM does it right, it will work. I don't think we will be seeing the 3.9 in RWD cars. The 3.6 is already used in RWD cars, and nothing will need to be modified. The 3.9 however, is not used in any RWD cars, and would need to be modified.
  7. They cant be a volume brand, and they basically aren't anymore anyway. They are volume due to fleet sales only. I think GM knows Saturn is going to attract some current Pontiac buyers. The Aura will take G6 sales, the Astra will definately take G5 sales. Pontiac should alienate some buyers, so those buyers will go to Saturn. Then Pontiac could start with a new buyer base, who buy on performance.
  8. It's not safe to stay in the house here with no a/c. I was staying at my brothers house for a few days, and his a/c broke. It was 95 in his house, at midnight!! He got a hotel and stayed in the hotel until his a/c was fixed. The highest temp I have seen here is 118. I burnt my arm on the seatbelt buckle in my brothers 72 Buick Electra.
  9. It's actually pretty nice out here right now. 10pm and 75 degrees. Though day time is still 100+, and it is supposed to be 110 next weekend. But that will feel nice when I go jet skiing at the lake on Sunday.
  10. Or better yet, call it Tempest, or even keep the name Grand Prix. Lets keep the GTO name on true coupes only. Then have a car above that, and call it Bonneville.
  11. Imagine how nice a car the 97-03 Grand Prixs would have been with RWD and a manual.
  12. I really hope that is what happens. I don't think Pontiac will be losing that many sales with the switch to RWD. Retail sales, not fleet sales. The only reason Pontiac has the volume it still does is due to fleet sales. I'm guessing their true sales are only 300,000. I think that can be matched even being all RWD/AWD, and at higher prices. This is exciting!!!! GM. Don't forget one key element while doing this, Manual transmissions for all sizes/engines/trim levels.
  13. Wasn't me, I'm in Arizona. I've seen a few that look exactly like mine, since all of the pace car replicas are the same color, and all coupes. So there should be 1499 other Grand Prixs out there that look the same. I'm planning on painting it midnight blue though, because I don't like how mine looks green under certain lights.
  14. Actually, to get more power out of the smaller engine, it would have to be more complex. The 3.6L DI VVT DOHC V6 engine is supposed to make around 300hp, which doesn't even match GMs relatively low tech 5.3L V8 with 320hp.
  15. Or.... Spit, Spoon Fit
  16. V8s wont be needed much outside of luxury cars, sports cars and trucks. Though I wish they would just make smaller v8s like 3.5L-4L, with VVT, DI, DOHC, to take the place of big V6s.
  17. $600 will definately not get you a good paint job. $1500 minimun for a decent quality paint job, even on a car in great shape. Changing the color will just push the price up higher, because you will need to get the door jams and engine compartment painted to match.
  18. Then GM will have almost 5 times more retirees than workers. Imagine if GM had no retirees and could use all that money on developing cars. GM basically just has to last until they start dying off, how long would that take?
  19. Since we are looking at 63 Impalas, heres the one in front of my house now:
  20. Headers ($700) Cat back exhuast ($300) Adapter to connect my laptop to my car for tuning ($400) Paint ($400) 2.25 inch Lowering springs ($250) Bigger fuel injectors ($350) 2.8" pulley ($50) 2001 Daytona edition spoiler ($200) race heads ($1700) then spend whats left over one wheels/tires
  21. Will we get the 3 door hatch then? I hope so.
  22. Well my point was just that the 5.3(or it's replacement) would be available to use in the Camaro since it's not only a FWD engine.
  23. Is this in addition to the $1500 I just spent? Or including it?
  24. But the 5.3L in the Tahoe is RWD, though I dont believe its coded as LS4. The 5.3 was made for RWD, then adapted to FWD, so it's not a FWD only engine.
  25. .520 intake lift, .536 exhaust lift, 105lb springs, and 160 drilled themostat. I got the smaller intercooler(1 inch core instead of 2.25 inch core) due to price, and for easier installation. When all is done, I'll be $1400 poorer, and will have added close to 100hp to my car. Shorly after, I will get it dynoed, then take it to the dragstrip. I'm hoping for mid-low 13s.
