Mustang Mach-E / '63 Impala ~

This is one of many cruxes of the issue. The very fabric of what give the Dodge brand it's appeal is -shocker- exactly how they are built. Look no further than the RISING sales of the long-in-the-tooth Challenger. Gutting it and putting a French platform underneath isn't looked at by any consumers as an upgrade. It started with Daimler- they mis-represented the merger, then they strip-mined Chrysler of capital, inter-corporation billing them for old hardware. They had the capital to build upon what Daimler itself never could- a multi-branded corporation, but they only wanted the one thing they always do; money. I really like the Challenger, despite not being in the market for one. But the day Stelladoro (whateves) guts that Auburn Hills icon like we're talking about here... let's face it, the only reason it's not going the other way (Dodge hardware into Peugeots) is the set-up for future discontinuation.

If a Dodge Challenger comes equipped with Peugeot electric motors, Dodge is out for me. And, I would imagine; for "fans of American muscle".

The new logo is beyond repugnant.

I need less stuff / junk! There's 6 bays here; 2 on the house (no room for autos), and 4 in the back ('40, '59, '64). Have been in 'purge mode' for about 2 years now, but it takes time. Making progress tho- I've thrown away (or sold) stuff this winter I've had for 30-40 years. Just tossed my pay stubs from '89-'00 in the wood stove last night. The 2500HD doesn't fit in any of the bays due to the mirrors (even folded). She's a big 'un. It's a 90-degree turn in for the Malibu, and while the Mrs. used to do that back in the day, that was before a 3rd vehicle was here (Jeep in the background) - it might be a 5-point turn with that there.

Correct; Cadillac has the better judged 'auto pilot' then Tesla, along with better build quality. The old ATS-V had better handling than the Model 3 Performance does now. And the brand is profitable. Cadillac has numerous legs up on Tesla.

Sure, and the audi e-tron should be $40K to compete with the same-size audi gas model. And a Model 3 should be priced to compete with a cam/cord. And a Rivian should be $55K. But that’s not the BE pricing model.

At some point, some degree of economies of scale can tip a manufacturer into the black, but as Tesla’s not there yet... are other OEMs figuring on a few years of being in the red before going black??

My wife has been watching Wayward Pines; I saw a handful of episodes, but then did my usual & jumped ship. I get antsy. Was also watching 11.22.63 - I think I saw 5-6 of the 8 episodes. I liked that one.

Well, they've only just started to post some sporadic 'profits', but more to the point; it may be a very prudent case study to other OEMs looking to go all BE. It certainly would be fascinating to get a peek at internal business case projections from a major OEM.

Automakers load the dinner plate, but the diner may just push the vegetables off to one edge. Was talking on another board, and one 'future embracer' was claiming that the 'GM of old' always dictated what buyers got, but NOW, with BE's, people get what THEY want; that GM has changed. But it's the exact same scenario even worse, since so few people actually buy BE's currently. What dave87rs posted above is the more logical, the most encompassing; find a way to offer both and let the buyer decide. Look at the fractured catalogs of OEMs now- I read in passing that Mercedes has 100 models- that's crazy. Model counts will have to radically decline, but both powertrains can co-exist.

They all looked like they were 20-30 yrs old. People that age very seldom buy new vehicles. Average Tesla buyer age? 54.

One con is GM will be dictating what people will drive rather than offering them a choice. There are others, of course.
