HONDA AND DRIVER...ER...CAR AND DRIVER MIDSIZE TEST Mar 08
A Horse With No Name replied to regfootball's topic in Chevrolet
As an off topic aside, I wonder why Chrysler didn't build an SRT-4 Avenger instead of an SRT-4 Caliber. That would have made a much cooler car. While I am no fan of the Avenger I would chose it over the Hyundai, the Nissan, Camry, and perhaps a few other cars in the test. I did like how they (C+D) indicated that their avenger had fewer rattles than the Camry. As another off topic aside those Baloney Sandwiches they talked about in the article are local legend here in central Ohio. One of our other great places to eat is the thurman Cafe, recently rated as one of the ten best hamburgers in the US. Chris -
HONDA AND DRIVER...ER...CAR AND DRIVER MIDSIZE TEST Mar 08

+1 on Altima over rated. Atima coupe is ugly. I saw one at the dealership when my son and I were looking at a used Mustang. At $26,000+ it was ten grand more than a Scion TC and argueably less car. Chris -
Early Reactions Sour on Design of New Honda Pilot

I beg to differ. One wants to slit ones wrists merely looking at the Sienna...driving it is an extra complication. Chris -
A V-8 for sure, but GM could make some serious coin by dialing in the V-6 right. I love the new Mustang but the 4.0 Ford just doesn't cut it. I think someone in another thread said something about the power of a four and the fuel economy of a V-8 and they were not far off. Since most of the people that buy Mustangs are your typical secretary type or older men or who knows, people who do settle for a V-6 for whatever reason... It only stands to reason that having the V-6 really dialed in as far as NVH and so forth is of utter importance. Also, Ford toyed around with having a handeling package for V-6 Mustangs but abandoned the idea. I'd love something about as stiff as the old F-41 Suspension in the old Chevelle SS cars or the suspension in a 70's Cutlass-just a little bit firm-combined with a car that actually liked to turn. That and Hugger Orange paint. Chris

POR 15 is the E-ticket for the shadow. BTW, around here scrap prices are about $250-$300 for a car that size. At the scrap yard the other day they paid out $245 for an Escourt. Chris

Why the hell are they only recalling cars in cold states? I live in Ohio and people move here from Arizona, California, Texas and Georgia all of the time. This is a very serious safety related issue. What happens when a relocated car has the wires corrode and has an airbag problem because of the safety seat sensor? Makes no sense to me. And yes, Honda and Mazda have just as many problems as the domestics...as far as cost cutting goes it's going to happen on any sub-25K car. Chris

How do you define manhood?
A Horse With No Name replied to A Horse With No Name's topic in The Lounge
Interesting discussion guys, THANKS! Chris -
Question for C&Gers. How do you personally define being a man? Just read an interesting book about boys which had as a Thesis that boys today lack positive male role models and have trouble defining what it means to be a man. The book got me thinking. So: How do you define being a man? To our younger members-do you find a lack of older men that you look up to? Do you agree or disagree with the idea that there are few positive male role models? Do you think todays definition of manhood is different than your fathers? To our gay members-a serious question-how do young gay teens/young gay adults adjust to manhood? Do you think manhood is defined differently (other than sexual choice) for gays and non gays? To our older members-do you think that young men today have a harder time defining "manhood" than when you grew up? Any feedback-thoughts would be highly sought after. THANKS! Chris

Damn you both to the land of eternal internal combustion! Here I was, minding my own little buisiness, trying to forget about old school muscle and enjoy dreaming about a nice little fuel efficient modern car like a Sky Redline or a MINI Cooper S and you guys had to post THIS! I'm in utter lust, and I probably won't sleep tonight after seeing the 70. Love the color! Who needs internet porn when we can look at cars like these? The Hurst is sad because it is just like my friend Jeremy's which was stolen and stripped by some low life...Damn I miss that car. I want my old Chevelle back...1970 was probably (along with 1959 and 1966) one of the best years for American cars. Chris

