  1. As most of ya'll know, I've been back from my weekend mini road trip to IN-OH-PA-MI last weekend, Aug 11-14, around my family reunion in Holsopple PA on Saturday, Aug 12. I had a great time (despite Dad's health issues that developed Sunday afternoon while I was en route to Toledo OH). I'm already looking forward to my October road trip out west through AR-TX-OK-KS-MO-IA-WI ... and even my trip east in 2007 (around the MC Nationals and Monte MadneSS, if both are indeed scheduled for back-to-back weekends).... But, for this trip, as usual, I met a few people along the way and learned a thing or two . Indiana (Friday morning) ...Tammy (college friend; Warsaw, about 9:15a, along US 30) ...Jeff (2nd gen MC, IL MC grp; Columbia City, about 10:45a, along US 30) Ohio (Friday night in Smithville, arrived about 3p, along RT 585) ...Keith & Kelly (college friends) ... stayed with them overnight. We had dinner at CiCi's, a pizza joint. Pennsylvania (Saturday afternoon; Saturday night/Sunday morning breakfast at an Eat'n'Park in Pittsburgh) ...family at the reunion in Holsopple PA, noonish until about 4pmish ...Dan (FGMC) ...Frank (MCSS) ...Drew (C&G) ...Rob (FGMC) ... stayed with Rob and his wife Saturday night Pennsylvania (Sunday morning) ...Christian & Jill (ValveReplacement; W View) Ohio (Sunday afternoon) ...Bill (ChevyTalk & El Camino Central; Toledo, about 2p, along I-75 N, just north of the OH Turnpike) Michigan (Sunday night, at Pasquale's Restaurant, Royal Oak) ...Rosie (MI MCs) ...Mark (MyMonte) ...Andrea (2000mc) ...Brandon (2000mc) ...Scott & family (RaceDayNews) ...Leo & Sue (FGMC) ...George & wife (Carnuts.us) ...Gianh & Ben & boys (friends, used to live in Elgin) ...Frank (C&G) ...Russ (C&G) ...mightymouse (C&G) ...many others (about 20+ people total), including from the MI MC group! ...Pete & Donna (FGMC) ... stayed overnight with them. Don't believe I left anyone in particular out.... I know some people weren't able to be at any of the gatherings...sorry I missed seeing you! I discovered... ...I really need a new job ... one that includes traveling. ...you never have enough time to visit with family & friends; strangers are friends you have yet to meet.... ...getting on the road by 5a and 6a during a road trip is easier than getting up early for work everyday. ...RT 30 through Indiana and Ohio is actually a pleasant drive. ...blowing bubbles is fun & relaxing, even when kids are trying to pop the bubbles you blow. ..."Phase 10", a card game, is fun and frustrating ... at the same time. ...today's PEZ candy dispensers are cooler and have more detailed styling than the ones I had growing up.... ...magical memories, from childhood to the recent past to today, which are with us forever, always seem to flood back the most when with family. ...it is tough having to say "see you next time" to family that you see once or twice a year.... ...the Pontiac Beaumont (Canada's version of the Chevrolet Chevelle) is sweet looking in person, as is the brand new Pontiac Solstice (saw both, among other awesome cars, at a cruise night near Pittsburgh PA Saturday night). ...a '77 Buick handles and rides very comfortably ... as does a certain '70 MC . ...Pittsburgh streets are both exhilerating and challenging to navigate.... ...the Ohio Turnpike isn't all that expensive. ...a Wendy's Frosty tastes great when visiting with friends. ...MI has some of the finest cars during "Woodward week". ...the new Camaro is cool to see in person, but I'm not sure I'm keen on the slogan: "When you were great in a past life, you come back as yourself." Admittedly, it is a cool slogan ... but, it could be a "slap in the face" to enthusiasts of the Impalas, Malibus, Novas and Monte Carlos ... none of which came back as themselves in the last few years...... ...a group of 20+ can easily manage to find a place to eat at Pasquale's on Woodward Ave in Royal Oak MI. ...it is a thrill to cruise up'n'down Woodward Ave! ...friends & family are good to have. ...I need to put together a list of all that I've learned during my road trips ... perhaps soon, or even after my October road trip out west this year.... Excellent trip, all in all, even with Dad ending up in the hospital in PA because of a "verbal seizure" (originally thought to be a stroke). Luckily, he is back home now . To those of you who knew about it, I appreciate the thoughts/prayers. I'm still looking to see if people are interested in... * Raceway Woods, Carpentersville IL: http://www.meadowdaleraceway.homestead.com/ * going to see the movie "Cars" * Volo Auto Museum, Volo IL: http://www.volocars.com * a weekend cruise (along IL RT 20 W ... 2. *nods* Yes, yes you do! Yes ... agreed. Same boat for me, too. In particular, I'd change being single ... well, if I could, anyway..... *sighs* Thanks ... and I'll heed this advice . And, Camino ... absolutely LOVE those song quotes ... glad you shared 'em!
