  1. I heard from my brother via a ham radio operator. He and his wife are alive and safe. I'm very thankful. Thank you all for your concern. :)
  2. A search of Google News shows that several countries have been offering help. Quite a few large corporations are as well- including the one I work for: offering matching money up to a Million dollars and paying the admin costs (so that all of the money goes to aid) As for aid from stars- give them a bit more than 48 hours to get something together...
  3. My brother lives in Bay St. Louis. I spoke with him on Sunday and he wasn't evacuating. I haven't heard from him since.
  4. It's certainly stealing Aston proportions Put a Lincoln grill on it, give it regular suicide doors and stand back....
  5. They usually rotate the collection fairly slowly, since the first floor is a collections of natural settings showcasing different era's of the car. The second floor is rotated faster, with the featured shows like "Cars of the Heads of State" But it's always worth a trip..

    Ages?

That was the year GM downsized the big sedans/ I remember my mother complaining that they were so small
  7. That's true for me- the last time I even lookedin the trunk of my car was to get the spare out when I had a flat. I looked at the MR2 at the Auto show last year, and the friend I went with mentioned the lack of luggage space- he said "but what if you wanted to go away for the weekend with your boyfriend?" I had to say, when was the last time I either had a boyfriend or went away for the weekend? Besides, anyplace I'd want to go would involve a backpack wiith an extra pair of shorts, a t-shirt and swim trunks. For me, the whole point of this car (besides being fun to drive) is that it says "No, I don't shop at CostCo and I can't take you to the airport.."
  8. Benz R-Class Rocks with Stones They're the rockers that got their fame in the Sixties and now are firmly in their sixties; it's the big crossover with a certain star quality. Together they're heading out on tour in the fall, one to support a new album and an ever-shorter retirement, the other to celebrate its U.S. market launch. The Mercedes-BenzR-class wagon is hitting the road with the Rolling Stones on this fall's stadium outing for their new album A Bigger Bang.
  9. The LA retiming was not the first choice for them. They resisted doing it for years. They finally moved it when it became crystal clear that they were always going to be second to NAIAS (actually, because of their refusal to move the show away from competing with Detroit, they were a distant third behind Chicago: always getting last the last years NAIAS's concepts and a couple of debuts). I think they are hoping this will change, but Detroit is always going to be the 800 lb gorilla, even if everyone bitches that Cobo Hall is too old and Detroit is too cold. Actually, there's a new project breaking ground in September downtown that will address one of the biggest problems the Convention Center seems to think it faces- the lack of a convenient hotel- the closest one is the Hotel Figueroa, which while cool and funky, isn't the place that's going to immediatly come to mind for the business traveller, and the Bonaventure is over a mile away.
  10. well, as far as FWD versus RWD, I'm afraid that you'll have to build RWD if only to appease the automotive press. They are convinced (even though they are about as close to the average driver as Paris Hilton is to the average American) that FWD is the kiss of death: apparently the din of these people is enough to drown out the fact that for most people, their car could be run by voodoo and they wouldn't care if it got them from point A to point B with some alacrity in most weather conditions. As for anything else, my dear intern, here's what I care about. I'd like the interior to look nice, and have some soft-touch surfaces. I would like those surfaces not to disintigrate in a year, like the ones on my friends VW- just make your plastics look not so obviously plastic. I'd like a decent ride, decent handling, and decent gas mileage. Unlike most European cars, I'd not like to find that this is accomplished by having $200 tune-ups and $500 dollar tires. Immediately cancel focus groups. Focus groups come up with the remake of "The Stepford Wives" Focus groups came up with the last Impala. Even the worst of the Bangle'd BMW's were more interesting than the last Impala. In short, Hire me.
  11. I didn't realise that he'd actually left the site- I thought he'd just gotten bumped like everybody else and hadn't signed back on yet. It's too bad.
  12. Still tmp. Glad to see this is back- I was actually getting work done :-(
