Debate not yet settled, but Lutz thinks Impala will be FWD
knightfan26917 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Chevrolet
Only problem with that is that not everyone PERCEIVES that as "customer ascension" ... nor does it take into account the folks that either can't afford those "ascended" brands or don't want to pay out the higher premiums to be paid for those cars. Sure hope so ... the last one I've seen was from 1996. Oh? See my comment above.... For some of us, it already has. I have NEVER been able to buy a brand new Ch#$r%*et Malibu or Ch#$r%*et Monte Carlo. NOTES 1 ... This is a "woa, can ya believe so many years have past since...?" topic/thread. 2 ... I'm not even sure exactly WHY I'm sharing this, but maybe we'll find out.... Every now and then, an anniversary will hit, and, when you realize just how many years have gone by and what all has happened since that event, you pause for a moment ... and wonder just where has the time gone. Such is the case for me, December 27, 2007; because, 20 years ago, December 27, 1987, my original/then best friend, Josh, died of a severe asthma attack. It was a shock to me ... a shy guy who had FEW friends and was so NOT popular. Of course, as it most-often does, time has eased the pain ... and that experience has made me a better person. It didn't "back then", but since I've come out of my shell, met many people during my road trips, become friends with many of you, and turned some things around, that experience has been there ... always ... shaping me, without me even realizing it fully. Likewise, 2007 marks several other "milestones", including (but not limited to, of course)... 30 years ago: November 1977, my 1st open heart surgery #1 hits include...Glen Campbell's "Southern Nights", Kenny Rogers' "Lucille", The Kendalls' "Heaven's Just A Sin Away", and Dolly Parton's "Here You Come Again" 25 years ago: spring 1982, my parents bought '81 Monte Carlo SC, which became mine in 1999 #1 hits include...Juice Newton's "The Sweetest Thing", Oak Ridge Boys' "Bobbie Sue", Willie Nelson's "Always On My Mind", David Frizzell's "I'm Gonna Hire A Wino To Decorate Our Home", Sylvia's "Nobody", Jerry Reed's "She Got The Goldmine (I Got The Shaft)", and Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You" 20 years ago: March 1987, my 2nd open heart surgery October 1987, stock market crash; the girl in Texas fell down the well; RFer Andre Dawson, with a league-leading 49 HRs for the last-place Chicago Cubs, was named NL MVP. November 1987, Chicago's mayor Harold Washington died in office, the day before Thanksgiving December 11, 1987, production ended for the Ch#$r%*et Monte Carlo, my favorite car #1 hits include...Michael Johnson's "Give Me Wings", Restless Heart's "Why Does It Have To Be (Wrong Or Right)", Hank Williams Jr's "Born To Boogie", and Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's "Fishing In The Dark" 15 years ago: June 1992, I graduated HS October 1992, I purchased my first car, a 1979 MC Landau, which I still have #1 hits include...Collin Raye's "Love, Me", Reba McEntire's "Is There Life Out There?", Billy Ray Cyrus' "Achy Breaky Heart", Mark Chestnut's "I'll Think Of Something", Wynonna's "No One Else On Earth", and Alabama's "I'm In A Hurry (And Don't Know Why)" 10 years ago: September 1997, I purchased my first brand-new car, since long gone December 1997, we had to put our family dog, a silky-haired terrior named Fibber, to sleep 3 days before Christmas #1 hits include...Kevin Sharp's "Nobody Knows" and Tim McGraw/Faith Hill's "It's Your Love" 5 years ago: March 2002, I purchased my 1972 MC, completing my collection of one of each MC generation October 2002, Gram (Mom's mom), with whom I was close, died. December 2002, a stress test revealed that I needed a 3rd open heart surgery ... pronto #1 hits include...JoDee Messina's "Bring On The Rain", Brooks and Dunn's "Long Goodbye", Kenny Chesney's "The Good Stuff", Darryl Worley's "I Miss My Friend", and Keith Urban's "Somebody Like You" So ... how about YOU? Did 2007 feature any milestone anniversaries? Oh? My '87 MC LS has NOT yet let me down, failed to start, gone off the roadway ... at all, EVEN in the coldest and worst winter weather conditions. Debate not yet settled, but Lutz thinks Impala will be FWD
