2. Two main things to consider with suicide. 1) Someone who is actually going to commit suicide has made a LOGICAL decision that killing his or herself is the only way out of the situation. That usually means that there will not be a 'cry for help' if the person is serious about doing it. Thank god this guy was clear headed enough (although I'm sure the pills were clouding his judgment and probably contributed a lot to his negative actions) to email you, and thank god you cared enough to do something about it. (Because a lot of people would not) 2) First suicide attempts are usually unsuccessful. Second suicide attempts are what you REALLY have to be careful with. Once the person has 'attempted' to take their life the first time and lived through the trauma (and sometimes humiliation) they're not as afraid to do it again and if they go back to the same terrible state of mind that they were suffering in the first place, chances are that they will LOGICALLY decide to attempt again (logically to them, not us). This guy needs to be watched very carefully. I don't think he was 100% serious about killing himself, BUT I do think the thought was firmly in his head. I've definitely thought about it, and at one point I got pretty reckless with it too. It's so INCREDIBLY sad to feel that alone and hopeless and its something I never want to live through again. My heart really goes out to people who sincerely believe this is a LOGICAL conclusion to a blessed life (No matter how much life sucks, it's still a blessing in so many ways) Luckily, I'm such an angry bastard that I feel like suicide is 'the weak way out' and am too proud to disgrace myself that way.
3. I meant no offense to anyone... It just seems that things are posted here A LOT later than other sites.
4. The 14 hour issue was AT&Ts fault. They had hard coded our previous address into their system and Apples order screen would let us reserve the phones, but not check out without sending them to the previous address. After talking to Apple and getting an "I have no idea" answer, we called the bank and made sure things were straight there. Then it was off to Apple again; twice, where one skilled associate knew what the problem was and promptly sent us to an AT&T rep that could help. When we received the phones, my fiances activated with no problem but mine wouldn't activate for ANYTHING. We headed to the Apple store (we have friends who work there, and we were going to go buy new cases anyway) and after 5 hours of consulting with the Geniuses and an AT&T rep and switching out phones, sim cards and basically doing a rain dance (where one phone worked, the other pone worked, one phones number was ringing the other phone, neither phone worked, etc.) we were told that AT&T was experiencing a backlog and because we pre-ordered instead of purchasing at the store, we were at the end of the line (which in itself is bull$h!, but whatever). The next MORNING I wake up to find that my 3G is re-activated and my 4S is still null. So, we head to the AT&T store where a rep *finally* figures out that something else was hard coded into our plan that was not allowing us to activate both lines.... FINALLY, my 4S worked.
5. Newspapers will still exist, but it'll be on a community level. And that's where thy need o 'seize the day' and establish themselves before it's too late. In today's media oligopoly, it is exceptionally hard to find local news and I (and most others IMO) would MUCH rather read about things that directly affect us as opposed to who Charlie Sheen is f*****g this week.
6. Who needs a Holdrolet Cruze when you can have this?
7. That car is WAYYYY to solid to bury in the sand and forget about.... Sad.
8. Because 1) GM has lost a lot of fans 2) Because the industry is nowhere NEAR as exciting as it was even 2 years ago 3) Because forums aren't the only form of social media anymore 4) Because the insiders are gone AND MOST IMPORTANTLY 5) because there is hardly any news ever posted here.... I do know one thing; with CZ28 being bought out and GMI transitioning to their TERRIBLE new software, Cheers and Gears is better positioned for a comeback now than ever! Drew could REALLY seize the day and offer a 'home grown' board for discussion. The layout here is FANTASTIC, all the site needs is content.
9. Favorite MDM band (and a great song to drive to): Will also probably be kicking some asphalt to this latest MetallicA demo release: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_MRibTPFXw&feature=youtube_gdata_player
10. Being a HUGE thrash metal fan, I certainly think the 80s was the best decade of music, followed closely by the early to mid 90s blues rock stuff... I usually drive to thrash, melodic death metal, industrial metal, alternative metal -OR- fast paced BLUEGRASS... As a kid, my parents would always (we still do to this day) take me on 'local road trips' around the back roads of our beloved mountains... There's just something about cruising through the mountains with the windows/top down and the bluegrass cranked. It takes me to a different time and better place.
11. I agree with this a lot... I CONSTANTLY get the "why are you so pessimistic?" question... But to me, positivity is less the 'shiny, happy' vibe and more the 'endurance and tenacity' vibe. Knowing that you've been through 3 major heart surgeries and you're still here kicking ass on the daily; THAT's positivity!!!
