5 is not a big number. -
Get it man. Life is short and the deal is sweet.

I knew you would come to my rescue. I did not know about the Twin-H dual carbs.

Well Jules Verne dreamed about going to moon. Little did he know that more than 100 years later someone actually would land there.

[source: Car and Driver] 2010 Chevrolet Camaro V6 LT vs. 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8 V6 Battle of the sixes: Who'd have guessed that the Camaro V-6's most earnest competitor would hail from from Ulsan, Korea, and not Detroit? 1. Camaro V6 LT Highs: Superb ride-and-handling trade-off, styling that guarantees smiles. Lows: Ugly dash graining, impossible to heel-and-toe, needs to lose weight. The Verdict: The first V-6 pony car we'd marry in a minute. 2. Hyundai Genesis 3.8 Highs: Tenacious grip, race-car brakes, fast-revving V-6. Lows: Can't be shifted smoothly, bucking-bronco ride. The Verdict: A playful pony car that needs one more generation of refinement.

[source: Motor Authority] Spy shots: Next-gen Chevrolet Aveo takes to the 'Ring The Chevrolet Beat has been paraded around the last several auto shows as the forerunner to the production Spark hatchback revealed at March's Geneva Motor Show, to sit just below the Aveo as Chevy's smallest car. Now spy photos of a Spark-styled but slightly larger vehicle have been captured as it undergoes testing at Germany's notorious Nurburgring circuit and is thought to be the next-generation Aveo. Chevrolet badges are clearly seen underneath stickers on the wheels, leaving little doubt as to its brand identity, and given Chevrolet's lineup, the place for a car slightly bigger than the Spark is where the Aveo currently sits. The 2009 Aveo just began North American production in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, in August of last year, but GM could already be working on a replacement. The car spotted definitely shares traits with the Spark, possibly reflecting a next-generation styling direction for Chevrolet's small global cars. The stacked double-circle tail lights, rear hatch/spoiler area and sloping roof line are all very similar between the two. Character lines along the side of the car in the spy shots are different from the spark, however, indicating its size difference and possible helping to differentiate the two stylistically. The headlights are also different, with two side-by-side circular lamps instead of the Spark's giant tear-drop shaped unit. The interior of the car spotted is very nearly identical to the Spark, however, especially around the instrument panel and center stack area, again possibly reflecting a new interior brand identity. Whatever the new car's name and eventual role may be, it's clear Chevrolet has something in the works, though it's not likely to hit the streets until 2010 at the earliest. Yes. I would love to own the 305 with the Stage VII or whatever it was called which made close to 210 hp. The car is gorgeous.

As always GM is late to the party.

Yesterday was a "Cut By an Acura Integra Day." Not one, not two, not three but six different Acura Integras (one brown, three whites, one blue and one red) cut in front of me at different locations on my way back from a site in a distance of only 96 miles.

+1. I had read a nice book on final years of Conrail and the efficacy of federalization.

I agree

Again invalid. I was comparing the Corvette with its competition, NOT Camaro. I have bitched about 3ers being overweight, and Mercedes are something I have never cared about, so I do not care if they weigh as much as a feather. The point is GM CAN make cars structurally rigid without increasing their weight, but somehow not enough engineering went into Zeta.

I would love to see the Calibra coupe with it as a Buick. I had posted about it, a while ago. Cannot find the link - where is Satty? Here is the link to the original German article translated in English with a render. The translation is horrible. Another render:

True that, but the exact same news with the same information appears on germancarmagazine.com. I think it is where motorauthority linked it to.

It Finishes Among the Backbenchers in German Quality Survey. [source: MotorAuthority] German Cars Tops In Latest ADAC Breakdown Statistics Reliability is the main concern for most car buyers, and for obvious reason - for such a large investment, the car better start up and take you where you need to go. And while all brands have their issues, it turns out German cars fared best this time around, mirroring last year's results. The turnaround is something of an upset, since Japanese cars dominated most of the previous decade in reliability surveys. The Germans have definitely upped their game, however, with Audi at the leading edge. The Audi A2, A3 and A6 all ranked tops in their classes, though Mercedes-Benz's C-Class just edged out the Audi A4 in the mid-size sedan class. BMW's cars also showed well, with the X3 taking its class, the 3-series convertible and coupe taking the sports car/convertible class and the 5-series ranking second behind the A6 in the large sedan class. Japanese brands were nearly absent from many lists, getting only one car in the top 5 in any class - the Toyota Aygo, which placed second behind the A2. The bottom rungs of the classes weren't all Japanese either, however, with Korean, French and U.S. brands taking most of the lower rungs, especially Ford, Opel, Renault and Hyundai. The ADAC Breakdown Statistics information is compiled by analyzing the 2.46 million qualifying call-outs of the ADAC roadside assistance team for the calendar year 2008. To be considered, a vehicle must have been manufactured between 2003-2008, registered in volumes of at least 10,000 in Germany and largely unchanged for at least the past three years - ruling out brand-new cars' effect on the previous model's statistics.

