  5. They started hating Detroit a few years ago when the big whigs got in good with Toyota and got free Priuses for a year. That's how Toyota does all of their media 'conquests' They befriend them, then make the relationship reciprocal. Said 'conquest' then feels obligated to take up the cause. Just curious; did Detroit ever deny these people a manufacturing facility or something?
  6. Wouldn't Ford have 5? Which are also paired with other franchises, mostly GMC and Buick, so what would be the point? So... Saturn has an all new line up, yet Pontiac has a bunch of outdated cars and Chevrolet clones and sales are down roughly the same amount at each division?!?! Gee, that's a hard decision to make. But it's a logical decision and we all know that GM doesn't do too well with those. REPEAT AFTER ME: BLACK HOLE.... CUT THE LOSSES.... SEND ALL OF THE FUTURE SAAB PRODUCTS TO SATURN
  7. This is pretty status quo... From what I understand, GM regularly re-assesses the value of it's divisions. And you'd better believe they're probably running assessments on all of the brands except Chevrolet and Cadillac right now. Hell, they might even be assessing the viability of Cadillac. After all, it's not exactly a huge success. If I had to choose I'd eliminate divisions in this order: 1st Hummer 2nd Saab 3rd Saturn 4th Pontiac I guess the current idea is to have Chevrolet as the volume division, Buick/GMC as the mid level franchise and Cadillac as the global luxury player. I don't really see the point of Saturn being on that list since it is essentially Opel. But then again, Buick could easily BECOME Opel in the future. I really pray that GM isn't going to close any of it's equitable and historic divisions.
  8. Pretty much the whole country wants the industry to fail... I say, we give them what they want. 10% unemployment. 3.5 million without jobs. No manufacturing for defense. and BILLIONS in pension & re-education costs. Then we'll see if their opinion changes.

I can just see some smart ass congressman grilling them about why they think the companies should be saved if they're not even joining the grassroots efforts to save them. And BTW, f*ck Jason Vines.   18. Mini is not a rebel brand at all. Mini is a midlife crisis/yuppie brand. Hell, BMW is more of a rebel than Mini.

  20. Sounds like a bunch of hot air and bull$h! to me... It's all about keeping the elite, elite and the working man poor. Detroit does nothing for Washington, so Washington will not look out for its interests. In fact, Washington values the transplants more because of the $$$ they can bring to the pockets of the officials. This is america, without money or credit, you're S.O.L. Add to that the media tirade against Detroit (Just as I predicted, the media is influencing politicians when it should be the other way around) It's funny that they mention the size and scope of Citi as if GM doesn't enjoy that same status. And I also find it ironic that the reason given is that they're trying to preserve a place to put the cash at the expense of an industry that generates the cash in the first place. Go ahead and knock out the rest of the working class, Congress. Then see where your 'banks' stand then. It's a very simple concept, a country that doesn't make things and accumulate wealth by selling them will not build wealth or store wealth. Common sense 101, but I guess Congress' collective head is to far up it's own ass to see the light.

  22. And that's exactly what they want (or wanted) Politicians WANT you to be too busy to be active in politics. After all, one wrong vote by us and it could mean the end of their career, right?
  23. You're leaning to far into the facts and not enough into the market. We're talking about IMAGE, not specs. The Lexus ES isn't anymore classy than a Camry, yet it has a much better perceived image on the street. It's all about what the brand conveys. And we couldn't build a rebellious image around that?!?! Hell, Scion is the one brand on the market that targets 'rebels' now. I don't see monsters, heavy metals or demons in other car commercials.
