  1. ELR, as beautiful as many find it, needed to be a '2.0' over the Volt- that's been pretty well established. CT6 is not comparable, and what little we do know, as far as the general criticism of the ELR went (performance), the CT6 (on paper) has handily covered. 740i weighs (a calculated) 380 lbs MORE & has 85 LESS HP. I'm not forseeing a "total Maybach" with the CT6… but a LOT of details remain to be seen.
  2. C'mon, you slugs; it's Saturday already!
  3. Like you mentioned; the Jag has light weight, V8s, nice interior and it does not sell. Of course, Jaguars have a long running association with poor engineering/assembly. Still… perhaps -like the above allusion- it is NOT about not having a V8 @ launch…. no singular feature necessarily 'makes or breaks' a model's segment success. After all, doesn't BMW sell a ton more 740s than 750s? If I bother to notice, the 7 in front of me is always a 6-banger. CT6 is NOT burdened by NOT having Particular Feature X. IE; if there is no V8 at launch, how it is 'deficient' competing against all the 740I 6-cylinder buyers??
  4. By "fine", you mean handily outselling the GL, right?
  5. Once GM is no longer required to stock parts, IE: after 10 years, AND their in-house stock is gone, they can make a few bucks licensing repros, no? 1987 is almost an old truck…

  7. S-class is a bloated barge- isn't everything lighter than it? 3781 is LIGHT for a relative 'large' car. So, best power/weight ratio for a 6 in this class?
  8. I can't get over that audi dash; FOUR differently-shaped HVA/C vents; really?? Makes one dizzy. Look to the right, where the 'wood' ends in front of the passenger. Why does it taper upward like that; it aligns/flows with nothing! So bizarre & random, such questionable design… yet I'm supposed to rave about audi interiors?
  9. Unfortunately for the German brands, their owner loyalty numbers aren't great (generally in the low 30% range- which is partly the reason they're all moving downmarket), so there's PLENTY of people coming out of a MB/BMW/Audi looking for new model. This is yet another choice in the segment and as they say; choice is good!
  10. Changed the pic: In retrospect, ^ this move is generally seen as 'cheaping out' vs. a true convertible. Note that somehow Rambler figured out how to do a properly stowed top 65 years ago. Good luck, fiat, open a book once in a while. - - - - - Curious as to the definition of "small family" because the fiat lends new dimension to the descriptor "tight" WRT interior room. Packaging is good, but who cares about exterior relative size when you are eating your kneecaps in the back seat.
  11. Interior is clean but definitely on the bland side. Nice to see more luxury OEMs flowing the dash into the doors, something Cadillac has done often over a long time running.
  12. ^ Disagree. Superior had roof lights from the coach builder, but that's a Meteor (high top), which did not. The quarter windows also point to ambulance. Meteor also build hearses, with closed quarters & landau bars.
  13. Happy St. Patrick's Day, now get guessing!! 1.) What type of brake is this & what production car was it found on? 2.) How were this Olds and this Mercury legally involved with each other? 3.) The 1969 Mercury Cyclone SPoiler II was built in versions honoring which 2 famous racers? 4.) Which of these early auto brands was NOT an actual intended/production car? Long Silent McQuestion Fear Naught Schluderschimdt Schworm Skiddoodler 5.) Which of these state names was NOT featured on an early proposed or built auto brand? Massachusetts Pennsylvania Kentucky California Delaware Indiana View full article

  15. OK, it's Tuesday. Here's the answer to the unanswered question #3 for this installment : Fuel injection emblem for full-size '59 Chevys. Supposedly extremely rare (this emblem was new to me last week), one online unverified source said 19 cars built in '59 (non-Corvette) with FI.
  16. ^ OK… so again; we wait & see. BTW, mercedees e-class sedan is 192" and the CLS is 194". "That doesn't make any sense; the 'same car' yet one is $17000 more- no wonder 'no one' buys them."
  17. You supposing based on speculation. What is known is the Avenir is 204" on the same platform. CT6 should be over 200". CT6 is going to be a low-volume car. But regardless, why are you equating overall length with MSRP???
  18. DD : have to give it to you here because you are right on it. The ad was from the performance models Scat Pack 8-page ad from 1971; that's a 'one of none' '71 Challenger T/A. Dodge did not build a '71 T/A. - - - - - Now, someone guess on #3….
  19. 'Self-fufilling' production contracts. They had long-running deals with Nash & AMC; looking to up business even more. If AMC has bitten, the pony car segment might have gone differently. I for one sure would have liked to see AMC's fledgling foray into sporty vehicles extended (both ways) chronologically.
  20. Vega drag car (slicks, front runners, gauges on the cowl, nice paint) idle into highway gas station & pop the hatch to access the fuel cell. 68 Dodge Coronet R/T coupe, grey primer, huge hood bulge, parked at strip mall. '63 Studebaker Lark sedan, champagne color, restored, rolling.
  21. DD : "one of the Ford Panther cars?" Correct- source I saw said a cassette was avail on the 2011 Crown Vic, 1 yr after the lexus SC last had it. WM : Correct on the Budd XR-400 'Mustang'. The 'R' in 'XR' signified 'Rambler', 'XR-400' was swapped to 'Mustang' after AMC walked. DD : "Wrong grille on the challenger?" Can you clarify? - - - - - We're zeroing in on # 5… that leaves #3 unscathed.
  22. • Yes there was a Nash Rambler, then Rambler became it's own brand when Nash & Hudson merged… But technically that's 2 brands and only 2 incarnations. Z-06 got the answer to #2... • The cassette deck was factory installed as an option after the last lexus SC had it. • ocn: incorrect. A Challenger fan should notice something right off…..
  23. IMO, the main defect of Cadillac's (& GM in general) marketing is the scarcity of it.
  24. "Maybe its an option, not as standard equipment like the SC." maybe… "#5: Gas cap on the wrong side" : incorrect.
