Cadillac News: Spying: 2020 Cadillac XT6 Makes Its Spy Photo Debut
G. David Felt replied to William Maley's topic in Cadillac
I will say that right now, the comfort in the latest Escalade seats does not compare to my 2006 Escalade ESV Platinum. Thin seats are questionable for comfort. Road noise, tires play a big part and I understand the chart you posted for Sound DB, but having new Escalades to drive when I get service, it is really hard to justify spending another 100K on an SUV where the seats are not that comfy and noise level is not really any different. -

Nope for local driving she loves the Trailblazer SS and for Road trips, you cannot get more comfortable and quiet than an Escalade. -
I agree that while I am not a fan of hood ornaments, I do love a good quality hood medallion. I hope they do make a come back, but I have to wonder if they will due to EV auto's. Course it could be set into the hood so it flows smoothly. A quality Hood Medallion would be awesome to have.

One, the wife likes things silent, so noises that irritate her end up being taken out on me the husband. Put yourself in my shoes, the turbo noises wear on you then when the wife is not happy. For me, I like a tuned tail pipe, but many of the Turbo engines are noisy and that does when you like to go for long drives becomes very wearing on you. As much as I love cadillacs, the ATS Turbo 4 loaner I had from them when they serviced my SS I took for a long drive and while it handles really well and on a fun windy road you get great performance, the noise from the engine tends to drone and becoming tiring. Just like some people are sensitive to 60 Hz fluorescent light flicker, I hear all the noises in an auto. Some I like others, just wear on you. Turbo's are one that wear on me. -
@ocnblu Here is a low cost SUV option for you.

Considering this was out if memory serves me right before the Turbo V6 was available, I would not be surprised to see a turbo show up in the XT5 for the new model year. -

Driven them in fords, Chevy, Cadillac. The only turbo 4 that I like and seems to do well is the Buick Envision. Even then, if I could I would still take an NA V6 over it in the Buick too. I will also say that in thinking on this, I am not a fan of the excessive carbon soot you see out of the tail pipes on Turbos compared to NA engines. -
Very cool how well these handle in the snow.

Seems Mercedes-Benz Maybach SUV photo's leaked in China and while some in China are saying Daring and beautiful, I have to say GROSS! https://jalopnik.com/the-vision-mercedes-maybach-ultimate-luxury-suv-is-way-1825413827

Yes they are too and still I would take a NA V6 over them. Initial WOW this is cool, spool up and go, but after a while, when you have been driving a turbo 4 banger, it just wears on you and you want a nice quiet but constant pulling engine and the NA V6 gives you that. -
Seems the head of Porsche PowerTrain has been arrested and the pictures in the story link below are amazing of the 80,000 plus cars at the Victorville storage lot in California. Crazy! https://www.autoblog.com/2018/04/20/porsche-powertrain-chief-arrested-vw-diesel-scandal/#slide-7292321

ev cuv Camaro or Mustang EV CUV?
G. David Felt replied to G. David Felt's topic in Electric Vehicles and Alternative Fuels
I would agree with you that they are not grand or perfect, but since both Ford and Chevrolet seem to feel they need an EV version for their pony lines and it needs to be a CUV, I can see why they are doing it to capture and retain their customers. Remember, some peeps here have said Corvette needs a CUV version too. -

Take that over some of the Turbo 4 bangers the germans are putting in their auto's. -
I have liked the Bridgestone tires I had on my SS that replaced the terrible Goodyears, but in researching the tires and comparing them. Bridgestone only sipes their tire to the 50% tread level and you end up loosing considerable traction. The Michelin defenders I have on the SS now are siped down to the 10% mark with a sipe inner lock to give maximum traction while giving what I have come to respect as superior snow / rain handling. Michelin to me is still a gold standard and the rebates that Costco, Discount Tires and La Schwab have had on them got them into price equal to the Bridgestone tires that Cadillac uses as OEM on the current SUV/CUV auto's. So this is why I went with Michelin and been very happy.

Have to disagree, I have had Goodyear on Chevrolets to Jeeps and especially my Escalade which it was OEM standard on. The tires especially on Concrete scream noise. Worse yet is get them in a parking garage with polished cement and they scream on top of groaning in pain with just gentle turns. I have never had this with Michelin, Bridgestone or BF Goodrich tires on my auto's. Have to pass on anything from Goodyear. Not impressed.

Cadillac News: Spying: 2020 Cadillac XT6 Makes Its Spy Photo Debut

Yet MB does this with cheap plastic ass versions of their own cars. What is wrong with a company using a standard platform to build unique auto's for their product lines? Luxury, Mid and Entry level products. This is SMART Management. -
ev cuv Camaro or Mustang EV CUV?
G. David Felt posted a topic in Electric Vehicles and Alternative Fuels
Camaro or Mustang EV CUV? We have heard from Ford that an EV auto will be part of their auto lineup and that a Mustang AWD EV could be part of that lineup. Ford also stated that the mustang name could make it onto a CUV or at least something other than the traditional 2 door pony car. They have pretty much stated that this would be a Mach1 Mustang Based EV SUV. Fast forward a few month to the Chevrolet Dealership meeting where many things were shown off to them and slipping out to a forum from an attendee was that they were shown a performance EV crossover with similarity to a Camaro. Is GM following Ford and planning to have a Performance Camaro CUV? Pulling from Motor1 and thoughts from InsideEV we end up with the following potential CUV like versions of a Camaro & Mustang. Seems 2020 is going to be an exciting EV year with options that many never had before in their lifetime. What are your thoughts on these potential EV Concepts / Production versions? Interesting hood bump on this mule. Expect SMK to complain that this is another rebadge Chevy / GMC / Buick while he praises his MB as luxury first. Gonna be an interesting auto to see what they really put into it. Hopefully a first rate interior with the Family Style. Should do really good as a fit between the XT5 and Escalade. I do agree with Car & Driver that the TT V6 would and should show up in this XT6 or 7 whatever they call it. What I do not get is why do the car site both think it will be with an 8sp tranny and not have the 10sp that GM helped create? Right now, Cadillac should have the top end Tranny and motors in all their auto's. 10 sp everything with Turbo this and that and NA engines as base. -
Agree Goodyear was good in the past, suck today, never have heard a new Goodyear that did not scream bloody murder on cement. Michelin are just awesome, quiet and long lasting tires. Plus they rock in snow and rain.

@balthazar Thought you would find this interesting, EV conversion on a 1957 Ford Fairlane and how the company the paid for this made sure to keep the core of the auto intact. Conversion gave this classic 228 HP and 391 LB-FT of torque. A considerable improvement over the factory OEM Power train. http://www.thedrive.com/news/19540/if-electric-cars-are-the-future-what-about-our-classics At the end is an interesting EV conversion on a Jaguar E-Type

Buick News: Buick Velite 6 To Come In Plug-In and Electric Flavors
G. David Felt replied to William Maley's topic in Buick
Very Cool info on this, I was wondering about it when I posted the pic above in the Buick Enspire thread. Thanks Bill, -
OUCH, OUCH, OUCH With that said, I can see the VW family of auto products making a fast change to EV to build a new auto image. Gas, Hybrid and EV is VW product family portfolio clearly. Diesel is dead with this company.
