  1. When I was younger, I was an introvert. I had very few friends ... and didn't feel well liked, if even liked at all. Within the last few years, however, that has changed ... dramatically. I am now an extrovert. Yet, my current job (call center rep for an annuity contact center) is changing me back to an introvert. Most of the callers are unhappy about one thing or another (understandably, of course) ... and that grates on my nerves so much so that I have yet to go to a local cruise night this year. It doesn't help that I'm "tied to the desk" 24/7 while I'm at work. I get home and don't want to do anything; haven't even had the older 4 MCs out much this year. I cringe if my phone rings, no matter who it is. Over the weekends, it is a bit better, but I'm so drained (physically and emotionally) from the week that barely anything gets done. Yes, I am searching for a new job ... but even that search drains more energy (not to mention time) ... and its starting to really get to me. Heh ... I'm in my 30s and just don't seem to have found my niche yet ... something that "society" seems to "frown" upon.... Even more, sometimes, I don't feel I belong anywhere. A friend was telling me about his 22-year-old cousin who recently settled down and started a family; I'm almost 11 years older than him ... and haven't even had the opportunity (if you know what I mean) to have kids. Hmmm...that October road trip out west is looking very very very good right about now. Then again, I'd need to reverse the current trend of going back to being an introvert . Sooo...how about you? Has your career path changed you? Cort, "Mr MC" / "Mr Road Trip", 32swm/pig valve/pacemaker MC:family.IL.guide.future = http://www.chevyasylum.com/cort/ "Beginning to think that I'm wasting time" ... 5. *nods* Yeah, thinking about it, so would I. And, frankly, that is a scary statistic .
  6. *nods* Yep ... that is about Cadillac .
  7. Thanks for your replies ... definitely appreciated. To see or talk to him, you wouldn't know he had been diagnosed with depression. I think that's part of the reason why he isn't seeking treatment...but, I'm not sure. Heh ... he talked more about different cool places (i.e. the thread I started a week ago or so about Rt 66 and Raceway Woods) than anything. We'll see what progresses.....
  8. AMEN! And, HE, I noticed that signature a day or 2 ago ... sorry I didn't mention anything to you sooner, but I LOVE that pic of that '73 MC . 12. A friend of mine has been diagnosed with depression. However, he has chosen not to seek treatment (which would include a medical leave from work and daily therapist sessions) because he feels it is a "copout" FOR HIM. He does not feel, however, that those diagnosed with depression (and seeing treatment) are "copouts" ... just him. In fact, he says he realizes that others need that "push" to turn things around and doesn't think badly about or begrudge anyone who chooses that route. However, for himself, he feels that he shouldn't need help to "get happy" again ... and doesn't want the "stigma" of having depression. I don't agree with him. First, many people are diagnosed with depression, so the idea of a "stigma" to it doesn't carry much weight, imho. Second, three people I know have been treated and/or are being treated for depression. None of these cases, from my view, are "copouts". Yet, my friend's comments made me wonder how many others think that taking treatment for depression is a "copout", especially if it involves a medical leave from work. So, what say you? 16. Sadly, nothing exciting ... and no traveling, thus far, is planned.... Perhaps get the '87 MC LS cleaned up (wash/wax) ... go to a party at my sis and bro-in-law's house Saturday ... otherwise, nothing much ... relax and (hopefully) get some things done.... 21. Hmm....the brochures call 'em "models". But, that's Chevrolet for ya.
  22. *chuckles* I haven't received that message in a while ... knock on wood. But, like NOS, I was expecting a completely different topic to be written on the page ... like sick of seeing the "official" posts ... or sick of opening posts only to read about the "fun" lives of posters..... 23. Chevrolet Monte Carlo Custom ... 1972. Had been: Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS ... 1970 and 1971. The aforementioned 1980 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. And, a bit off subject, but 1986 is the only year of the 4th gen MCs that the SC, LS and SS models were available all at the same time. 24. Oh, I'd venture to guess that more people liked it, but just didn't post. I seem to have the same trouble with my post tho, especially on some forums, where NOBODY replies ... kinda frustrating ... and telling ... all at the same time . I agree! In fact, Leo from the FGMC (lives just north of Detroit about an hour or so off I-94) drives a FG MC (1972, I believe) DAILY. My '87 MC LS is the same way ... daily driven. My older 4, however, are indeed sunny only cars ... BUT, I do drive 'em to work as I'm able ... and I don't shy away from taking them places. Sounds good, bud! I was at the "main event" a few years ago, when the FGMC had its Annual Eastern meet at the cruise. We were parked at the north end of Woodward, in Pontiac, on a grassy area there. It was AWESOME! One of these days, I will return again .
  25. First ... refresh my memory, Camino, what business ARE you in currently? Second ... the quote above ... holy cow ... fits me to a T, just about. I, too, am very unhappy with my job and, in some cases, my living situation. As I mentioned earlier, a few years ago, I almost sold my MC collection. But, in my case, at the time, it was facing a bunch of medical bills that I didn't see myself being able to pay ... plus a few other things going on at that time. But, in talking to family and friends (even my best friend who says she has no idea why I'm into cars like I am), I discovered that if I got rid of my MCs ... I wouldn't be any happier ... because, for better or worse, they are a lot of what makes me me. Not all of it, of course (my road trips and a few other hobbies define me as well), but a large portion. *sighs* I keep looking and waiting for that "big break" that'll turn things around for me ... and I keep hitting brick walls ... both personally and professionally.
