  1. Amen! Most folks had on 29 pins there was one executive who was wearing a 30% pin. I can't remember for sure, but I believe it was Mark LaNeve.
  2. Or they could simply eliminate their marketing department and hire an outside firm like TBWA/Chiat/Day that does Apples ads.
  3. No kidding. That's not relevant and is also riddled with inaccuracies. The Civil War was not, fought over slavery for instance. It was fought because the south thought they were being unfairly taxed due to their cash crops that drove our economy in those days. The whole site reeks of elitism and stupidity.
  4. I would have voted nay too. The bill was a bad bill that would have did more harm than good. The bill should have provided dip financing for an approved CH11, so the automakers could have reorganized and come out profitable. This legislation would have just put a dying man on life support. Sure he's alive, but he just lays there in a coma and may never wake up.
  5. The Asian markets are open now and are taking a beating with the Nikkei index has falling 6%. It is likely that the US markets will see a significant drop in early trading when it opens in 10 hours. This news may have a dramatic effect on holiday shopping as Americans pull back or cancel their Christmas spending. That could cause further economic problems for retailers that have already struggled in a soft retail market. Normally many companies file for bankruptcy in the beginning of the new year, after a failed holiday season. That number cund rise consideribly. I for one have already agreed with my family that no one will be spending money on gifts this holiday season. How about everyone else?
  6. Yes, it's kind of Sad. Wagoner's been in for 8 years, so I think it also covers the G5, G6, Lacrosse(styling), Lurcerne(styling), DTS, Colorado, Canyon, Vibe, Torrent, Ion, etc... There have been plenty of great vehicles with Awful styling over the last eight years.
  7. Thats hilarious. You're pretending that the Japanese government doesn't already make it nearly impossible to do business there. LOL! Good one!
  8. I intended for foreign corporations domestically manufactured products to still be considered an import. So, even Tundras from Toyota's truck factory in Texas would be considered imported vehicles.
  9. Easy. We simply use taxes to guarantee we have no trade deficit. If Toyota wants to import vehicles then their Government needs to ensure they purchase as much from us as we do from them, or their companies must simply pay a tax that makes up for it at the end of the year. This also applies to US companies that import parts into the US, as those manufacturers must export enough products to offset their imports.
  10. Hopefully he does have to step down. He lead the company to 4 years of failure and Billions of dollars in losses. He deserves to be fired. The board and management support him, because they know that he's allowed such mediocrity and will take care of them. A real leader will clean house and they know it.
  11. I made it pretty clear in my post that I'm all for a bailout, but I don't think they can get the things they need without making rapid changes then filing C11. Plenty of people bought airline tickets months in advance from bankrupt airlines, I believe people will buy cars from a bankrupt GM. Besides most people don't know which brands are GM anyway.
  12. That may not be quite right. If GM isn't suddenly profitable and the market doesn't recover it's going to be less now AND more later as we continue to prop them up.
  13. I am NOT willing to pay for the pension or healthcare liabilities of any of GMs employees or retirees. If GM was going to file C11 couldn't they just cancel Saturn, Hummer and Saab and any other unprofitable product today? Then file C11 Tomorrow to avoid the lawsuits from all the dealers? They would immediately be profitable and our Tax dollars would provide a bridge loan that would probably pay us back a nice interest. And I think alot of people forget that this is OUR money being spent. During the hearings an economist estimated that we would need to provide additional money in the range of $100 Billion for these plans to work. There are about 89 Million Americans that pay taxes*, so that works out to $1124 dollars per tax payer if Congress doesn't cut spending somewhere, which I doubt since federal spending has increased every year since 1990*. Wouldn't it be even better to put a protection tariff on any vehicle imported from a country that has a trade deficit in their favor? *Tax Info *Federal Spending
  14. So how long till we start hearing the jokes about how GM is so broke they couldn't get a caravan of cars to D.C.?
  15. Isn't that part of the problem? GM produces a much finer car in China for Buick than they do here in the USA. Wouldn't it be better for GM to develop engineer and produce 1 set of Buicks for worldwide distribution? That would dramatically reduce R&D and production costs. A Buick should be more expensive than a chevy anyway, so when 2020 comes they'll probably be pretty close to 35MPG and avoid costing then a gas guzzler, because Chevy should still be the volume brand and offset the lower MPG of the luxury Buicks. Even if they don't the Gas Guzzler tax can just be added into the MSRP and then paid by GM.
  16. Drop GMC. The truck market is dead right now and simply cannot support an entire division full of badge jobs. Buick. Drop it. It should have been made competative with Acura 10 years ago. Too late now. Pontiac. Keep it and simply import Holdens, and don't change anything on the Holdens. The commodore looks better than the G8. SAAB. Keep it, because it's still profitable and generates posative cash flow. Chevy. Keep it of course. Caddillac. Keep it of course. Hummer. Drop it. The H3 is a rip off and the H2 is a bigger rip off. They are both cool though. Saturn drop it. I like Saturn, but it had no business being created in the first place.
