Maybe it lost a few pounds because it was 3987 in 2019. Can't trust Mercedes-sourced numbers in general, tho.
-
C63 is 4000 lbs (3987) - way to round down. 100 lbs is only worth a tenth of a second in the quarter mile (in the 11-12 sec neighborhood). It'd be unmeasurable on a road course.

Market-based example : Exxon-Mobil is up 50% over last 3 months. But yeah; trying to predict future market events is not that far off playing the one-arm bandits in a casino. -
Yes, true... but no one ever said “the price of an HD pickup is going to go way down in the next few years”.

I always daydreamed about taking a solid early-mid '60s full-size coupe and investing in it like you would buying a new car: audio, brakes, engine/trans, interior, A/C... a rest-mod. Then just use it like a new car. Pick something up for $2500-5000, put $20-25K into it, and you wouldn't lose 50% value in 3 years. Even a Lark 2-dr with a SBC / OD would be neat. 100 million such projects out there that would fit that bill perfectly. Plenty already done. The only obstacle is the mental block of using it daily. If an average new vehicle is $40K, that's a huge budget. That's going to be my go-to plan in the future. Would work well for you, too, Bill. Resto-modded '68-72 GM short bed? Call it 'Generation G'. -

I like the longer fins & the grille on the '60 Dart better. I still remember exactly where I looked at a '60 Dart Seneca 2-dr sedan in the late '80s, backup light deletes and a retro-fitted 383 in it. Shoulda grabbed it up.

Saw that 'worthless' article... but the hyperbole around BEVs at >2% of the market isn't going to make gas stations disappear in our lifetimes. -
Yeesh / YUM!!

Within a single model BE vehicle, none have gotten cheaper yet. Used to be able to get a Model S for $57K.

...in average insurance coverage costs in 49 States, according to nerd wallet (it's the 2nd highest in NY State). And interesting contrast to Elon Musk's statement that insuring a Tesla "should be 20% cheaper than average". Louisiana has the highest average insurance bill for the Model 3, at $3436 / yr. Insanely expensive... funny how I've never read about extravagant insurance costs in a single Tesla review. Seems to be yet one more associated cost that gets swept under the rug (along with charging & maintenance costs). I'm kind of surprised this far into the Tesla story that this has slipped under the radar. As these hidden costs gets more & more exposure, will it dampen the buzz / long term sales (Tesla sales in the U.S. peaked in 2018)?

Googlin' around, I see one source claims a Tesla Model 3 average insurance cost is 50% higher than the national average insurance bill. I've been wondering (as I am here) if that's due to it being a circa 3 sec car to 60. If so, I think it's only fair if advertising nebulous claims of 'gas not bought monies saved' they also include 'grotesque insurance surcharges likely', to balance it out and be truthful. Is a (slo-ooooooooooooow) changeover to BE vehicles going to likewise see a sharp spike in insurance costs? In addition to the MSRP surcharge? Again I remind us here of the general conversation a few years back when autonomous driving cars were the flavor of the month; if vast swaths of the (aging) populous have poor driving skills and are better off not driving at all, is there any sense in putting all those bad drivers in 3 sec cars?? Is anyone worried?

V-Series cars have a MUCH wider appeal than 'GM fans'. Platforms have no effect on emissions. Challenger (the model) has a lower average buyer age than Tesla (as a brand). With everyone vainly gunning for the youth buyer, it'd be wise to keep it going... forever.

I'd have to agree with that. If it were a CUV appliance, who cares. -

I haven't driven a Challenger as of yet. A buddy/customer has a Hemi, but he wouldn't let me teach him how to do burnouts. ? From inside & out, I like the Challenger enough to buy one, yes. They look cool as hell. But if it was neutered enough like we're talking here, then no. -

Who knows? But more to the point; must someone who thinks of themselves as an auto enthusiast BUY an example of every car they like in order to be able to express a preference?? -
