  1. That means it's peak is 260, and it delivers 234 or higher between 1500 & 5800. TRQ is RPM dependant but the peak is not necc at 1500... or am I misreading your question?
  2. Pretty nice Mark there, Olds; they still had real style then. • • • Saw a circa '66 Rambler Classic, white sedan, decent shape, regular driver parked on side street.
  3. From that horrible period in Detroit Iron where 'Malaise DeLuxe' came standard on every model !
  4. ^ So performance doesn't matter in the XK... they might as well put a TATA 1.3L 4 in there then.
  5. ^ That's why they're irrelevant.
  6. Everyone thinks they can drive well, too. Not the general consensus tho, it seems. Because I've yet to see any 'expert' opinion against hands-free conversations.
  7. These spy shots are completely pointless- that could be a 2001 Silverado under there.
  8. ^ It's an interesting idea tho- some people can handle talking & driving fine -it is not like DUI in that respect. Wonder if there could be a way to test & pass that- it's merely another skill set. Texting is another issue tho.
  9. ^ With a 50 year run still ongoing, I would be utterly shocked if it was discontinued. doesn't look like something they're thinking about ditching anytime in the next... 25 years.
  10. B-b-but... the other current engine is an Ancient Pushrod Monstrosity, how can ANYONE overlook it ???? Dear God, it's 2011!
  11. So that's 2 things Kaiser stylistically gave to autodom: super over-elongated taillights, and BMW's pirated "Kaiser kink". Kaiser called them "Safety-Glow Taillights".
  12. I don't like the idea of the 2.8 liter, that belongs in a Mini, not a BMW.
  13. Kaisers have been most excellent..... at lending their bits to hot rods over time. That rear overrrider; hawt stuff Cheers.
  14. ^ DINGDINGDING! - that's the answer I was looking for. Hence the wording "the first"; the trick being I was referring to Chevrolet the man, not Chevy the car division; I could not use "their first". Louis Chevrolet did indeed build a DOHC, 4-valve/cyl engine for the '20 Indy 500. Frontenac was his second auto company after he left Chevrolet, tho he & his brother also ran the Chevrolet Brothers Manufacturing Co, making numerous parts, ironically perhaps, primarily for the Model T, all as mentioned above. Nice work, rjbartop!
  15. Well, in actuality it is the Germans that are starting to compete with acura; the FWD luxury segment is fixed to get down right crowded...
  16. Actually, who really cares what the engine specs are for Bentley in the last 3 minutes? No Bentley owner has any remote idea how to open their car's hood anyway.
  17. Bentley is "all about" pushrods, changing that now is going to KILL sales (because everybody shops with valve actuation as their prime directive, don'tcha kno).
  18. 1953 CORVETTE ???!?!?!?
  19. I was just reading that as of a week or so ago, exactly zero had been delivered. Imagine being in production, and effecting a price hike before car #0001 is even in customer #0001's hands.
  20. '70 Olds 442 :: Base: 455cu in, 4-bbl, 10.50 CR, 365 HP @5000, 500 TRQ @3200 W-30: 455cu in, 4bbl, 10.50 CR, 370 HP @5200, 500 TRQ @3600 '70 Buick GS :: Base: 455cu in, 4-bbl, 10.50 CR, 350 HP @4600, 510 TRQ @2800 Stage 1: 455cu in, 4bbl, 10.50 CR, 360 HP @5200, 510 TRQ @2800 • • • Of course, you can't go by these ratings alone, esp when you look at the Buick. Manufacturers shied away from "400 HP" in general, and most calculations of the 455 STG1 were 400-425. It was a half second quicker that the GS455. So we move to quarter mile tests as a better indicator. Of course, there were varying degrees of factory tuning going on, but not always. Perhaps something can still be learned here Buick 455STG1 ranks #9, Olds 455 W-30 ranks #42. :shrugs: Being active in the musclecar/performance arena of Detroit iron, I can tell you the Buicks are often dubbed 'Hemi Killers', and not lightly. Olds 455s do NOT have the same rep to the same degree.
  21. Hudson, there is a gross preponderance online for the terms "always" and "never" to apply, in reality, only to the last 6 months, 2 years, last 10, and so forth... regardless if the history in question goes back 100+. Sad, isn't it?

I have to dig some fence post holes.... if the ground doesn't start seriously freezing by the time the permit comes thru. >:[ I'd like to to stay above freezing at night for another 3-4 weeks.... and 55 during the days would be nice, too.
  23. Nope- never decorated a car for a holiday. I'm not a huge 'holiday fan'... My F-150 flew a small American flag decal in the rear window, but I haven't gotten around to putting one on the Silverado.