knightfan26917 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Chevrolet
Wow ... I guess people like me (oh, WAIT ... I am VERY sorry, I forgot ... I am the ONLY one) are not wanted around here...because the idea that buying a Pontiac or Buick is a "move-up" seems like a backhanded slap in the face to those of us who are die-hard Ch#$r%*et fans..... They haven't so far.... As for the quote from Lutz ... good night shirt tail ... isn't this old news? We keep hearing about this going back'n'forth between "it will be FWD" ... to ... "no wait, it will be RWD" ... and back to ... "Oops, sorry. No can do. RWD cars don't drive in the snow at all ... only FWD cars move in the snow 100% flawlessly ... it'll be FWD." *sighs* Cort:34swm."Mr Monte Carlo.Mr Road Trip".pig valve.pacemaker WRMNshowcase.lego.HO.model.MCs.RT.CHD = http://www.chevyasylum.com/cort "Somebody snitched on me" ... *nods* Agreed. And, I will be keeping the '87 MC LS ... it (and the rest of the family) is NOT going anywhere, to my current knowledge, anyway. But, as reliable as it has been, I'm finding it somewhat difficult to "trust" another older car ... you just never know . *nods* Same here. And, Oldsmoboi, I didn't say it couldn't be mind-boggling ... all I noted was that if it is FWD it will be interesting to see what IS considered mind-boggling.... *chuckles* I've thought of that particular Cutlass a time or two, actually . And, yes, "winter beater" does mean shopping used. But, if I get a newer car (i.e. a Charger), it would double as winter beater and road trip warrior.... *sighs* I'm just frustrated that Che@#$%let doesn't have anything newer I want right now..... I wanted that 70s Caprice, but it has been sold. I've been told to actually look for '89 or '90 Caprice with the police packages...haven't found anything that tickles my fancy yet. And, no, no such thing as "enough cars" . LOL! A few years ago, I waited until Christmas Eve to do my shopping. I actually enjoyed it, but haven't done that since..... This year, I was done on Saturday (Dec 22). LOL! Yes, I've been shopping around since mid-summer ... trying to find a car for "winter use" ... so I can keep the '87 MC LS out of the winter weather. I've been looking at used '07 Chargers ... which then would be the road trip car, too. I've also looked for older Caprices ('77-'79) as well as other older Chevys. Yes, absolutely correct. Thing is ... I like the Charger, so I don't think I'd regret owning one.... Ever walk away from something (a car purchase, a relationship, whatever) ... only to wonder, later, why the heck you did? I think I have had ANOTHER one of those moments...maybe. Yesterday (Saturday, Dec 22), I went to a dealership to look at a 2007 Dodge Charger ... inferno red with the DARK GRAY lower door interior panels, the exact color combo I want. The online price was just under $18K. After I looked at it, the guy ran some numbers for me and came up with just under $400/month payment (at the original asking price). I said no. He came back with a sweeter deal ... ~$360/month. I still said no. He then came back with this: $1K off the internet price, 5.5% financing, ~$350/month ... for the '07 Dodge Charger, Inferno Red with DARK GRAY lower interior door panels and only just over 17K miles on it (thus, some factory warranty left). I still said no ... and I walked away. But, why did I walk away? Maybe it had to do with the Charger's engine (2.7 V6). Or, perhaps my true self [the die-hard GM/Chevy guy, despite Chevrolet's insistance on insulting people, which continues today and started "way back when" with the Toyota Nova/Chevy Corolla of the 1980s] came roaring to life and wouldn't let me buy a Dodge. I don't know. The dealership is closed on Monday and Tuesday, so I won't get a chance to go back until late next week ... and, it will probably be gone by then. Oh, well. I still have a 1986 El Camino with the 4.3 TBI that I've yet to see in person, as well as a couple others, including an '85 Chevette (gasp) and, tops on my list, a 1978 Caprice.... *sighs* Cort:34swm."Mr Monte Carlo.Mr Road Trip".pig valve.pacemaker WRMNshowcase.lego.HO.model.MCs.RT.CHD = http://www.chevyasylum.com/cort "Decorations of red on a green Christmas tree" ...
