  9. While the 1.8 was gutless, GM could have saved some cash by making this the base engine and doing a nicer turbo (1.8/2.0 Sound good) for the upper trim levels. People tend to drive the poop out of the compact cars anyways, and while the Corolla may be boring, that 1.8 in it runs a long time. Sadly I’ve seen some lease Cruzes come back to the dealerships after a lease with turbos in sad shape after 30k miles. I find turbos simple can’t handle abuse like an NA engine can....most folks are quite hard on cars.... Too bad that I like the Malibu RS , but I simply can’t justify the wimpy 1.5 in it.... Thanks to early this year, there is a good chance I will buy our two leased Turbo’d cars now ( Nox and Trax), but only because I take care of the turbos, and figure with care they will last a while. Plus the buyouts are cheap... ?

  11. The only real downside of those were the turbos....only good I’d folks took care of them.. The 1.8 was a great engine though. Other than that, pretty good cars. Also had nice seats for a compact car. Not really sure why compacts are going away when they will come back as budget EVs......

  14. I have to agree there.....even the base model prices are getting silly.... And I’ve noticed in MI that the insurance really did not get cheaper on July 1st either.......

  19. You would be very right. At this point, both Ford and GM are not planning to put any products in any shows any time soon. I know Ford is looking to have little “interactive” displays for curious folk for some future Ford EVs (Mustang E, F 150 EV) for folks to look, touch and feel around the metro Detroit area. This allows people who are actually invested in it a chance to see them before they head out to the public. Much cheaper to use either their local campus or a cheap outdoor venue to show these off.. The days of the auto show is dead...as are most major shows. About the only major one that might survive when be the electronics show........

  21. Thoughts to some of this: No small small cars will be sold here in the US. I can tell you that now. Fiat is already dead, we saw that coming anyways... The old guard platform cars are not going anywhere- there are still updates and some new stuff down the pipeline. These 3 still have enough of a following to keep them for a good while. Besides, they are nearly retro cars anyways... ? . Ram of course will be fine. Jeep looks like it too may skip the small/ sub stuff as well. Sounds like the baby Jeep is in danger of being dropped, as Jeep wants to focus on their core products, and sell them all over the world. A few less models actually makes this easier, though they are adding the Jeep Wagoneer..... Alfa is a tough one. I like them, and they are getting kinda a Saab like following (know a few that have one-love it) so they should hang around at least a while to see where things go......

  23. I usually try not not to get too crazy about tires.... I do love the set of Michelins on my Equinox though. So much so I will throw on another set if I do keep the car. Really makes the drive smooth on these cars. If not, maybe a set of BFGs, which is still in the Michelin family... Also impressed with the Goodyears on the Cobalt. Let’s be honest, almost anything would be better than the stock tires... ? . I’ve had Sumitomos, Coopers, and now the Goodyears. The Sumis were so so, but the Cooper CS5s handled and wore well. The Goodyears take bumps really well, and they handle nice too. We will see on wear though... I’ve had good luck with Cooper, Michelin, Goodyear and General. Some good choices out there.....
