  1. ^ Agreed. Awful, and why so many like 'em is beyond me. Whaaaa????
  2. They are. The only way they are sometimes sortof palatable is when the bumper stays where it is, like: This integration is even better, I actually like this one... but it's a concept: Nothing comes to mind done this nice as OEM. And if it's on ANYTHING newer than about 1958, forget it.
  3. All grotesque, but in a bad way. I'm Jonesing for 'good grotesque'...
  4. These are NOT "alternatives" in the sense of substitutes...
  5. Count me in as also despising continental kits.
  6. How on Earth do you think you know that?
  7. I drove a 383 Chrysler 90 miles an hour down a gravel road sideways once (intentionally). Now we're talkin' white-knuckled fun!
  8. ^ I'm not against that theory... but GM made a LO-OOOOT of 2nd gens. Still; premium, equipped models should bring good money.... but I'm still reeling that a '78 could possibly get $76K. Do us a favor and post here if it sells, if you can post the sale price. Just trying to keep a cursory tab on the market.
  9. Just imagine it with a stainless steel bed in the back
  10. What a treat to be around such a gorgeous stable of iron! Prices seem a bit 2006, but if you can get them.... The '78 @ 76K is a mind blower, IMO. Agree with Roger & you FOG; the '57 has some incredible detailing and special touches. What a machine...
  11. Well, The B-59 has a 9.75"er, so there!
  12. I was behind a recent Wrangler this evening and the rear sure looked to be about a 6"er under there; TINY! I pay no attention to Jeeps in general, but it was visually surprising.
  13. BMW & mercedes are without question mainstream within their segment- they flood the global market with retail & fleet sales and (bleed their own legacy with more & more niche models to make up for the weakening leadership in their core models). Mainstream = commonplace. They are in no way exclusive or uncommon. Whether the platform originated with the 7-series or the 5-series or the RR, they share platforms. This fact addresses smk's blanket generalization; that huge price differences on the same platform are 'weak' & 'lame'. His judgement, not mine.
  14. Another shot of the Request, with a production '56 in the background : And if you compare the Predictor to the following in-house styling direction, you'd clamor for the Predictor: Packard Styling was really pared down to a few men and the rumors were swirling when these were penned, so....
  15. Well... they were thinking about a return to the classic Packard grille shape, which was more upright than the '50s horizontal version was. Reportedly --and this is the reason the Request was built-- there were considerable... requests for Packard to do so. '55 Request: ^ I LOVE this car, I think it's pulled off tremendously well (classic grille on (then) modern envelope). I especially love grillework that wraps under the front fascia. Giggity. This car screams 'luxury' in a way no s-class ever could dream of. Predictor looks somewhat ungainly here: http://www.flickr.co...ard/5519038364/ • • • RE the Predictor & WMJ's contention it could be production from the rear quarter view, I would agree, witness :
  16. My money was on either ocnblu or Cube, and Cubitar got it. '56 Packard Predictor, roofline inspired by the '52 Packard Balboa (Yo!), I do believe: Note the monstrous degree of stylistic change from 1952 to 1956 - we'll never see that degree of change within even 10 years ever again.
  17. Just imagine if you could get EVERYTHING, EVER MADE (or PROPOSED), at ANY TIME, FOREVER, just for YOU....
  18. ^ {sssss} Oooooo, let's let it ride a bit, cause I got your answers right here.
  19. I'm obviously excluded here
  20. Remember; you're the SBC of C&G- keeps on running. Rest hard & get well ASAP.
  21. Design does nothing for me; it's both derivative & overwraught (tho it's not terrible). 2,700 lbs; I'll believe it when it hits the showroom.
  22. That certainly describes more than 1 group.
  23. Classics: '56 Packard. What a strange way to evoke a '57 Chrysler, by using iconic tails from a completely different car. The only bits worth saving on it.
  24. You mean like the joke the 7-series is ($71K) on the 5-series platform ($46K) ??
