  1. LOL. Even the hippie-granola-hump a tree brand can build the RWD car that GM has been promising us for 10 years.
  2. I think Camaro will sell for a number of reasons 1) pent up demand 2) more options than a V8 will be available 3) people like me who don't give 2 $h!s about the price of gas 4) the Camaro weathered the first gas crisis just fine. Apparently because GME says so. ** The biggest problem with GM right now is the marketing. The consumer needs to be informed and they need to be BLITZED fast. We need people to CHOOSE GM and I'm not sure if that's going to happen.
  3. I agree... It's not about limiting choice, it's about supply and demand. Why shouldn't GM continue to offer the Suburban? It'll always have buyers. However, since the demand for small cars has ratcheted up, shift supply to that segment. Build 1,000 Cobalts to every 1 Suburban but do not alienate customers. (And Suburban customers are typically some of the most loyal in the business)
  4. We must be in the minority here.. It really surprises me how oblivious most people (and posters here) are to trucks being USED and how they can/can't be used.
  5. I really bit into the whole plant thing hook, line and sinker. But technically, isn't GM just slowing ONE plant (the truck plant) as plant #2 was for the already doomed 360s and plants #3 & 4 were "medium duty truck plants" that make the truck line GM sold off a while back?
  6. And therein lies the problem with GMs offerings... That "yes, but" mentality keeps a lot of butts out of GM seats.
  7. I have a feeling GM will be bankrupt within 2 years.
  8. More ignorant decisions... The H4 was a HUGE hit and GM has spent tons of money making Hummer into what it is. There is absolutely NO reason why the division couldn't be refocused with products like the H4. But, of course, I always thought that idea/market/concept was too innovative and forward thinking for GM to ever actually follow through with it.
  9. I disagree entirely... This lifestyle isn't going to die with that generation. I'll be buying a truck someday for my towing needs. Not all of us stay 3 blocks from our house in the city.
  10. But here's the problem... The only reason Hummer even made news is because GM has the option to sell it. Basically, by putting the word out, GM is 'shopping' for offers. So who says GM won't sell Hummer AND starve divisions that it can't 'sell'
  11. AND more efficient large vehicles... Some day (soon) the technology will exist to allow our choices to be wider again -- Just like in the 80s)
  12. Every american company/division has a stigma ATTACHED to it by the media/pop culture. The ignorance of the american public is no reason to abandon the division. The Hummer stigma is along the same lines as the other constant, blatant stereotyping with every GM division. (EX: Cadillac is for black people... Buick is for old people... Pontiac is for rednecks, etc.)
  13. Many things contributed to this... 1) The bottom falling out of trucks. 2) GM being ever so slow to market with cars. 3) GMs failure to inform the consumer of it even offering competitive cars. 4) The media attacks are now coming home to roost. 5) The continued myth and belief that Toyota and Honda offer the ONLY fuel efficient cars in america. Etc.. Etc... Well, I guess the ride has been fun guys; it's all over but the death blow now. GM has fought a very good battle, but simple fate and the consumer refuse to let the company live.
  14. Like I said.. GM is a charity now. They'll be milked dry by other LESSER companies and by the UAW. I'd expect bankruptcy before the leaders of GME even have a chance to run the company into the ground.
  15. I've always heard that this doesn't save any fuel since it takes more fuel to 'start up' than idle.
  16. So THOSE are the glasses they give you import people to put on when you purchase. LOL, J/K Nices shots! My favorites are probably the plants.
  17. It has that nice, corporate "stump jumper" look of the current Cobalt. Yay!
  18. I'd LOVE to see a Mini fighter(s) in the Pontiac showroom. I think most here are just opposed to a re-badged Aveo. But if this is indeed the 'next generation' that has been moved up, then there is no reason why it shouldn't be a re-badged Aveo unless GM is just lazy.
  19. And why would that ever happen? Supply? Not yet... Prices are up because of speculation and the tanking dollar. Other countries? What, the same countries that buy their oil in american currency and thus will feel the same effects as us, except probably worse. Oil companies? They'll be taken down, soon enough. Our economy? Our economy will collapse LOOONG before $6-$7 per gallon.
  20. And that one sentence sums up your thoughts on the division, as well as explaining why YOU think it should be phased out. Bias; isn't it a wonderful thing?
  21. Nah... Hopefully we'll do like we used to do and innovate our way out of it. (Alternative fuels, etc.) I must say though, I've warmed up to the idea of this. As long as it's a bit sporty, it's not a complete clone of the Aveo and I can still have my G8 in the showroom, why not? It might just be moves like this that will save Pontiac.
  22. I am hopeful of this... As long as I can still buy a G8 in the same showroom. (For more than 2 years.)
  23. H4. Like I said, Hummer needs product. I'm willing to bet that Land Rovers keep selling.
  24. GM also threw money at FWD cars that entire time and we see how well that worked. Besides, I've never asserted that the FWD programs at GM should suffer. Hell, they need to pull the volume and pay the bills so people like me can have the choice of RWD. GM will throw ALL of it's money into FWD vehicles in the coming years and I'll bet you my left arm that their impact on that market will be minimal at best. It'll be the story of VW all over again. Lots of cool and nice cars that nobody outside of a niche of buyers even considers. Malibu is one awesome car and I love every one that I see, but how seriously is it impacting the segment? Not very, if you looks at the numbers.
