this book is incredibly assinine, and it speaks of what kind of shock culture we live in today. what a putz.

part of the same HF family that our 3.6 is. i can't figure out why GM refuses to bring this engine over here. The 2.8 in the CTS is barely adequate for that kind of car, it would greatly benefit from having the 3.2 standard. The next CTS should have 3.6 standard and DI 3.6 as an option unless they plan on catering to the ~30k crowd. I completely agree with the comment about engine consolidation. If Hyundai/KIA/DCX/Ford can figure out how to equip thier cars with competitive DOHC engines affordably, then I see no reason for GM to continue producing the "HV" line, what a stupid notion HV is. IT's like saying, your car is totally cheap, that's why we've used cheaper materials and components.

The grainy photo that leaked, I beleive, has been quoted to have been something like 80% accurate, and that it was one design proposal, for the original STS evok speaks of here. That car was totally a crappy design anyways; I have no constructive criticism, it was just all wrong.

and we get to where we are today, where market demands have forced GM off too many shopping lists, simply because the level of engineering a consumer expects is higher than it has ever been before, the bar has been raised and GM has failed to meet it....consistently.

Don't be afraid. Let the product determine the pricing; if the Impala is truly an incredible car, similar to the Passat in overall quality, character, and substance.....it can command a price bracket from 25k-35k easily. The product just needs to be there. People will pay the price for something they feel is truly worth it. As is, I wouldn't pay 22k for a base Impala knowing a much better built, more economic, similarly capacious, powerful, modern Civic can be had for 18k with a better reputation and better resale value.

i like the idea of concept sketches from members accompanying these stories. I guess it was only a matter of time before some people didn't pay enough attention to know those weren't real cars, though. GM using its massive global platforms is only a good thing, I can't wait until these new cars are out. GM is definitely positioning itself to remain a number one or number two player throughout the world for a long time to come.

I don't think they mean that far upscale. The current Impala bases around 21k, so I think they are talking relative to this. They are probably thinking if they should base price the car around 25k, or close to the upper end of the Malibu. I think basing the car around 25k is a good idea, as long as it is a fairly basic car, and Malibu is fairly loaded at this point. One thing I think is necessary for both the Malibu and Impala is a nice navigation unit, btw.

i forgot about that geometrical shapes project gone awry

oh yeah, isn't the first paragraph of that article really ironic? Chrysler is sure it's going to compete well, so they are giving you money to trade your car in for it? If it's going to compete so well, shouldn't I want it without any incentive?
-
there are two character lines on the side, the fender flares, the exaggerated wedge shape, and the overall profile of the roofline that translated from the concept to production. other than that, chrysler took a classy, art deco-ish design and spit all over it with putric acid, then beat it with an ugly stick, and finally drew mean eyes to show just how frustrated owners of this car must be to pick up the sebring. yuck yuck yuck, what were they smoking? this is the most discombobulated car to come out since the aztek.
-
I nearly fell out of my chair laughing at that statement. you're right, the sebring is a pretty hilarious car.

SLS really is what the Cadillac ULS should have been all along, at least dimmensional wise. Why has Cadillac deprived this market of this car all along? And why the heck does China come along with a fledgling market and all of a sudden get budget support for a large Sigma car? EDIT: I am not saying the SLS has "the right size" for the ULS class, but it's obviously much closer to what it should be for the class.
-
is cadillac planning on killing the current STS with the next gen and just upgrading cts along the way? we've heard some reports the CTS could use a northstar V8, though with the DI 3.6 I see even less reason to use the NS. Will STS grow in size and become the flagship, with a smaller RWD under CTS? As it is, CTS is going to be competing tit for tat with 5-series and E-class, just not in price, but I would put money on Cadillac raising the price with the NG CTS.

too bad we can't all have jobs that allow us to sample everything and then form an opinion. I just read a torrent summary over at edmunds and they seemed to like the ride/handling too. I guess it's that I think the torrent should be chevy's car with a better engine, and torrent should be that much more exciting, performance-oriented, and luxurious......maybe this is why I'm not all that excited about this car. i think mostly everyone here feels pontiac is not truly above chevy in any way, at this point at least. it could also have to do with the fact that i would bottom line never buy a little cute ute, it'd be midsizer or x-over suv for me all the way.
-
if theta really is as cheap to drive as mags have denounced it to be, by this i mean sloppy handling, coarse engine, overloaded steering that doesn't respond or provide feedback well, then I think they all need suspension and handling improvements. I also think the torrent should have 3.6 standard to differentiate the Torrent from the Eq. As it is, I think they are good foundations for great cars, and they both are at the top of thier class style-wise, but as with all GM cars, they stopped the buck short on some of the most important items because of all the meth amphetamine they'd had that night again

hold it, that's the new SS-R version GM has coming out. I agree with most here, Equinox needs to stay away from the SS badge, and all the lineup should receive suspension/handling/steering upgrades since one of the universal complaints on this car is the lame drive. The 3.5 or 2.4 should become the standard engine, and the 3.6 should be standard. The interior should receive upgrades, and the front end should be freshened with body-color chrome bar and more attractive/current headlight housings. Torrent should be differentiated by having the 3.6 standard. It should also make room for an optional 6-spd manual, even if it doesn't sell initially, it can help build credentials. Eventually, I would love to see Zeta used for 7 pass crossovers to compete with the likes of CX-7 and MDX [sRX is a competitor for these, I know, but price it below SRX and make it the performance on the cheap model for Pontiac].

and this is where you got funny, haha you're funny.

This is where it started and this is where you questioned his knowledge, which has decades on you and I, need i remind you I'm sure he doesn't disagree with you on this. this is where you made a fool of yourself, talking like that, at your age, to a man with experience. tell me, if your father is successful at whatever he is successful at, and you are arguing with him, is this how you're going to talk to him when he gets pissed off at you because you are acting like the profession he has put his whole life into, and you've put maybe 30 minutes in comparison, is really not anything you haven't figured out with all your mighty intellect. yet again that self-serving attitude

the alluminum trim here actually looks better that what we get in the U.S. versions. I'm not fond of the stereo or audio controls, they look kind of glossy and like they might be cheap [but they might not be too], I also don't like the HVAC vents. Everything else is really wonderful. What is it that China does that makes thier cars so much more wonderful than ours? Do they have better designers or do they get more budget? Are the parts cheaper to make over there so the cars can get trimmed really nicely on the inside? I agree that the exterior length makes the design better, however, it's still lame like Cspec said.

high mileage cars are the future. as GM is finally jumping into the RWD party, they also need to cover small cars that have great mileage. a civic competitor with 30 mpg city like empowah stated is a great necessity......if they can get an engine that performs like that into a great platform that matches the civic's great engineering.....and then make a small convertible off of that platform, they'll cover yet another massive part of the market looking for standard commuter cars. cobalt is good, but not enough, and it is too derivative and plain in its style, needs more style.
-
because it's actually going to happen now, maybe it has a program code, exterior design is the clay stage, etc....bottom line is it's something that is certain now, if he is posting with such certainty. he's not unreliable or trigger-happy when it comes to inside info.
-
you have.....a lot of talk recently about this kind of car. this isn't someone anonymously posting, this person has information most of us don't have. kind of how we have known about so much product in the pipeline before the mags or the general public.

was that even a working concept? It was a concept that Holden did without permission, I guess, if that was true..... I thought it did have a real functioning platform.
