I knew in someways it was a good news for you.

Not unless Magna goes ahead and buys Saturn. That would be amazing. In someways GM will still have Saturn.

If GM makes these small cars in US for markets around the world then I can see them being profitable. Previously the economy of scales did not work in GM's favor as the small cars it produced catered only to US market which was diminutive.

[source: Wall Street Journal] Geely No Longer Among Suitors for Saab By NORIHIKO SHIROUZU BEIJING--An investment group led by Chinese auto company Geely Holding is no longer a candidate to acquire General Motors Corp.'s Saab unit, according to two people familiar with the situation. GM has narrowed the field of potential buyers for Saab, and the group led by Geely Holding, the parent of one of China's biggest home-grown carmakers, is not among them, the people said. It wasn't immediately clear whether the Geely group withdrew, or was rejected by GM. A Saab spokesman confirmed the field has narrowed to "two or three" candidates. He declined to identify them. The group led by Geely, based in the eastern Chinese city of Hangzhou, is still believed to be in the hunt for Ford Motor Co.'s Volvo unit, also based in Sweden. Geely Chairman Li Shufu wasn't immediately available Friday for comment. The Wall Street Journal reported in early May, citing people familiar with the situation, that Geely Automobile Holdings Ltd., Geely Holding's Hong Kong-listed unit, had submitted a bid for Saab, an assertion that Geely Automobile later denied. Since then, other knowledgeable people have indicated that the Saab and Volvo bids came from a group led by Geely Holding and Mr. Li, who heads both the parent and subsidiary companies. Before submitting a bid for Saab in April, the Geely group had expressed interest in buying Volvo, for which it has also submitted a bid. A Ford spokesman didn't immediately respond to a request for comment. On Friday, Saab won more time to pursue a likely sale and avoid bankruptcy after a local Swedish court granted an extension to the struggling company's creditor protection period. The Saab spokesman said the Vanersborg district court's ruling means the GM unit can continue its restructuring of Saab until Aug. 20, after which a new extension would need to be sought. He said GM still plans to pick by the end of June the "final candidate" from the field of "two or three" potential investors that remain in the process. "We will pick the finalist soon," the Saab spokesman said in a telephone interview. Saab went into creditor protection on Feb. 20 in an effort by GM to spin off or sell the unit. Saab officials, who have described the court-managed reconstruction as "the most comprehensive" ever done in Sweden, earlier this month confirmed that as many as three bidders remain in the sales process that began with 27 prospective buyers. Geely has said it is interested in using international acquisitions to gain access to technologies and sales networks, and to circumvent trade barriers it might otherwise face as a Chinese auto maker.

Would a modern day news article exist without adding qualifiers and author's opinion?

[source: Motor Authority] Ferrari patent for turbocharged V8 surfaces online Earlier this week we saw leaked Ferrari patents for a new AWD hybrid system that were filed with the European Patent Office. Today, a new patent diagram for a turbocharged powerplant from the Italian carmaker has surfaced online, confirming that Ferrari is at least considering adopting more efficient technologies for its future models. The image above shows the patent in all its glory, and according to Autocar other documents revealed a layout diagram for a turbocharged internal-combustion engine in a "V arrangement". While this could possibly be referring to a six-cylinder unit, the patent diagrams clearly shows a V8 engine - although we wouldn't consider this a death knell for a possible turbocharged V6 unit. Rather than a large single turbo, the engine in the patent goes the BMW-route of two smaller turbochargers in order to reduce lag and provide an even power band. With the extra power from forced induction, the general idea behind the switch to turbo power will be to reduce displacement size and fuel usage while keeping power levels up - a strategy that has been successful for high-volume carmakers such as Volkswagen and to a lesser extent BMW. While it may be strange to be reading about Ferraris with hybrid engines and turbochargers, the Prancing Horse was never going to be completely immune to the conditions of its time, and other supercar manufacturers will likely be following in Ferrari's wake in the near future. Furthermore, one of Ferrari's most admired cars, the legendary F40, was powered by a twin-turbocharged V6 developing up to 471hp (352kW) from its 3.0L of displacement.