  3. Hmph. Love that tagline. Except, what a slap in the face to enthusiasts of Impalas, Malibus, Novas and MCs....none of which came back as themselves as they were reincarnated through the 80s, 90s and 00s..... *shakes head* Cort, "Mr MC" / "Mr Road Trip", 32swm/pig valve/pacemaker MC:family.IL.guide.future = http://www.chevyasylum.com/cort/ What's it like to buy your favorite car brand new? 4. *shrugs* Not that I noticed. Course, I wasn't particularly looking since I thought you were stuck at home for the weekend ... he heh. And, btw, I thought I was the only virgin left ... good to know I'm not.....
  5. *raises eyebrow* Wait ... were you there, too, Sunday night? Or, are you just agreeing about the restaurant?
  6. *raises eyebrow* Interesting. I suspect you traveled down RT 219 at some point to Somerset. In which case, you were just a few seconds away from me, as I was just off RT 219 in the Holsopple PA area..... Ah, well. And NOS, regarding those names ... I thought I was thinking too much ... he he he. 7. *nods* Thank you, NOS! And, mighymouse, I'm very glad you were able to join us after all! As I mentioned to you, I was asking NOS about you just before I saw you pull into the parking lot . Oh ... awesome pics ... keep 'em coming !
  8. ...and delicious at that .
  9. *raises eyebrow* Those are AWESOME! Heh ... may have to go out and see about obtaining some of those . And, bud, thanks again for the poster, and, of course, the dealer promo! 10. *nods* Yep, that was cool. Tho, after thinking about it a bit, I'm not very keen on the slogan ... "When you were great in a past life, you come back as yourself" ... or something very similar. Yes ... very good to meet you, too, NOS! Very glad you joined us ... and hung around for a bit to cruise, etc. If only there had been more cute'n'single ladies . Got back OK today ... still not exactly sure about Dad. They don't think he had a stroke ... believe they are calling it a "verbal seizure". We'll see what the next day or 2 brings ... 11. *nods* About 5am ... so, I'm a heading to quickly check my other forums before catching something called sleep . See you Sunday!
  12. Glad I checked in one quick time before leaving for OH-PA-MI.... I don't know if it is a fancy place or not. If it is, I will be underdressed ... I'll have on a pair of jeans and a Monte Carlo T-shirt. And, the more the merrier! Hmmm...speaking of which, any single ladies coming? I may end up driving home yet Sunday night as I found out the people I'm going to stay with ... have to be out of town unexpectedly . --- Hrrm...and I'm still hoping to see XP and Sixty8 (with the Oldsmobile?) and Oldsmoboi and others in the Johnstown/Pittsburgh area this Saturday...... *nods* Perfect way to think about it . And, reading through your notes, SD, dave, yellow & trina ... I'm glad I posted this. Thank you for sharing your experiences and insights as well . 13. *raises eyebrow* Wow ... thank you! I'm ... speechless. Amen. This is a very hard lesson to learn. Luckily, with my surgeries, I've learned it a few times ... heh ... sadly, I haven't completely learned the lesson in some cases . And, capriceman, received it, thank ya . I sent you a PM back ... didn't have time for a long response, as I need to get to bed sooner rather than later tonight due to the upcoming road trip.
  14. *chuckles* Thank you, NOS . Welp, I'm a trying, anyway. Believe me ... I'm not 100% on seeing the positive side of life. Too many times, I catch myself NOT seeing the positive side ... and then am quickly reminded of how I used to be ... and how I don't ever want to be again. Sadly, it's the stupid things that make the "not positive" side glaringly obvious . razoredge, I am trying to shed some of those piles myself ... can be very tedious ... and frustrating ... heh. LOL! Well, they are . And, while I can't say I'm "dying" to know the reasons, I am curious. If you want to share ... and/or need to share (i.e. vent), shoot me a PM . *snaps fingers* Dangumit ... I knew I had forgotten something ... LEGOS!!!!!!!!! D'oh ... and model trains. *shakes head* How could I forget? BTW, bud, not sure if you've seen my post about the trip to PA ... you and XP able to make a trip to Pittsburgh/Johnstown at all? I believe I've already given you my cell ... if not, it's in that PA trip thread . *pauses* And, for the record, I'm not depressed or down. I'm just ... well, melancholy, I guess. I know that there are a number of people that I'm going to miss during my trips this year (especially the one this weekend) ... either because schedules won't match up ... or because they don't know I'm coming (i.e. they haven't read the threads...*gasp*) ... or because time and distance won't allow it. This frustrates me to no end, because invariably, when I get back from my road trips ... and post about 'em ... I'll have a few people from each board that says, "you shoulda told me about it ... you were in my backyard practically!" Sorry, I can't PM everybody ... I can only do so much to get the word out . *shrugs* As I was explaining to someone else earlier today, I am much better than I was back in my "evil twin" days of a few years ago. Yet, I have my "melancholy" moments that seem to make people think I might be going back there.... Hmmm...not if I can help it .
