  1. I was just reading that as of a week or so ago, exactly zero had been delivered. Imagine being in production, and effecting a price hike before car #0001 is even in customer #0001's hands.
  2. '70 Olds 442 :: Base: 455cu in, 4-bbl, 10.50 CR, 365 HP @5000, 500 TRQ @3200 W-30: 455cu in, 4bbl, 10.50 CR, 370 HP @5200, 500 TRQ @3600 '70 Buick GS :: Base: 455cu in, 4-bbl, 10.50 CR, 350 HP @4600, 510 TRQ @2800 Stage 1: 455cu in, 4bbl, 10.50 CR, 360 HP @5200, 510 TRQ @2800 • • • Of course, you can't go by these ratings alone, esp when you look at the Buick. Manufacturers shied away from "400 HP" in general, and most calculations of the 455 STG1 were 400-425. It was a half second quicker that the GS455. So we move to quarter mile tests as a better indicator. Of course, there were varying degrees of factory tuning going on, but not always. Perhaps something can still be learned here Buick 455STG1 ranks #9, Olds 455 W-30 ranks #42. :shrugs: Being active in the musclecar/performance arena of Detroit iron, I can tell you the Buicks are often dubbed 'Hemi Killers', and not lightly. Olds 455s do NOT have the same rep to the same degree.
  3. Hudson, there is a gross preponderance online for the terms "always" and "never" to apply, in reality, only to the last 6 months, 2 years, last 10, and so forth... regardless if the history in question goes back 100+. Sad, isn't it?
  4. I have to dig some fence post holes.... if the ground doesn't start seriously freezing by the time the permit comes thru. >:[ I'd like to to stay above freezing at night for another 3-4 weeks.... and 55 during the days would be nice, too.
  5. Nope- never decorated a car for a holiday. I'm not a huge 'holiday fan'... My F-150 flew a small American flag decal in the rear window, but I haven't gotten around to putting one on the Silverado.
  6. inline engines are so.... 1950. Ancient, outmoded architecture...
  7. ^ That's why the Buicks handed the Olds's their asses- Buick had a sweet short stroke 455. Olds' were for boulevard cruising...
  8. I see no mention of how the valves are actuated in this 'new', down-market motor. No one can seriously consider this vehicle for purchase until it is known widely how the valves are actuated.
  9. Nose is getting as bulky & long as most FWD generica. Proboscis monkey huge. From that tiny image, the interior (except the seats) looks quite 1990. mercedees no longer has any direction stylistically, but that's been evident for some time. Hope there's a V6 and a diesel and a turbo 4 option! Otherwise, don't bother! Also wonder when mercedees will build a FWD A-class-platform version....
  10. '70 Buick GS455 hardtop, medium brown, super clean, parked at the same vintage bodyshop with... '70 Merc Cougar Eliminator hardtop, bright orange, super clean, parked.
  11. In '61, the first year for the SS package, it was only an appearance option; no power train was specified. Beginning in '62, the SS started to include Hi-Po engine options, and one can see sedans or wagons not generally fitting that 'mold' of performance car, or as least not nearly as much as a coupe or convertible.
  12. Early '60s Impy SS sedan or wagon is indeed a strange idea AFA I know. I would swear they were not RPO.
  13. Perhaps they were given to a member of your family, or even picked up 2nd hand rather than being monogramed for the family member directly. I have a TON of stuff that were I suddenly gone all SORTS of questions as to 'why' & 'how' I had it would bubble up.
  14. jeers. I'm no 'factory original' prude, but this is not working for me.
  15. When I got my '94 F-150, one of the things I planned on doing, once the exhaust rotted out, was replacing the muffler with a performance one. 15 yrs & 146K miles later, and the factory system was still 100%. I would agree on the brake & fuel lines.
  16. Lowering the roof an inch or so should be done on all the BMW 4-dr sedans (like this is)- why have 2 different sedan designs? And drop the name shell game; no one is fooled by it. Has a bunch of unrefined design elements, but overall it's the same ol, same ol' BMW, so the loyalists won't be confused. Still, that front fender crease really does look like accident damage.
  17. The '59 pickup in the auction I linked went for $180, but it was pretty rough. The '59 Apache panel truck was also rough, but it stirred the imagination pretty well: $400.
  18. Hmmm... should I bring 3 or 4 dollars & a trailer? '59 looks like something is bent in the cab area; the roof is slanting downward- front end impact?? '69 'bird is interesting, but too new for me. One of these days a B-59 will turn up at a local auction. Maybe. We'll see how busy a 2-wk before X-mas auction is. I love auctions.
  19. I've never liked O-60s, but for the sheer vintage here: cheers.
  20. ^ I would be curious to see dummy impact/ brain sloshing data on that...
  21. ^ Rog, going to check out a '59 pickup at an auction in Chesterfield tomm. There's a panel truck there too, tho I am not positive on the yr/make from the pic. http://www.auctionzip.com/cgi-bin/photopanel.cgi?listingid=1290073&category=0&zip=08902&kwd=
  22. >>"The hope is in the future, traffic lights will be able to send the information to vehicles and have the vehicles make decisions on what to. This will help reduce the number of accidents at intersections."<< NO THANK YOU!!
  23. They could do that with a mercedes s-class.... oh wait.....
  24. I can't bring myself to watch it...
  25. Only one I ever haunt is the Forward Look board; well outside of the '38's era. Will keep it in mind tho, Camino.
