  1. Or to the 2.8L V6 in general? It gets the same fuel economy with less horsepower/torque. Supposedly it's the same size on the outside and costs about the same to make anyway. Which makes me wonder why they use the turbocharged 2.8 in the Saabs and why not just the 3.6. Is it just to say, "look, it's turbocharged!"
  2. I wonder which plants they will close.
  3. I was wondering what vehicles they would have the plant make in the Trailblazer/Envoy's stead. But now that so many people have left GM, my guess is that they will just close the plant.
  4. According to Thomas Friedman, GM is secretely building a nuclear bomb, with which destroy the NY Times building in NYC and Friedman along with... As well as most of New York City. The work for the bomb has been outsourced to cheap Mexican labor, adding insult to injury for the American worker.
  5. Isuzu just steals sales away from GM. No need for them in America.
  6. Actually Bob Lutz wanted to can the CTS after he came to GM. It's swift sales shut him up on that.

I really like how they've integrated the bumpers into the body of the truck. This thing is probably the most aerodynamic full size truck ever. After I saw this, everything else on the market just looks outdated, including the upcoming Toyota. Attractive + Functional = teh win
  8. Wow, that is some of the worst looking wood I've ever seen in my life. Exterior: 7/10 (the look from the back is better than the front) Interior: 5/10 (overall bland layout, unimpressive materials)
  9. The O.C. takes any opportunity he gets to dump on GM cars, whether he has "facts" or not.
  10. How much money is GM making in China? A profit of $500 million there is not going to turn around losses in the billions here in America where half their business is.
  11. Maybe in your lame state. Here it's 65 and everyone drives 70+. In many nearby states, it's 70.
  12. http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drive...rticleId=115799 It looks like they went out of their way to drive it as softly as possible, to maximize fuel economy and make Toyota look good (or at least, not as bad) for once again delivering a vehicle that gets no where near it's promised gas mileage. Who drives at 60 mph on the expressway? That's below the speed limit on most interstate highways. Here in Ohio, most people whizz by at 70, and people say this is a state full of slow drivers. If they were testing - say - GM's new hybrid the Saturn Vue Green Line, I'd bet you money they would floor the acceleration at each traffic light, and push it at 80+ on the expressway, just so they could later moan about the fuel economy figures. Or look at this way: they drove it like a 90 year old penny pinching grandma with slow reflexes and they got 32.6 mpg. If you drive it like a normal 25 something guy, what kind of fuel economy do you think you'll manage.
  13. GM continues to post impressive fuel economy numbers with their OHV's. Their DOHC's on the other hand could use some help. Pretty amazing that the Chevrolet Aveo (24/34) gets marginally better fuel economy than the huge Impala (20/29). Something there ain't right.
  14. Wow, looking at those numbers, things were definitely a lot more volatile back in those days.
  15. Maybe they used to say BOF is safer because the first cars because BOF vehicles are typically big trucks and the biggest of cars, whereas unibody vehicles are smaller. But in that Ford Crown Victoria, the body has come off the frame which is dangerous.
  16. It's much improved. The rest of the CTS and SRX interior is good, but the central stack is controversial. The new stack, which seems to borrow the layout of the BLS without borrowing its parts, is excellent.
  17. Food in America is cheap, perhaps more cheap than it should be. Foreigners always comment that the restraunt portions here are gigantic, maybe 2-3 times the size of what you get in Europe and about 1/2 to 1/3 the cost. That's because the raw material cost of the food is almost nothing. Perhaps it would do the country a bit of good to see food prices go up, seeing that obesity and heart disease are huge public health problems. And for those who can't afford food, there are always food stamps.
  18. I'm not sure I agree with your assessment. A currency's value is largely dictated by a nation's long term trade surplus/deficit. America's persistent trade deficits (much of it driven by oil imports), have caused the value of the USD to plummet. This is because Americans are demanding more foreign currency to buy imports and foreigners are demanding less American dollars to buy American exports. Now for a long time America was able to cheat this, because as you stated the U.S. dollar is used by a lot of other countries. In Panama it's the national currency. In Russia, they use USD on the black market because their own currency is volatile. And many international trades are conducted in dollars because it's popular, stable currency. These all increase demand for dollars by foreigners. But the persistent trade deficits of America have finally led to a decline in the dollar's value, something that is not likely to change anytime soon. Also if we start substituting a small amount of ethanol for oil in this country, that has very little bearing on oil trading by other countries. Most countries aren't developing ethanol as a fuel source.
  19. Hehe.. You got a lot to learn kid. Having a girl smile at you and make a bit of chit chat doesn't mean she'll go out with you. Though it doesn't hurt to ask. But even getting their phone number amounts to nothing aboutr 75% of the time.
  20. Ugghhh... Keep that $h! in Europe. I like the $30,000 CTS just fine as Cadillac's base car. Not every brand needs to be all things to all people.
  21. I just have a hard time belieiving there's suddenly no market for truck based mid-sized SUVs.
  22. This is going to create a $h! storm, with the union and the need to keep the factory running... As well as the need to placate dealers with product. We could end up with a bunch of lame rebadges, just to keep these parties happy. I'm not saying it's a bad idea to can the mid-size SUVs, it's just a bad idea to can something this late. This is a decision they should have made a while ago.
  23. Even in the New York City area not that many people read the NY Times. Maybe 50 years ago, the foreign correspondents of the NY Times set the standard for journalism in America. But it hasn't been a leader in journalism for some time, although it seems to think of itself that way. It basically is what people mistakenly accuse GM of being: caught up in its past, and unable to realize its current place in the world.
  24. Evok was saying that the DTS and STS are being merged, onto a Sigma platform car that's a bit bigger than the current STS. In that case it would be made in Michigan on the same line as the CTS. Now I don't know which insider to believe.
  25. Volkswagen has really good transmission technology. I've been thinking that maybe GM should license some of the Audi CVT's for use in their own lineup.