[source: Wall Street Journal] Renault, Geely Consider Deals for GM Units General Motors Corp. is in talks about potentially turning its Saturn division over to Renault SA, allowing the French auto maker to use the brand as a launching pad for growth in North America, two people familiar with the matter said. Meanwhile, Geely Automobile Holdings Ltd. has submitted a bid to acquire GM's Saab unit, people familiar with the situation said. Renault is one of several auto makers and other suitors interested in taking Saturn over from GM. The U.S. auto maker is surviving on $15.4 billion in government loans and is under pressure to restructure its balance sheet, union contracts and operations by June 1, or face a bankruptcy filing. GM is considering several options for Saturn, including closing the brand all together. Any buyer of the Saturn division likely wouldn't put direct cash in the deal, but would need to take on liabilities and the costs of running the business, including production. Under a deal with Renault -- which controls Japan's Nissan Motor Corp. and South Korea's Samsung Motors -- the French auto maker could eventually use the Saturn network of 400-plus dealers to sell its own cars, including vehicles made by Renault or Samsung and sold as Saturns, the people familiar with the matter said. The Saturn brand has a strong reputation for customer service but has been hindered under GM's ownership due to a lack of consistent innovation. By essentially giving the brand to another auto maker, GM could preserve jobs in the U.S. and avoid the messy dispute with dealers that could come if GM just killed Saturn. Renault could eventually build Saturn vehicles in the U.S. if the brand supports solid sales volumes, a person said. But any move with Saturn needs the blessing of the U.S. Treasury Department. Renault's control of Saturn could help further Chief Executive Carlos Ghosn's goal of getting a better foothold in the U.S. market. The company already boasts a large presence in the region thanks to Nissan's sprawling operations based in Tennessee, but capturing Saturn would give Mr. Ghosn an American brand and an outlet for vehicles designed in Korea or Europe that could compete in the U.S. when it comes to meeting the demand for fuel-efficiency or value. In recent years, Mr. Ghosn has held alliance negotiations with GM and Chrysler but failed to strike a deal. In 2006, after spending months researching a tie-up, GM rejected a proposed equity alliance with Renault-Nissan, saying that the deal was better for Mr. Ghosn than GM. GM is looking to scale back operations in the U.S. after running out of cash in December and has been searching for a buyer of the 20-year-old Saturn business since February. GM currently plans to quit building Saturn's five models by the end of this year, effectively choking off the supply for dealers. Some of these dealers have been working to save Saturn by forming investor groups or helping GM find a buyer for the brand. GM may be open to building Saturn products on a contract basis under the right circumstances. GM also is in talks with potential suitors for its Hummer brand in the U.S., and its Opel divisions in Germany. Geely is one of "three to four" serious bidders for Saab and appears to be the only bidder from China, one of the people familiar with the situation said. He said a second Chinese auto maker considered bidding but didn't follow through with an offer. A team of executives from Geely traveled to Sweden during the past few weeks to tour Saab's production and research-and-development facilities, and to meet with members of the Swedish auto maker's management team, according to two people familiar with the situation. Geely then submitted a bid for Saab, the people said. Details of Geely's bid couldn't immediately be determined. A Geely spokesman declined to comment. In addition to Renault, GM is in talks about Saturn with Detroit auto titan Roger Penske, who could eventually be part of a Renault agreement or a separate deal with another auto maker. Mr. Penske is one of the world's largest auto dealers through his ownership of Penske Auto Group. He also owns a logistics company and has a major presence in auto racing.

[source: Left Lane News] GM to Issue Additional Shares to Pay Off Debt A filing with United States securities regulators has revealed that General Motors will issue up to 60 billion additional shares in an attempt to pay of government, bondholder and union debts. The plans would essentially wipe out the holdings of its remaining shareholders - and since the United States government will become the majority shareholder, only the Treasury's approval would be necessary. Analysts have long predicted that GM shares will be essentially worthless regardless of how the automaker restructures; this massive, unusual issuance of stock would further devalue current shareholders' stake. Stock investors would have just 1 percent of the restructured automaker. The filing says that once its bondholders and the union have been paid off, it would unleash a 1-for-100 reverse stock split; existing shareholders would be wiped out. GM's stock is already down about 43 percent since the beginning of 2009, trading under $2.00. The automaker's 610 million shares are worth about $1.7 billion and it owes bondholders about $27 billion.
