Nissan News: Nissan Ariya EV Possibly Marks A Comeback
I've not yet seen any 'passion' put forth in EVs. Maybe the Rivian, but I have not seen the concept in person, so I have to reserve judgement.

^ If so, and especially given the volume of 3-yr leases, I would think the average vehicle age would be a fraction of the 11-12 years it is. I believe the above is overstated. And since the so-called 'planned obsolescence' is dead due to stagnation & homogenization ("arent that much different"), plus ever-creeping MSRPs, that number is going to edge higher, not lower. If anything; LEASING is where that cache of consumers resides. Buyers keep far longer (so sez the guy in a 16 yr old truck).- 32 replies

Article is typical journalistic garbage. [Don't know what I was expecting; it's 'thetruthabout cars' after all]. Porsche & Cadillac were separated by SEVEN POINTS. out of 881. That's a difference of 0.008%. What's the margin of error again? The Truth About Cars? Meh. Unfortunately, too many people will read that, sans critical thinking, and think 'yuc-yuc, look at poor, crappy Cadillac! Can't compete with luxury brands, nope-nope!'- Quick Drive: 2020 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro CrewMax
$55K? For a toyoter?? >>"On one hand, this makes the Tundra a very reliable and dependable truck. "<< Does it?- 94 replies

‘70 Judge. Ram Air III 400, or RA IV 400 optional. Not sure offhand if you could get the 455 on a ‘70 J. RA III was underrated at 366 HP. Calculations have put this engine at about 410 actual. RA IV was laughably rated at 370. IV's have round port, hi-flow heads; a huge difference. These were putting out around 450, IIRC.- Random Thoughts Thread
^ That's been the case for about 20 years now. I've been stating we're in the 98th percentile of automotive design progress for years.- July Car Spotter

Excluding known , verified lemons, most any post-war vehicle can go 250K with good maintenance. It's not a rarity. There's a number of documented cars from the '30s going 500K. Pontiac built excellent V8 motors.- Random Thoughts Thread

From CarsGuide: "Has huge payload - 1300 kg, bit wonder if its capable of actually coping with this much". 235kW 5.7L, 3400 lbs, 215 tires. Here's the One-Tonner's rear springs: Note there's only 3 leaves, and the overrider pack (the straight leaves) are thicker than the mains. Theses aren't even equal to the spring pack on my 3/4-ton 2500HD. This vehicle is seriously over-rated as to capacity.- Random Thoughts Thread
The tonnage classification system used to be pretty whacked, not sure how it came about. My '40 is a 1.5-ton, with it's doubled frame it's 2-ton. But it was registered when new at just under 8 tons loaded (15,955 lbs, with the base cab/chassis weighing 3985 lbs). See what I mean- wildly off. I have no info on when/how trucks were so graded in AU, but the above sure doesn't look beefier than a half-ton (modern). It's an El Camino w/ a flatbed.- Random Thoughts Thread
google sez Ford started the ute in Australia in '32. Of course- these car-based vehicles were their only 'trucks', whereas Ford started with trucks in the U.S. with his first auto company in 1899.- Random Thoughts Thread
If ANY image of a Native American is 'potentially offensive', one is effectively 'eradicating' any public presence by eliminating every symbol. As usual, the hysterical over-react and speak for others, making unilateral demands. The Redskins logo & name was designed with prominent input from Native Americans, who have polled as being largely in favor of it. Doesn't matter to the hysterical. I can see an argument for Aunt Jemima (I'm not in that camp), but once the Land O Lakes Native American woman was kidnapped off the packaging, I stopped trying to see other side's 'logic'. I type this wearing a vintage-harkening t-shirt which has the Indian Head logo & 'PONTIAC" on it. Ironically for some, guess under what president the choice 'negro' was first removed from the US Census? I actually agree with this (and Morgan Freeman) : stop talking about it. Focus is breeding division. How can you have 'equality' (whatever that's defined as) when every segment of society is getting labeled?- Random Thoughts Thread
Also; variable. “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure”. Now, if we could all acknowledge that hand-in-hand with ‘live & let live’ (just don’t hurt one another), I think most of the social issues could work themselves out- Random Thoughts Thread
Probably because ‘reality’ is different for different folks.- Alternative Fuels & Propulsion RANDOM
Two different sources I read said the blades are NOT recyclable. Are they carbon fiber? Perhaps new ones are coming that will be... but why they weren't from the beginning is troubling and frankly; par for the course.- Alternative Fuels & Propulsion RANDOM
Subsidies do not "look". Point is, the ROI with 6000+ products is highly valuable. All wind power can do is generate electricity. Not that that's bad or not worthwhile, but the costs, waste & inefficiency there still need a lot of improvement. I think we'll get there, and I like the concept, I'm just not convinced it's optimally developed yet. I don't think anyone is. Yet- it's relatively simple, so it should be. With the relative youth of the industry, and the focus on renewability/efficiency, how can this still be? :[- Random Thoughts Thread

It’s not that it’s ‘new’; but that’s it’s an opportunity to macro-focus on, then dismiss the entire rest of the vehicle because of it!- 32 replies
