Alternative Fuels & Propulsion RANDOM
balthazar replied to G. David Felt's topic in Electric Vehicles and Alternative Fuels
^ THAT will never be built. -
I've said it here a good dozen times; I think this is a terrible mis-appropriation of the storied nameplate. Sure, the crowd that has come to lean on the overly-simplistic 'A-B-C, 1-2-3' naming mindset will applaud, but it's still a travesty. None-the-less, here it is, threatening to return. Hopefully, it'll be another scenario like the '08 Invicta concept, and it'll remain peacefully dormant.

Most all EVs are overpriced for what you get. Some are going to say there's a strict difference between incentives and MSRP cuts, but ultimately both are discounts to entice buyers. -
You're talking about a vehicle piloting itself; navigating lanes & doing appropriate speed/ braking/ distancing, with some course changes (if within the AD network of allowable operating zones). If following the laws of the roadway you're on, said vehicle should perform exactly the same whether a semi or a sedan. Did you think AD allows a sport sedan to do 90 in a 55 and cut off drivers/pass on the shoulder, but semi's shouldn't be doing that? But the point wasn't the driving dynamics, but hard selling a technology that allows the driver to hover their fingers an inch or 2 from the wheel. That's not even to the level of a gimmick- it's downright annoying. Either steer, or fold your arms and take a nap.

Apparently my '40 has procedures to adjust the valves, tho I've not poked inside the motor and I don't hear any clattering. - - - - - I BESEECH anyone to tell me the benefit of this ("semi-autonomous driving"). It's FAR easier and more comfortable to actually grip something (the wheel) than hold your hands, flaoting, in mid-air. :

Tesla Model Y appears to be plagued with poor sales, despite the company slapping 3 grand on the hoods a few months after their debut. GLOBAL sales thru June stand at 13,415, barely surpassing the Model X (12,461). Meanwhile, the Model 3 stands at 142,346. Chevy Bolt, globally, is at 11,496 thru June. -

Talking to a customer yesterday- he used to have a ‘55 Merc. In his garage (which houses a plastic fantastic SL MB) there are 4 or 5 posters of different ‘55s.

A lot of low-price cars in this era had cloth standard. Vinyl was an upgrade. Not sure about the Biscayne, but I got your wording that IF it had vinyl...

• The I-6s were woefully weak, pre-'71 and post-'71. But the switch to lower compression didn't hurt them much- they already were very low compression, My dad had a '62 Biscayne I-6 / PowerGlide, he's always referred to it as "dangerously slow". • I believe circa '68 the 235 grew to 250 CI. • A/C is going to be uncommon on a Biscayne, even on FL. Hard to relate to today, but these really were (commonly) stripped, super price-conscience basic transports. • In '67, Chevy built 92K Biscaynes, and 54K were 6s (in the heat of muscle cars and 33 cents/gal gas).

Pumpkin-colored, impeccably-clean '72 Monte Carlo.

Hey Robert; is your refrigerator running?

^ Probably correct, tho I note it's also missing it's 'Chevrolet' grille script. Owner may have removed those emblems. Gonna go out on that limb and guess this has 8 slugs under the hood now.

Calm down there, Bill; it's Sunday.

Just like the "cybertruck" (is it tangible or not?), I was thinking the early BMW images of the giant nostrils was a farce. But no. See below; remember when folk would sit in the sun with those folding reflective tanning boards? The rest of it looks straight out of 2005. - - - - - Gonna leave this here...