  15. Hey BV, no worries. We'll meet up someday ... it's not like I don't come to PA often ... he heh. Welp, I won't be getting to Pittsburgh until a bit after that ... unless, of course, the reunion is shorter than expected. I'll either be coming to Pittsburgh Saturday night ... or early (8amish or so, as I noted) for breakfast on Sunday en route to Michigan that day. I Emailed you my cell # (and it is in the post, too, he he he), so give me a call Saturday when you are available after 4:30 ... and we'll go from there. I have a few people in the Pittsburgh area to see ... so, maybe, we can all meet up somewhere. Or, whatever works .
  16. *chuckles* As the owner of a triple black 1976 Monte Carlo ... I agree whole-heartedly with your entire statement . He heh. 17. "Life seems to just pull people apart" That's what a friend and former co-worker wrote to me earlier this week. She was lamenting the fact that some people she had gotten to know and had been close with ... now seem to be "lost in time". Sadly, I know exactly what she means. I can remember friends in college, high school, grade school and even from just a few years ago, that, at the time, I couldn't imagine life without them. But now, I can only be a bit curious as to what they're doing now ... or even, for that matter, if they are alive. We've grown apart, not because we wanted to, but because life pulled us in different directions ... whether it be because of interests, or moves ... or, in some cases, death. Perhaps my "pensive" mind is working overtime these days, but I get the feeling that people in general (not everyone, of course) does not quite realize how precious life is ... or how much people need people. Maybe my mood is caused by the closing of my church, which, in a way, has me feeling like I've lost my grandparents (mom's parents) yet again since my grandfather once pastored there. Maybe my mood is caused by the death of a long-time member of that church just this past Friday; an event that reminded me yet again just how many times I've said "oh, I'll see them again sometime soon" ... and then never do. Maybe my mood is because I'm frustrated with the company that owns my favorite baseball team ... which seems more attentive to making the ballpark look better than putting a quality team on the field. Maybe my mood is because I'm frustrated with my favorite car company. Maybe my mood is caused by the idea that I'm "missing something" ... just because society, in general, is focused on and based around couples. Maybe my mood is caused by the frustrations of a job I hate ... that seeps my energy until I don't feel like doing a dangum thing when I get home in the evenings; yes, I'm searching for a new job..... When I was younger, I was NOT a people person. I was an introvert to the max. I read, played with my matchbox/hot wheels cars, wrote, and watched TV. The interaction I had was all at school or at church functions. Of course, this "introvertedness" was partly because of my heart issues ... which kept me out of the "traditional" sports and "nightlife" scenes that most high school and college kids experience. If was also partly caused by the cruelness of kids. But, over the last number of years, I've come out of that shell ... and become a people person ... to the max. No, I don't go to parties and clubs and bars, but I do take my road trips and meet up with as many people as I possibly can. I meet people because I find that we tend to have more in common than just a shared interest in a group or message board. These commonalities, of course, form the basis of friendships, networking opportunities, etc. Yes, it's true that many of these people I see once ... maybe twice ... a year, if that. But, we know we have that friend or family member thinking of us "somewhere out there". I also post about my road trips [i recently posted about trips to IN-OH-PA-MI and AR-TX-OK-KS/MO-IA-WI as well as gathering possiblities in IL-IN-WI-IA-MI] because it is cool to put a face and voice to the name on the screen. One person commented that posting about those trips would be a field day for someone who wanted to assasinate me ... since they now know exactly where I'll be Aug 11-14 and Oct 11-17. Perhaps that person is right, who knows. He he ... and mixed in all of this is the "urge" to get back on the radio, drive my Chevrolet Monte Carlos, find a woman with whom to share life (among other things ), find a job that suits me perfectly (which, of course, would include some travel, at least regionally) ... and have even more of a blast than I am now. That is, if that's even possible . Cort, "Mr MC" / "Mr Road Trip", 32swm/pig valve/pacemaker MC:family.IL.guide.future = http://www.chevyasylum.com/cort/ "It's time to take a leap of faith" ... 18. Hey, that'd be cool, BV. How far you willing to travel from Brookville? I know I won't be able to get that far north this trip due to time limitations. If you want, you could join us whenever we decide to meet in Pittsburgh. OR ... I could maybe stop along the way somewhere in RT 422 on my way to RT 219 on Saturday morning.... Let me know ... you should have my # (see above post). Anyone else???!?!?!?
  19. *nods* So very true. Over a year ago, when I was still working at Sears' headquarters, I happened to look out of our 3rd floor office window one day down at the parking lot. I was a bit shocked at the "dull" sea of greys, blacks, whites and tans that filled the parking lot. I only spotted a few "outlandish" colors of yellow and red dotting the lot. Aye. Would be nice to see a few more interior colors, too....
