  1. When I lived in OR-WA, I went to Calgary and Banff. Beautiful city and beautiful resort. A lot of nice people, too, up in Alberta. What's that slice of freeway that runs from near Univ. of Calgary to just SW of downtown? Is that it? If so, I've been on it. Yeah, it was some narrow road...but it was in August, so I'm sure it would be bad when the weather is iffy.
  2. Never had one! Just a LOT of pepperoni on my face at the time!

  4. Oh, brother, can you think of ANYTHING else...sheez! My mother lives 580 miles north of me +/- and I have a final exam tomorrow night. I called her up this morning and wished her Happy Mother's Day.
  5. ...at least you went to it! I couldn't line up a date!

  7. Nice building...nice proportions...looks eclectic....I see some neo-classical, some Romanesque...what style is it supposed to be? Sorry to digress...S.H. ...your trip looks like a good time. If I read correctly, you are taking the Cadillac. I like the 1977-1979 CdV s.

  14. Yup, most of the eastern OH, WV and western PA Italians I know of have roots in the mining industry whereas most of the Central Valley of Calif. Italians have roots in farming (as do the Portuguese and the high concentration of Armenians around Fresno) for the most part. Sadly, these traditions will erode when immigrants and first-generation types are no more.

  20. Culture...it'll do you some good! P-C-S, are you going to be stomping some grapes to the rhythm of "La Tarantella" in the background? You notice when anybody spoofs Italians, they play "La Tarantella" in the background. I tend to like Italian and Greek Festivals. I have worked, as a volunteer, at Festa Italiana in Sacramento. The Italian Festival in SF, generally near Columbus Day, is huge and too commercial...it's at one of the piers. The one in Reno is lame in that it is put on by the Eldorado Hotel and NOT the Italian community itself. Greek Festivals are always put on by their churches. With everything a la carte, you wind up spending too much for the quality...but, whatever, you can hang out with "Nick and Christina" for an afternoon.

  22. Very trippy. I've never understood how the inside part works versus the collector lanes and when you can switch over. In the "colonies," we generally have acccess to all the lanes. Incidentally, it's the McDonald Cartier Expressway or something like that. The other part of Toronto that jumps out is how, in the middle of Mississauga's or Woodbridge's residential areas, you have a RESIDENTIAL high rise popping up, whereas in the cities out West I am familiar with, they tend to be clustered. I remember how this jumps out at me whenever I land at YYZ and I'm checking things out from the plane window.