12. I do the same thing.... Hell, it took me 10 years to finish a double major. But, life doesn't always go like a well planned, financial bliss (despite what most conservatives tell you) and I had to basically go part or even 1/4 time for a while to make ends meet. But honestly... I look at it this way: As much as my OB-freakin'-SESSIVE INFJ personality pushes me to plan, plan PLAN! everything, I wouldn't change a damn thing about my life. I've had a fantastic run so far, and I'd say I actually reached that point of 'mortality' a few years ago where I thought: "If I died right now, I'd be a happy man." as opposed to how I used to feel which was more: "You need to be at this point in the plan by this time, or you're failing." and I'd much rather EARN and appreciate the things I have than be handed stuff left and right. I'm a pretty extreme personality and I've learned to accept that by practicing and preaching 'balance'. For all the negative energy that I crave, I MUST supplement that with positive energy; and it took me a while to accept that positive energy, and that displaying positivity is a GREAT thing (after going through a lot of bull$h! in life, it was VERY hard for me to be positive and still is at times) So, for example, when I'm feeling depressed, I'll go take some pictures and just 'take in' the gift that is life... That way, the smallest thing, like a sunset or flower neutralizes my negativity. We are SO incredibly gifted a lot of times and tend to take that for granted (I know I certainly do). I think this is probably my favorite.
13. Good call!!! I'll add the HHR SS turbo too
14. One of the most ignorant things I've ever seen. And it wasn't even a ratted out car either... Solid and nice. Just shows you how DUMB most dealers are
15. Ah, yes... The 'district car'. That car is quite the story.... We received that one the same time we received two concours GSXs that were national award winners. (One in Saturn Yellow and the other in Apollo White) The Saturn Yellow one sold... No dice on the white one yet.
16. My decision: 1) Boss 429... I'm a GM man through and through, but this car is on my 'ultimates' list. 2) GTO... Awesome car, but '65 isn't my favorite year. 3) GTX... Not really a Belvedere fan, but you GOTTA love that interior and Hemi!
17. http://www.rkmotorscharlotte.com/inventory/1965-Pontiac-GTO/132701 1 of 1 Tiger Gold, fully documented '65 Tri-power GTO http://www.rkmotorscharlotte.com/inventory/1967-Plymouth-Belvedere-GTX/132610 1 of 7 426 Hemi Belvedere GTX convertible http://www.rkmotorscharlotte.com/inventory/1969-Ford-Mustang-Boss-429/132700 '69 Boss 429 I know which one I'd pick!
18. True that... You can't really rely on the police to do anything these days (unless it's harassing people they don't like) I don't understand why the 'veteran' is still sitting there... Why not leave? Obviously Mitsu punk didn't have video of him actually vandalizing the car... If you get broken into in Charlotte, they don't even come out. The whole report is filed over the phone.
19. +1 It is kind of sad that the Navy vet didn't whip that mouthy little bastages ass... I hate asian cars, but NO WAY would I ever vandalize someones property... That's some BS. They've actually had problems with this at Auto Fair here in Charlotte too; kids sneaking in spray paint and vandalizing cars. I'd hate to see what I'd do to a grown man if he screwed with my car, much less some little brat.
20. Lets see.... Major events this year.... May 24th I proposed to my girlfriend of many years. In typical FOG fashion, it was VERY planned, pretty damn epic and even though I'm not the most romantic person in the world (I'm sure that's a shocker to you all) it was pretty damn sweet. June -- Literally weeks away from giving up on our job searches and moving back home, I finally landed (after 2 years applying everywhere) a salaried job with an office and full benefits. Just so happens, that job is in the classic car industry and has the potential to open A LOT of doors for me. At the same time (after a year of searching) my fiance finally landed an architecture internship and we became 'grown ups with real jobs' One month after I started my new job, I was able to invest significant money into my classic cars for the first time in MANY years. I hope to have them completely back on the road by next spring. One month after getting the jobs we completely uprooted from the neighborhood we loved and house we HATED to move to another house that we now hate equally as bad. Right now I'm shopping used GTOs for a possible purchase. My family continues to have the same terrible luck that plagues me on and off. This year we gave away all three of our horses, and two of them and two of our dogs passed away/had to be put down within days of each other. * Despite the numerous changes 'for the better', I can't say that I like my life that much. I'm already seeing the negative affects of stress on my body and relationships and I can't seem to stop this never ending freight train of exhaustion. But there are certainly sweet highs that balance out al of the rock bottom lows.
21. I had the infamous battery life bug, but the update fixed that. Pretty much 50% of my apps are dysfunctional half the time. It gets SUPER confused transitioning from wireless networks to 3G It also gets confused multi-tasking with certain apps. Siri is half retarded at least half the time... Part of that is my southern accent, but part of it is the $h!ty AT&T network that I swore I wouldn't stick with but did. In fact, all my bugs could be AT&Ts fault (since they suck harder than a new Hoover in a dust bin) but for some reason I decided not to go back with VZW because I wanted to keep my grandfathered unlimited data (Not sure why I did that -- SWORE I was going to go back to VZW this time around) It was an incredible pain in the ass to get it activated (Spent 14 hours or so trying to pre-order. Then spent the first night at the Apple store trying to get it activated and despite knowing many of the geniuses had to make ANOTHER trip to the AT&T store the next day to activate... <--- Probably going to look hard at Droid next time.
22. F**k sushi wagons and the people who work on them.... (Sorry... I'm not too good at the love thing, but I got the hate thing down pat! )
23. iPhone 4S No where near as 'life changing' as my 3G was... And still all the bugs to boot. Not to mention, Siri sucks