People laugh at 80's and 90's cars but the Cutlass Ragtop Oldsmoboi mentioned and the LH cars you mentioned are really great cars. The handeling of the LH in particular was just outstanding for a large FWD car. Loved my Concorde. Every so often I dream about still owning it and wake up and it's gone, just like the Cutlass I dated my wife in 20+ years ago. Would love to have both back. Chris

Cars nobody in ther right mind wants
A Horse With No Name replied to A Horse With No Name's topic in The Lounge
Don't laugh too hard, but I almost bought a SVO Mustang as a father son project...then almost bought another one because it was sage green and an 86 only colorwhich they only built about a dozen or so of and I love green cars. Before you laugh too hard I also almost bought a pristine (one owner 9,000 mile) Cosworth Vega. You could shave with the shine in the paint. Alas, common sense took over at the last minute... Now if I could just talk myself out of buying that ratty Alfa ragtop sitting outside my friend's body shop. Chris -

I've often felt like if we got all of the C&G family together the parking lot would look like a southern Alabama Wal-Mart. But everyone here loves ther rides, which is what's important, right? Chris -
For Those of You Who are a Little Religious..
A Horse With No Name replied to NOS2006's topic in The Lounge
I'll have my wife and mother pray for you your family, as well as my teenaged daughter. Sorry to hear about that! Chris -
Oh, yeah, and my sympathy on the shadow. It is a shame to loose any car that you love. At lest you still have the Prisom. Chris

Damn fine pics, DF! Believe it or not, I almost bought the sister to your B5 blue 69 when I bought my 66 Mustang Fastback. The 69 was blue like yours and it was a rare factory 383 4 speed car. I didn't buy the Cuda because with the big block you could only get manual steering and I knew my wife would hate driving it. I could have bought that car back in 93-94 for $4500, which is what I paid for the Mustang. Also turned down a 69 Camaro SS to buy the mustang that was (cha-ching) also $4500. What the three of them would be worth today boggles the mind. Hindsight is always 20-20. The orange 70 reminds me of a friends 70 AAR that he keeps waiting to restore. Chris

Hated the edge when it came out but it is growing on me. It's built in Buffalo, NY right up the road from where my inlaws live. Chris -
...don't really think I'll miss them. Chris

I take it you won't be voting "democrat" in November then... Chris

What are some cars of the last 25-30 years that nobody in their right mind wants, but were unique-special-a creative half assed attempt for their time? Or are way over rated by their fan base? Triumph TR-7 3rd gen Mazda RX-7 (first two gen's were cool but third gen cars are fragile on a good day) Sterling Anything built by the French Anything built by the Koreans Damn near anything built by Fiat All of the itinerations of the GTI Volkswagen between the first gen and current gen (first and current gen are decent cars, but what came in between is about like a cow patty sandwich) Porsche 924 Porsche 914 1980-81 Turbo Trans Am Firebird Delorean Chryler Lebaron Convertible (I know a guy who restores them, they were basically worthless new) What am I missing here? What else should be on the list? Chris

Eliminating exotics like the Ferrari Enzo and our favorite muscle cars (Camaro, Firebird, Challenger, Vette, Viper, GTO, et al) as well as trucks and SUV's (Cyclone, Wrangler 4 door etc.) what cars of the last ten or 15 years do you consider creative and unique? My list Miata (I like the first two generations better than the current gen, but the current gen is still a fine car) CTS (Current and previous generation) RX-8 (Rotary power) Audi TT (the first gen had better styling I thought) Solstice Sky Boxter perhaps? (mid-motor) Malibu Maxx (streched family sedan, a good idea I thought) Volvo C-30 (cool rebirth of a neo sports car from Volvo, really kind of like the interior, seems very "Scandanavian in design somehow) Buick Reatta (a little old for the list but one of the guys at work has one and its wayy cool) Mini Cooper S Cadillac Allante What obvious cars am I missing?
