I expect this kind of vehicle has one of the same problems as the EV1... it's so quiet that the driver starts hearing all the other squeeks & rattles that were previously covered up by even the most quiet engine. Fuel cell vehicles, if they happen (I hope so) will make todays standards of "fit and finish" look cheap and petty... lol 100 is the largest fleet? I mean, it's a good start, but c'mon! And 50Kmi isn't exactly confidence inspiring, though understandable for a test product, I guess. 'course if it's like most GM product, what it's engineered to do and what it does are 2 different things, and it'll keep on chugging.
  2. I saw it in person at the Indiana State Fair. Good looking vehicle. I didn't have a camera with me though, and we were in a hurry to get home, so I didn't get to look at it much. A friend that was with me that's usually all about "if it's not a Ford, it's junk" can't wait for the Outlook to come out, so he can look it over closer and consider buying one.

  4. should use less fuel when coasting in gear than idling. When in gear, the momentum of the car keeps the engine turning, so it doesn't have to feed the engine much if any gas. Idling requires fuel to keep the engine turning.
  5. *edit* - got owned, doh! That looks pretty sweet. The H3 has grown on me. I like the dimensions & style, and I like that it at least seems to be pretty rugged & durable (not sure how much of that is just image & marketing, though...), and it gets halfway respectable fuel economy... I guess. I'd still buy a car-based SUV, myself, since I have no need for off-roady stuff, and I'm a tightwad. lol

  10. I pretty much disagree with the entire original post. And Pontiac does need RWD. If Pontiac isn't going to be re-focused into a performance brand, then GM might as well put them on the chopping block.

  14. Yup, this replaces the Ion. I don't think they've said what model(s) they'll send over. Personally, I think having both a wagon and 5-door is overkill, and would say Saturn should have the wagon of the 2, since Saturn has had wagons before, and it would help with getting repeat buyers. You lose some looks, but gain utility. Pesonally, I'd like a 3-door. Well, I own a 3-door SC1, but that's a different 3-door.
  15. I think this interior is absolutely beautiful, and I'm not sure that that area brushed would look as good - might push toward overkill on the brushed surfaces. *shrug* Just my opinion. I don't mind the non-integrated units, either, because it just makes it so much easier for aftermarket stereo options. I hate to think what a dash adapter kit would cost for a whole new integrated facia with a brushed look.
  16. I work assembly on those CAT engines. Some 3300 and 3400, but mostly 3500, and 3600's on the other side of a wall from my area. Some big freakin' engines. Don't feel bad about working for Toyota - it's a good career move to get experience with them. CAT would look good on a resume, too.
  17. I don't think they intend to produce this, but it's more meant to push the concept & technology closer to where they could. Even if the fuel cell technology were perfect & ready to go, the skateboard chassis concept would require TONS of testing to ensure that it's safe, reliable, etc, etc. This isn't a new regular vehicle they're working on - it's a whole new concept that changes a lot of the rules when thinking about cars. Such a change requires tests, more tests, rework, and more rework, and takes huge amounts of time. Better that they do that then give us exploding cars.

Yesterday as I was sitting at work before my shift began, I saw an article in the paper about how GM was trying to get Ford to get rid of their old ads that claimed that their 5yr/60,000mi warranty was the "best of any full-line auto maker." As I closed the paper, I noticed a Mercury ad on the back page... with that very statement. I love irony...
  19. up to 200,000 to be built at Subaru, eh? The factory is about a mile & a half from here - this is good news for the local economy.
  20. Actually, if it's a hydrogen vehicle using an ICE, it wouldn't be called a fuel cell vehicle, just a hydrogen vehicle. Your point is quite good and valid, just a terminology thing, though quite a few other cars (concepts) have used the fuel cells vs the hydrogen ICE.
  21. no real problems with my compy or windows. It's a DIY job with an Athlon XP 3200+ processor. Unfortunately, only 512m ram - the other 512 stick crapped out on me.

  23. It's significant because of its range, mostly. And fuel cells are very proven, though I'd agree that some of the connected technology likely needs more work, and the cost of the technology reduced. Fuel infrastructure is probably easily the #1 challenge, though it's far from the only one. Oh, and have you not hear about the 3-mode hybrid system that GM has created and will be putting in vehicles before long? Yeah, that's right - they did this "public relations vehicle" AND a real hybrid drivetrain (I don't think you can call any of them hybrid engines unless they start putting the electric motor inside the block...).
  24. Beautiful vehicle. I still like the Saturn better... but I'm biased. I'd be glad to own any of these 3.
