Random Thoughts Thread
Decided to put this here instead of the Hornet thread (since that's where it started but was diverting from the subject of the Hornet). My last Toyota. 1996 RAV 4, FWD, Auto. Bought it March 2016 with 252K miles on it. It was purely my "beater car" to get to work and back. I sold it December 28th, 2019 with 267K miles on it. Clearly, I did not drive it much. It sat outside in my driveway in Peoria, AZ (Robert knows lol) all those years (no room in the garage lol) with ZERO window tint. The car spent its first 17 years or so of its life somewhere in Davids neck of the woods (according to CarFax). The rest, it spent in 120 in summer Phoenix, AZ, which was at seven years by the time I sold it. These pics are of that very RAV 4 and while the paint was faded six ways from Sunday, the body and frame were both solid and NOT ONE crack in the dash (or anywhere else for that matter), headliner droop, or otherwise faded material (save for the seat fabric of course). But yeah, that Toyota quality and reliability was soooo overrated. I just don't get why millions buy them every year. ? (As he tips out for the night)

Dodge News: The 2023 Dodge Hornet Packs 285 HP and a PowerShot Boost
As a former owner of four different Toyotas, and host of other makes, I will respectfully disagree with the Toyota assessment here. Next, someone is going to tell me that Fiats are better than Toyotas and I’m just not ready to laugh that hard.

That was just one example @Drew Dowdell. It is still true and has been since day one, which is 10000% intellectually honest and it’s a bit insulting to imply that is not happening here. The parts are higher than average and a bitch to get in a timely manner. It’s really that simple and it is one of the reasons why Fiat and Alfa have been a big ole fail here. And I’m not talking about just spark plugs either.

Global or not, they do not carry the majority of replacement parts here. They have to be shipped in which leads to delays. This is from a Fiat 500 group talking about that very thing. https://www.fiat500owners.com/threads/love-my-fiat-but-hard-to-find-parts.119153/

That can be said for every SUV out there (the mall crowd). However, calling it underrated or otherwise trying to diminish it comes without facts. They are proven off-road SUVs worldwide. It’s not even debatable. They have a resale value that reflects it reliability and durability so it really doesn’t need any further explanation (something it shames Land Rover on). It just doesn’t. For the record, you’ll find old FJs and LCs in the AZ desert, hitting the dusty trails there. And you folks keep bagging on the Tacoma/Tundra examples from 20 years gap as some secret indicator that Toyotas are $h! because of them. I am more than happy to bring up the “quality” stuff from GM and Ford from that same time period if you’d like but we will run out of pages here doing that lol.

While it’s true that there are delays for everyone, there is a big caveat here and that is once those worldwide delays are done, there will still be parts delays from Alfa and Fiat, much like Land Rover. The parts are made there and only there and will be delayed getting here for that very reason. That’s an issue for most folks, especially with a notorious pile from Italy. Come on man. It’s still a Trailblazer, end of story. That Vette heritage does not change the source material here.

And that means what exactly @Drew Dowdell? I can search for a bunch of class action suits against otherwise supposedly dependable vehicles. Ford, alone, has countless suits from F Series owners. Does that make them junk or unreliable? Maybe. Maybe not. Bringing up this one suit doesn’t change what I said earlier about Toyota OVERALL (an important distinction). “Lol” indeed. And I guess I lied when I said I was done but that merited at least one last response.

I’ve lived here most of my life and those are not “southern survivors”. Those are actually pretty typical around here. If you’re going bring up the rust issues, then it should be noted that those were only on early 2000 model Tacomas and Tundras. The LC and LX twins had no such reported issues and neither did the 4-Runner. It should be further noted that most 20 year trucks from the domestics suffered the same issues so there is that to consider as well. Again, compare them to other makes and models of those years and you’ll see how overblown these claims really are. That’s all I’m going to say about it. I will gladly put a neglected 20 year old 4-Runner against any neglected Explorer or Trailblazer. We can act like it doesn’t exist, Toyota reliability, but that doesn’t make it so. Again, not saying they’re perfect but it is damn near laughable to act like they haven’t earned this reputation for long term reliability.

Going to have to interject a bit of this one. Are Toyotas perfect? Absolutely not. However, this bunk about old busted models deserve a retort. Here is a 2003 Lexus LX 470 with 203K miles (low for that year) and I see none of the issues that you seem to think they suffer. https://charlotte.craigslist.org/ctd/d/charlotte-2004-lexus-lx470-loaded-best/7523321702.html And try another almost 20 year old LX. No headlight yellowing. No cracked dash and this also has more than 200K miles so it’s not Ike either of these were babied. https://greensboro.craigslist.org/ctd/d/greensboro-2003-lexus-lx-470/7517568006.html I can find quite a few near 20 year 4-Runners that will shame the Trailblazer and Explorers of those years (mostly because you’ll find more left actually running after all this time). I get the criticisms but most are way overblown.

It’s cute how you pass off the $70K as an insult while now dismissing HP numbers and 0-60 times. Strange how that wasn’t a consideration just a few months ago.

It should be noted that the previous credits had expired a month or so ago. The new bill extends that so it's still a valid number to count against the price.

Um, unprecedented inflation will do that. It’s also $46K and don’t forget it now qualifies for the $7500 EV credit as part of the IRA bill passed this week.

While it's a much needed addition for Dodge in a much needed to compete in market, I have a major issue with this. Now, take this with a grain of salt and understand this is just my lowly opinion, but all the people who gave GM and Ford absolute hell for badge engineering in the past, better lay it on heavy here because, if it did not say Dodge on it and not have the Dart like headlight/grill treatment, I'd never guess this was anything other than a crappy Alfa. Just a big ole' "meh" from me lol.

And again @smk4565, it is simply baffling how you keep focusing on just HP and weight like there aren’t at least a dozen other factors there that you have willfully ignored up to this point.

So which is it? Model 3 or Model S Plaid? And who, other than you, would EVER compare a four door ANYTHING to a mid-engine coupe? Your argument is literally all over the place.
-
Hyundai News:Performance Cars Dead? Not According to Hyundai's N Brand EVs
It proves nothing unless you want to remember that your average ICE (even from the Germans) is $h! on that track without all the adjustments mentioned for the Tesla (suspension, tires, etc). Just pure faulty logic there.

Again, ignoring important and relevant facts in order to save face and move that bar once more.

So freakin what? The error is on MT then since it was their words. You, on the other hand, were still wrong as only stated M5 while the above is an M5 CS. Details matter I’m afraid.