  17. Hate is a strong word. I definately don't like Michael Moore's documentaries or his political ideas or ignorance. I definately do not Hate him.. Besides the Big Guy upstairs considers hate to be murder and I have enough bad thoughs already.
  18. I think Michael Moore tends to tell the "truth" in his documentaries. What I mean by that, is he's careful to tell the facts, but he'll leave things out, or tell them in a way to serve his own interest. I understand from a box office perspective why he would do this. I have to laugh though, when he's interviewing people in CUBA about their health care system. Of course they're going to say it's great! I'm so sure they feel free to speak what they really believe, because we all know the Castro brothers are just full of grins and giggles. I think he honestly believed the comment he made. But let's be real. GM's market share has been spiriling for a long time, so it kind of goes without saying, that "Yeah, they do have the wrong products". If they had the right products they'd be in great shape. Now they have some nice products that have done very well, but for the most part they're still not selling the best products and they should be if they want to remain the leader, not to mention profitable.
  19. The Stig! I heard the Australian version is flopping pretty hard. I also hear they've done a pilot for a US version. Can't wait to check it out. Ultimately though I need some new episodes on BBC American ASAP! Top Gear love baby!
  20. Bingo. It doesn't matter what size the company is. It's called accountability and the buck stops at the CEOs office. If there are burecratic problems within GM or improper spending, or products that take too long to get to market, or too many compromises from concept to production, it's because the CEO allows it, or doesn't care enough to step in when someone is making a mistake. If you look at any truly successfull company, the CEO takes responsibility for the company's success. He's their leader. He's the man who should have the vision for the company and be relentless about ensuring the company meets it. And if anyone gets in the way, they're dealt with. Either discipline or shown the door. When Apple designed the original iMac their manufacturing and engineering departments said, we can't do this product sorry. Steve Job s said, "I didn't ask you if we could do it and I didn't ask for reasons why we can't do it. I told you we doing it. Make it happen." A large portion of their engineering and manufacturing staff dug in their heels and were fired. That's the kind of leadership GM needs. Someone who knows the right thing to do and does it. They don't take any BS from anyone. They tell them to get it done or get out. And if you have that kind of accountability, people will do their jobs and the company will get things done on time and for the right amount of money. I guarantee that Toyota and Honda have this kind of accountability. In fact, I'll bet the employee would resign before he had to get fired. Not at GM though. Everybody's entitled to their jobs no matter what. I can't figure that part out.
  21. I'm going out on a limb here and saying Tiger resulted in a total of ZERO sales. I'm pretty certain that Buick didn't sell a car because of Tiger and that if they had put a nobody in the commercials instead, they would have seen the same sales. I think it's good that GM is going to save the money. I think they would be better off showing the product in the commercials. Err wait, I took a look at Buick's lineup and change my opinion. DO NOT show the product, instead hire the beer company marketing department to put a bunch of sexy young people in the cars having a party. In all seriousness though. They just need to show the cars and tell them why they should be part of the Buick family. What kind of image you get when people see you in a Buick. Oh wait... Ok, let's just put Buick in a pillow case and bury it out back by the oak tree. Buick doesn't have product, besides the enclave worth showing. The Enclave overlaps the Acadia too much anyway and in this market people are going to save a couple of grand and get the SAME vehicle from GMC. I really think GM should not waste the marketing on Buick until their entire line is up to snuff and worth buying.
  22. I fear the press is going to portray this as grandstanding. Like oops I forgot our anniversary, let me run out and get you something. It just looks stupid when you do it after being caught. Now I hope I'm wrong and GM really uses it as an opp to get it's newest most fuel efficent models in the press. I hope they bring fully optioned hybrids. Forget Flex Fuel though, because half the nation knows it's BS. Just hybrids. And get a Volt prototype on the road for this. Oh and of course No SUVs, even if they're hybrids.
  23. GM was profitable when he took over. Now they are $78B in the hole with rumors of bankruptcy. If any small business had an employee like this he would be fired and listed non rehireable. I understand why he doesn't want to leave but I don't think shareholders or uncle Sam will allow it and they're right.
  24. I think he's correct in saying it's a problem for this Congress and this President. He's resigned as a Senator so he has no power to do anything until his inaugeration. It would seem that much of the media is pessimistic about emergency loans happening before then. I feel pretty confident that GM will file chapter 11 before Christmas and possibly before thanksgiving. Being in bankruptcy would give them additional leverage in dealing with Congress in early December.
  25. I don't think it would be a good idea. If GM were to go under the pension fund would be in even worse shape.
