  1. Buick did the curved dash in the boattail Rivs, Pontiac did it earlier in the '69 GP. I stared too long at that exact same wheel in our '77 Safari. Not a fan of this era, tho these barges tend to be cheap enough once worn down to be readily mined for their cubes....
  2. Normally I really dislike pastels, and this one is lifted straight from the '50s.... but for some reason, the cream/seafoam green, rims & redlines, and all that glass is working for me. To really set it off, it should have a different color interior tho, but the outside is getting a thumbs up here.
  3. Dad has a Lucerne, He's had no issues that I know of, and has also gotten over 30 on the highway. I drove it 1 time for a decent trip, it's much like Paulie said- quiet, soft, serene, a cruiser. But it's far too overstuffed for my liking. The interior room is very nice tho. I will get a report on issues, quality, miles from Dad & update here.
  4. If Chevy could put the ZL1 engine in a RWD Impala, I could see a legitimate nameplate of 'Z11'. Not sure a 300-esque HP car with lower body skirts & 1" larger rims is worth sullying the heritage, otherwise; just make up some other Zxx moniker. Like 'Z05' (or half of a Z11).
  5. I never understood -or found attractive- all that lower body tumblehome. Just doesn't make any aesthetic sense. Must have the AWD option- the bottom of the frt bumper is above the wheel centers. You get 60% of the tread exposed, plus the lower A-arms AND the front crossmember. Prolly can read the oil filter P/N with some binoculars. This era of GM full-size design is just so half-hearted/assed. Cheers on the condition/miles, jeers on the car itself.
  6. I've still only seen right about 4 fiat 500s - they are NOT moving in central Jersey. Must be too appliance-esque for this region. As far as looks go- I think the Spark is hideous... tho I don't think I've seen ANY yet in person. IMO, the fiat is bland & homogenous, not distinctive other than it's size. And as far as that goes, I think the IQ would catch more eyes than the 500 here. I've seen 1 IQ on the dealer lawn.
  7. I'd rather have a luxurious pick-up in my marque's catalog, than a cheap, stripper cargo van!
  8. The 3 or so radio ads I hear locally only scream DEALDEALDEAL, never anything about the product.
  9. All right- I posted a LaSalle 'bullet' ornament. IIRC, it was a '39. Someone else post one.
  10. This & the Checker.... 2 aesthetically-challenged, tough-to-love peas in a pod. As DD said; cheers for wierdness.
  11. ^ "nobody buys them". No; the middle finger was the H1, this is just pure evidence mercedees is going in multiple directions at once.
  12. ^ It was a bit less than $200 more than a Biscayne wagon. You did get better seating position & visibility, straight-cut rear doors, flat floors and a LOT of interior space on a relatively shorter exterior. Checker billed them as having 30% larger interiors than any other 4-dr sedan. I've heard tell the seats were very comfortable (I've never sat in one personally). Checkers were also well-renowned for their durability. ... but yea. Total '71 Checker production was approx 4500 units.
  13. AT least this one has the pre-IMPACT! bumpers. As a wagon, they are quite uncommon, ESP at this point in time. I too would like to find something to love here.... but the blah interior kinda holds that up. I don't recall seeing a Checker wagon in person. Have to vote 'cheers' due to the rarity.
  14. Putting aside my personal preferences here, it'd be nice to see a truly large car, esp width.
  15. OMG- this thing is STILL in production?? With the original Beetle finally getting thrown in a 6-ft deep hole, the mantle of 'Hoariest Ancient Thing' now falls on the benz-vagon. The body hardware...... All the panache & class of a Lego build....
  16. 0.26 secs (you'll have to pause/advance it) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDDiMqNDSpc
  17. ^ I'd absolutely get behind that!
  18. I had a '64 Merc (Park Lane Marauder) for a short while, with bucket & console, it was a neatly styled car in & out, not overstuffed with plastics & vinyls either. With the 390, it moved out. 10X the car the '69 was.
  19. A '64 would be interesting. Stylistically, a '69 is a universal blunt object.
  20. If it was a coupe, the price would be double that, and it'd sell. Amazing time capsule. Wonderous.
  21. There were a bunch of 'icky' colors in the 70s, but the same applies to many decades, except for the '90s-now because they're all so bland. I have period Cadillac ads where a car is pastel yellow, and another pastel green. Blorf. But I like that copper color ("Saddle Firemist"); it's butch.
  22. cube is everything wrong with modern auto design. No efforts in engineering or aesthetics could make one remotely interesting.
  23. Nice to see one survive, but still a flat 'no' in my personal book.