[source: Motor Authority] GM engineer drops Corvette ZR1 supercharged LS9 into '69 Chevrolet Camaro For many auto enthusiasts, the golden age of automotive styling was during 1960s, when designers had virtual free reign on their designs and didn't have to worry about aerodynamics, pedestrian crumple zones and other such ‘nuisances’. At the same time, the ‘60s could hardly be called the high point of automotive technology, and the development of engines, brakes, suspension components and transmissions still had a long way to go. Fast forward to 2009, and legendary GM engineer and pro-touring car builder Mark Stielow appears to have created the perfect marriage of automotive styling and technology - and by this we mean a 1969 Butternut Yellow Chevrolet Camaro with GM's insane LS9 V8 dropped into its engine bay. For the uninitiated, the LS9 supercharged V8 is the most powerful production engine GM has ever made, with a mind-numbing 638hp (476kW) and 604lb-ft (819Nm) of torque on tap. It currently resides in the mighty Corvette ZR1 supercar and is available as a standalone crate engine for $21,000. Named 'The Jackass', Stielow’s LS9-powered Camaro also takes the same wheels and super wide sport tires from the ZR1 to help transmit all that power to the road. The only issue that could crop up from this is trying to stop the car at 180mph with the stock Camaro brakes, but luckily these have also been replaced with the same carbon-ceramic units found in the ZR1. A quick chassis dyno reveals that the car makes around 511hp (381kW) at its rear wheels, transmitted through a Tremec T56 6-speed transmission borrowed from the Dodge Viper. With all that power, we can expect lightning fast acceleration although no performance figures have been released. As for the price of all those tantalizing mods, Stielow revealed to Edmunds that it’s actually cheaper to buy the Corvette ZR1 – but who could say no to an LS9-powered 1969 Camaro if money was no option?

[source: Motor Authority] Bob Lutz: GM won't abandon sports cars, pickups and SUVs General Motors' vice-chairman Bob Lutz has revealed what the future holds for the struggling carmaker, reassuring the press that despite an impending bankruptcy the firm will emerge as a "powerhouse" in the auto industry and that it will still produce the types of vehicles that are largely blamed for getting it into the situation it finds itself in today - sports cars, SUVs and pickup trucks. There will be dramatic changes, however, including a much greater focus on hybrid and electric vehicles, as well as more conventional cars. But GM's affordable performance heritage and the pickup trucks and SUVs that once made it the biggest carmaker in the world won't be forgotten. With a bankruptcy filing looming closer, Lutz explained to Automotive News that a "smaller but leaner" GM would be able to sell cars in the complete automotive rainbow - from high-powered sports cars to small hybrids. In the past, he has admitted that GM vehicles could be unremarkable and suffering from "mediocrity", but the future he promises will be very different. The embrace of hybrid technology is different from the Lutz we knew of old, who at one point called climate change a "theory". However, it seems as though the reality of the situation has finally hit home for GM. Lutz has even become a champion of President Barack Obama's auto industry task force, which is overseeing the restructuring of GM. He revealed that the task force should become a permanent fixture in the auto industry to promote a dialogue between companies and government. Lutz is well known for his Republican stance and his initial hesitation about government regulation of the auto industry, but he says he had a change of heart when he recognized that even members of the auto industry task force could be fans of cars - most notably when some of the members were keen to find out the release date and cost of the upcoming Cadillac CTS Coupe. Despite all his posturing about the changes and future success of GM, Lutz won't be around to actually play a direct role anymore as he's set to retire at the end of the year. His replacement has been named as Thomas G. Stephens, who will report to GM CEO Fritz Henderson.

This is gorgeous 1948 Chevy Pickup

How about this? Chevy Pickup
-
Yes as far as I know. We need it to be confirmed from Mr. Autobible- Balthy.

Those were ultra rare. Possibly GM made not more than 2K of those during the production runs.

GMPPD - 6.2 LS3, Tremec 6-speed, and throw the 2.8 to the dogs and we have a deal.
