Lincoln vs. 66 ... and other old routes
LOL! Learn something new every day, doncha? Here in IL, the Lincoln Highway is kinda interesting. It starts out on the east part of IL (just south of Chicago) as RT 30. But, somewhere around the Joliet area, it shoots up north ... and connects to IL RT 38 through Geneva, etc. Then, on the western edge of IL, it somehow/sorta meets back up with RT 30. Hmmm...probably should add RT 1 to my list when I get out that far east, eh?

Holy crimeny! Heh ... it almost looked, at first, like they were trying to recreate that scene that played at the end of Dukes of Hazzard ... where the Duke Boys in the Charger were being chased by the cop around the trees in the field by the dirt road...heh. UPDATE: This IS coming together. Soon, I will start a brand new post/thread as the OFFICIAL announcement. More to come!!!! Anyone else willing to help put this together? ALSO: I know the costs of such a trip, especially if one decides to go the entire distance, will be significant. 07/25/09: 2nd Annual MidSummer Chitown Gathering
After Saturday's gathering (October 18, 2008), it is my opinion that Nick's... http://www.nickspizzapub.com/site/home/ ...should be the choice place for this 2nd ANNUAL MidSummer CHITOWN GATHERING. 65 people joined us for the 1st ANNUAL MidSummer CHITOWN GATHERING (July 26, 2008; at Steak'n'Shake). Nick's can certainly support that many people AND MORE.... Nick's has plenty of parking, most of it viewable from the outdoor patio. At Nick's, however, we will probably need to set a time for lunch ... probably about 1:30p ... so that we can reserve the tables needed. But, we'll see.... Next week, I will contact the special events department at Nick's to get plans rolling. More to come! THANK YOU to ALL who joined us at Nick's Saturday afternoon! Some might say not enough people came, but we had a WONDERFUL time ... complete with plenty of sunshine and not-too-cool temps! Checking out Nick's, it is my opinion that Nick's should be the place of choice for the 2nd ANNUAL MidSummer CHITOWN GATHERING, July 25, 2009. 65 people were at the 1st ANNUAL MidSummer CHITOWN GATHERING (July 26, 2008)...and Nick's can certainly support that many people AND MORE.... Nick's has plenty of parking as well. Next week, I will contact the special events department at Nick's to get plans rolling. More to come! As for Saturday, October 18, 2008, along with myself, 11 people gathered: Adam (inssanity, MCF), 06 SS Ryan (Adam's friend) Carl (carlss, NMOCA and MCSS), 84 MC SS Scott L (2nd gen MC Yahoo group), 74 MC 454 John (friend of Scott L) Andreas (President of the First Gen MC Club), 71 MC Leo (Andreas' son) Barry (Andreas' friend from TN) Roger and wife (r.sorg, FGMCC), 72 MC Custom (better looking twin of my '72 MC) Cort | 35swm | "Mr Monte Carlo"."Mr Road Trip" | pig valve.pacemaker WRMNshowcase.legos.HO.models.MCs.RTs.CHD = http://www.chevyasylum.com/cort "Nothing lasts forever" ... Nitpicking movies
That reminds me of an episode last year of Friday Night Lights. One of the main characters and his Dad took a mid-'70s (1975-1976, iirc) Caprice wagon to torch it ... and, while it was burning, it turned into a '77-'79 Caprice wagon! Aye.

Why must women be matchmakers?
*nods* Yeah, I agree. That seems a bit...weird...especially if the other lady is EXPECTING to meet you for that particular reason ... and not necessarily WANT to be at that function. *shrugs* Best you can do now, I think, is just to see how it goes...and go from there. I've never had anyone try to match me with anyone. Not sure what that says...heh. Lincoln vs. 66 ... and other old routes
In starting to plan the September 2009 Route 66 tour (formal announcement coming soon), I realize that Route 66 isn't the only old, nostalgic route available to travel. The Lincoln Highway is another one...which, unlike Route 66, spans across the entire United States, from coast to coast. Maybe someday I'll have time to do that route. In the meantime, while I'm familiar with some sections of the old Lincoln Highway (notably through Geneva IL, towards Elburn IL, and points farther west) due to historic marker signs along IL RT 38, US Route 66 is the one old highway that really interests/intrigues me. I've always been curious about Route 66 ... because I enjoy older cars and roads ... and I wonder what life was like "back then". The song "Route 66" has had a part in my interest in Route 66, but a special on PBS about a mother/daughter duo who took the Route 66 trip also peaked my interest. BUT...what really sparked and deepened my curiosity about Route 66 was the recent movie "Cars". Strange, yes, but "Cars" featured a lot of scenes from Route 66 ... and was based on actual people and places along Route 66. It also featured history of the road, and illustrated the effect of interstates, such as I-40, on life along Route 66. Route 66 map: http://www.nps.gov/history/rt66/map/map.htm Route 66 info: http://www.historic66.com/ Lincoln Highway map: http://www.lincolnhighwayassoc.org/info/ Lincoln Highway info: http://www.lincolnhighwayassoc.org/ So ... what about you? What "old routes" (Route 66, Lincoln Highway, or OTHERS?) intrigue/interest you? It isn't "perfect" for me either (I usually wash/wax my car for the last time in the year) ... BUT ... this would, for most, be a 3-day weekend, good for one less vacation day from work.... *** FUNDRAISERS? *** Depending on interest, perhaps we could have fundraisers for non-profit organizations (such as the Adult Congenital Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, etc. etc.) along the way.... *** PARTICIPANT ASSISTANCE *** To ensure that this is a success, I will need some help in planning activities. I'd like to have at least one volunteer in every state along the way to help me plan and arrange events, tours, shows, etc. I believe ChevyTalk's Dee Gee and Bobs53PU, Oklahoma residents, are willing to help out in Oklahoma. Anyone for Missouri, Kansas, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, California??? AND ... SOON ... I will start a new, official thread for this event....
